Whose your local band?

Random late night drunken video conversations has prompted this thread.

Who is the most famous local band/artist from the area where you live?

If they have the same local postcode starting letters then they count as your local band.

For example as a Leeds lad in the LS postcode, the best artists my city has produced are:

Chumbawumba, Kaiser Chiefs, Pigeon Detectives, Mik Artistik and a Spice Girl.

Can you guys do better?

I’m from Birmingham so there’s quite a bit to choose from.

Jeff Lynne (ELO) is from the same part of Brum as me (Shard End).

Ocean Colour Scene were the big local heroes as I was growing up in the 90’s and theirs was the first gig I went to aged 14.

One of the Taylors from Duran Duran lived in the same street as my Nan.

The biggest local band would be The Beatles, but there are loads more: The La's, Echo and the Bunnymen, Elvis Costello, The Farm, The Lightening Seeds, Dead or Alive, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Teardrop Explodes and more.

Then you have others like Cast, The Zutons, Circa Waves, The Wombats, Miles Kane etc. And new ones coming through like The Mysterines and Red Rum Club.

Spoilt for musical choice!

    • I would be surprised if they don't, given 2022 was the twentieth I imagine next year is going to be pushed as the 25th anniversary so having the most local big name artist possible headline seems natural. Maybe SFA are being saved for then too?
    • I’d be incredibly surprised if she was in the headline conversation at all. At best I could say a high Pyramid slot but I reckon maybe Other headliner against a rock act like Fender or even Other sub (where I have her in my predictions). I’d say Gracie Abrams is pulling similar if not better numbers to Tate and she was third down on the Other last year.
    • I dont think headliner. Other stage maybe
    • Sophie Williams (journalist and Mercury Prize judge) was on Huw Stephens' roundtable last week, said she'd love to see Overmono headline Green Man. Does feel like it's bound to happen. 2027 is surely on the cards seeing as they're about to release a new album
    • Cat Power Wilco Whatever combination of Avalon Emerson and Aldous I manage to see Ken Pomeroy Sparks with an honourable mention to Neve Cariad
