  1. In fairness I don't think you have missed anything good but Wiki says their last album went to number 1 in 2016 and they headlined Hyde Park in 2017.
  2. Yeah they could definitely do the Other but reckon they're still Pyramis sized based on this year. They sold out Hyde Park last year and do fairly big arena gigs. Not sure how but think they are weirdly popular still - probably as there's some younger fans mixed with those who still go for some nostalgia and the old stuff. I'm not bothered either way, just was an observation but I think they would get a fairly good crowd. I think they probably did miss the boat but with legend options ever decreasing and there seemingly being a lack of new contenders there's maybe a chance.
  3. Cool. I'm not actually meaning to criticise the festival as think the headliners are fairly par for the course festival wise. More meant that with all the options we have had, and repeats, I'm surprised they never got the gig considering their mainstream success.
  4. I know Green Day are naff and would get a reaction around here but do think they would be a better choice than The Killers really. Seems slightly strange they haven't ever done it considering their popularity and the lack of options/repeats that have happened. Feels like they almost should have headlined accidentally at some point.

    Idles

Idles are down as Friday on The Park on rumours. Any reason why that stage and what sort of time we thinking?
  6. Is Gary Clark Jnr quite likely? In Europe until the Thursday and then no dates over the weekend?
  7. To be fair ‘Stand by your beds’ tends to be for the poster announcement doesn’t it?
  8. If you’re warming up it’s normally immediately prior to the real thing, so I wouldn’t think it’s far off

    2019 Headliners

Yep it’s a different set up to Glastonbury as there’s basically two headliner slots in the dark they can take. The comparisons with Glastonbury aren’t there
  10. Didn’t really happen that way. The FA basically played poker and got an extra spot. General protocol/expectancy was 4th would miss out. Spanish Fed/La Liga did it when Real had won it in 2000. The Prem had said that would be the case when it looked possible between Arsenal/Chelsea we’re going for it in 03/04. However the FA basically called UEFAs bluff the next year, said Everton would get it and UEFA shat it that the holders wouldn’t get in (as was their full expectation) so gave England 5 places. They then changed the rules to make sure FAs couldn’t do that again and clarify the holders would always automatically qualify.

    2019 Headliners

The Smiths 30 odd years ago and something a decade ago that didn’t even end up happening aren’t exactly convincing reasons it will happen now are they?

Don't see any chance that Brian May turns up on the farm...

    Other Stage

I agree. But you said Emily’s comments suggested something, when they didn’t. It was just a tribute to Keith

    Other Stage

She doesn't say that at all. The sentence was all about Keith, who obviously can't play: "We are so saddened to hear about the passing of Keith Flint. He’s played here so many times with the Prodigy and was booked for 2019" I think it's very very very unlikely they play but I strongly doubt any firm decision would have been made and certainly not communicated at this time. They will be mourning right now, not picking up the phone to have a chat to the Eavis family. They will probably make the decision (probably to cancel) in the coming days.

    2019 Headliners

I think the reaction was a lot more positive than usual to be fair. Nobody really could say the booking wasn’t justified. The negative comments were more questions surrounding whether they were still any good live and would they live up to the hype (and it turned out, they could)

    2019 Headliners

Interesting. I think from memory AM were ‘confirmed’ on here prior so it wasn’t a shock - and people were by this point expecting the Stones (if slightly nervous it wouldn’t ever happen) but people were still unsure about Mumford until that evening

    2019 Headliners

Yep. So the Stones and Mumford were basically announced at the same time

    Idles

That's probably right. Found the message and it was someone just saying they had heard the Downs had/were "trying" for Prodigy and Idles. Be a hell of a homecoming gig for Idles anyway

    Idles

Ah that's good. Someone I know told me back before Christmas that it was them and someone else I forget - I think it was Prodigy?

    Idles

Yep. Saying he likes their first album, that they’re nice lads and they’ve had genuine struggles but somehow hates them now... that suggests it’s their success which has got his back up. I know a few people who’ve had dealings with them around Bristol and everyone talks about how genuine and friendly they are. Gigging for years, one works at the uni, one helped run a local music venue etc - it’s hardly manufactured pop band stuff. Jason having a pop at every opportunity comes across as needy.

    Idles

For the record i worded that badly - it was meant as support of Idles. As in I don’t think it’s patronising at all - the government isn’t their fault.

    Idles

Isn’t that the point though? Idles aren’t the government. They’re meant to be rallying against them and their ilk
