Just had a thought - reckon Greta will be this years pyramid speaker? Following David, Jez. Dalai Lama etc..

Could definitely see it happening.

Well the Guardian guide had her down to do a Q&A on the Thursday in William's Green so I'm assuming she was at least in talks about doing something this year.

Yup - I think now if she was doing a Q&A somewhere the crowds would be too big. I think she’s a pyramid necessity now!

I've been thinking this a while, but I agree with Lawn - depends what her schedule is. I don't see her coming to the UK specifically for Glastonbury. If she's in the area over June then I think it's a a strong possibility. Does anyone know what her views are of festivals? She may well be against them for all the emissions for all I know.

If The 1975, I could absolutely see them looking to bring her on stage.

I think she’d look at Glastonbury and it’s people as contributing to the worlds problems, rather than people who will help save it.

Lets face it, the most environmentally friendly way to do Glastonbury is not to do it at all.

People travelling from all over the country, some cases the world, consuming, making waste, watching acts that have flown in on aeroplanes with their bands and equipment on stages that have been setup for 3 days only before being transported away again.

Personally, it’s given me mindfulness and awareness as I’ve grown up and I think I’m more environmentally aware because of it. But you can’t deny it’s carbon footprint must be huge!

The festivals carbon footprint is an interesting area for study. When I was studying Environmental Protection at uni I did a paper on how it could be accurately measured. I was looking at it holistically taking into account what the footprint of attendees would be if they stayed at home. Then you have the mitigation the festival does like carbon offsetting. I never took it further as it was mainly a thought exercise for a seminar and my real interest was in water quality and legislation.

However far you studied it, you must have concluded it was not carbon positive though.

They use bio and have some solar etc but theres no way we’d have the same or less effect if all 205000 stayed home that week!
