Wasn't what little evidence we had on Strokes playing just pointing to the Strokes being there rather than Pyramid headliner.

there's been some geezer post to say he's heard they're headlining, but other than that it's just been Gucci hyping them up.

And there's been others post that they've heard Madge is headlining, and AMs, and I think others too.

I think it’s a long shot for Glasto but there are rumours of Madge doing a world wide tour later this year and she’s currently recording new music apparently.

I still think the Strokes probably the most likely though and don’t think APE means that much.

Why is no one gossiping at the mo? Someone must know something, unless they haven’t secured anyone yet...

And the 2 Nick Grimshaw comments on R1. Those were what got people (few more than Gucci) really believing. Plus, they look a lot more likely than those other 2, they're active and in the area.

If anything the fact that The Strokes are going US-UK-US over the course of 2 weeks means the two week gap between Glastonbury and their first announced European date is inconsequential as they're clearly willing to travel over here for a one off gig.

If it’s worth their while, yes. As people are suggesting, them coming over for a low-paying, non-headline slot doesn’t seem like it would be when they’ve got a major fest headline slot in the bag.

Be reasonable here Neil. The Strokes have a headline rumour and a radio DJ mentioning them playing a couple of times. Arctic Monkeys have had a rumour but also been ruled out by the most trusted Arctic Monkeys source on the web, and Madonna the same but ruled out by Emily. The only people ruling the Strokes out are people in here saying they’re not big enough and it’ll be a massive headliner outta nowhere.

I’m quite open to it being someone else when tour plans for 2019 become clearer but they are the front runner based on the scant info alone.

I know the mood is still possibly otherwise but I reckon this kills the chances of Strokes headlining G.

I dunno. Just seems a bit odd.

Strong line up on the day at APE tho (if you're into that sorta stuff, I guess... Viagra Boys anyone?)

the Madge rumours originate from June 2018. She's since been ruled out by Emily.

While it's not impossible that Madge has been recruited since Emily ruled her out, it's far more likely that any Madge stuff going around is repeats from that story from June.

one geezer has said he's heard they're headlining, same as one geezer has said for others.

The mentions on the radio didn't say anything about headlining, and I reckon that would have been included if they were.

Sure, if Emily ruled The Strokes out it’d be fair enough, not playing.

And we went over with The Cure that people outside of music forums talk about acts playing and headlining festivals interchangeably without zeroing in on the difference. It’s a bit strange to think that “so and so is playing this festival” always means ‘not headlining’.

They might be playing.

But if they were headlining I'd have expected that to have been part of what Grim Nickshaw heard, and then he'd have likely repeated it in at least one of the times he mentioned them.

I might be wrong, but that's my take on it. They're not really a headliner-sized band for Glastonbury after all.

This is exactly what I’m saying though. We’ve heard about them headlining, and if it was any other act ‘playing’ would mean ‘headlining’, but the preconceived notion that they wouldn’t headline apparently overrides this info completely.

I think the fact that he mentioned them playing makes it less likely that they are headlining rather than more likely. The headliners are going to be a big announcement not Nick Grimshaw casually dropping it during his show. They could be sub-headliners maybe even Other stage headliners but I just don't see a Radio 1 DJ being allowed to make an off the cuff remark about a Pyramid headliner.

Radio DJs often make off the cuff remarks about people playing and headlining festivals. It’s not an official announcement channel so they can speculate like the rest of us

    • Same here, when the lineup dropped it looked very strong but this year I’m considering more whether I buy tickets for enjoyment or fomo.   Speaking of that dilemma, I caved and bought a Turnstile Piece Hall ticket so I’ll see you there 😂
