Headliners 2023

It does sound reasonable - and for reasons I can't quite articulate I do think that going Glastonbury > Belgium is far more likely than the other way around would have been (when people were talking about him playing Sunday).

I *think* all the gear for all the Pyramid acts the following day is loaded the night before and stacked ready in order. So load in for Pyramid at Glasto if playing at any point on the Sunday is sometime between 0200-0800 on Sunday morning. Whereas load-in for an arena gig is going to be more flexible and probably in normal working hours.

Did the AM source specifically say headlining or just that they were there on the Fri? I know it’s a stretch but there’s the vague possibility of the opening Other slot.

I'm no AM fan, quite the opposite, but they have songs with over a billion plays on Youtube... I'd be surprised if they opened the Other.

Also lots of artists have effectively 2 sets if they are elaborate and so he may have spares that can be used for Glastonbury and still get stuff to Belgium. Nothing against AM at all but would be kind of fun if they ended up not headlining as they seem to have been a banker in most peoples minds for so long.

ok so I know AM are strongly suggested for Fri .... what if this was actually sat ( 2 consecutive nights I know ) and we had harry fri , AM sat and Elton sunday ...... They were the 3 acts that were suggested to me a while back and this would be the only way they would fit .... prepares to hide ...

I mean, *if* AM are playing, it's because they have a previously unknown relationship for the festival and are doing it at a discount rate. And if that relationship exists it's therefore possible they're doing some sort of secret set or such. Seems vanishingly unlikely though.

im actually quite liking a few ideas being thrown around ... ok some are unlikely but its definately more fun than the GNR , AM , ELTON locked in discussion ... we also know from recently that things can change even if they look confirmed ... see legends thread for that

Okay prefacing this with the fact that I’m not remotely in the know, and the person who forwarded it to me isn’t either. But on November 24th I was forwarded a message from my friends sister (so it is is VERY heard it through the grapevine, which is why I disregarded it mostly at the time as speculative) saying ‘my music industry sources have been talking, Glastonbury headliners - Harry Styles, Elton John and Arctic Monkeys’)

who knows how much truth in it, but was a couple of weeks before the Elton announcement (obv his hat was always in the ring) but given others have been hearing Harry, it seems pertinent to mention.

(I disregarded it even further when Elton was Sunday as HS can’t do Saturday and I thought Arctics were nailed on for Friday, but if they aren’t…)

Are you seriously suggesting a band that have headlined twice don’t have a relationship with the festival, or it’s some kind of secret? 😂

Well that fits with what I heard … and around the same time …. Posted above and posted at that time also …. Hmm 🤔

If they were desperately scrambling for headliners moving AM to Saturday and HS breaking his normal gig rules to go from UK to Belgium isn't exactly a mad leap is it?

Not sure they’d be scrabbling at this stage but yeah I agree it’s not a mad leap

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
    • Beartooth? Or are they a bit to shouty shouty
