It’s grim.  Much love to anyone who has had to suffer Covid.  My wife is on her 2nd spell (first was worse but 2nd time was still bad).  I’ve just had my first and my god I don’t want to do it again.

It's just like people pissing on the ground at Glastonbury. It's easier or has better outcomes for them personally  but it potentially ruins it for everyone.

This is why I'm spending Christmas alone. Yes 90 percent of the blame for the way the virus has spread is on the government. If they hadn't lost the trust of  the general public. Failed track and trace, relieved restrictions too early clearly wanting people to Xmas shop and a million other things.  Then we could be see a whole different situation right now. 

But the idea that we shouldn't call out selfish behaviour when it leads to death, illness and longer time in restriction as well as the poor doctors and nurses who get the brunt of your selfishness. When you're thinking I'm going to take a risk n leave London or equivalent then you are being a dickhead. Assuming your situation is more important than hundreds of others. 

It also just sucks to be someone genuinely trying to follow rules at every turn, only to be completely undermined by this selfish behaviour. There's an argument to defend people leaving London but parties, not socially distancing at a pub or going round friends houses should be called out. Obviously as always I try to be empathetic but just hate the narratives that the people following rules and calling people out on here are the badguys because it's the governments fault and we should just give people a break.

We are trying to protect people. We are trying to end this shit! At the end of the day the virus doesn't discriminate, the virus has no sympathy for Xmas. For shit government advice. If you shift blame to explain your behaviour it's you and the people you come into contact with who will lose first, the nurses then the whole country

That's quite scary. I heard it was only a handful of repeated cases worldwide. I guess it was always going to increase as the pandemic continued though 😕

Yes ... it wasn’t somehow magically going to remain within the M25 unless nobody moved ... and the more people that move the quicker it overwhelms hospitals elsewhere , slowing movement is how we bring the vaccine more into play ... the sw cases are also rocketing ... that’s the reason for tier 4 and as harsh and unexpected as it is it’s the reality of a bloody horrible virus 🦠

in the briefing yesterday Whitty said it was 5% of Yorkshire cases, so it's clearly already around all parts of the UK (and will be Europe, too).

Yeah and it makes sense that health workers would be most at risk as so exposed.

That's another thing that annoys me about how badly the government have handled this: if it wasn't so widespread then surely it wouldn't have a chance to mutate? Could be totally wrong about that though!

At the risk of getting downvoted...I’m sticking to my Christmas plans.

In Scotland we’ve only to mix on the 25th, same as those in Tiers 1-3 in England. However, I plan to go home on the 23rd and return on the 26th. I’ve barely seen my mum this year and I think it’s really starting to affect her mental health now, as much as she won’t say it is, as much as my own. 
 

I know I’m not alone in this and plenty will be in the same position and still sticking to the rules but being home for Christmas is the one thing I’ve been clinging onto for months and I just can’t give it up. I barely leave my flat so I do feel the risk is minimal, however I know there will be plenty that will disagree with me. 
 

I’m sure many will brand me selfish, some may agree with me, but it’s just what I feel I need to do.

To be honest I think it's fair enouhh when you put it like that. You know you're not really supposed to, but you have good reasons to do it. These are difficult times and people are making tough choices.

I think what got people's backs up overnight was the self-righteous tone others were taking to justify their actions!
