Avalon is dying

Maybe time to move Avalon, it seems to be becoming incidental to the festival now and more of a cut through to get to SE corner. Maybe swap Arcadia with Avalon? I loved Arcadia when it seemed a part of SE  corner, appreciating that area will be ome even more crowded. Just think there is a real desire for a dedicated area for Avalon, although will cost a bit to move the fixed infrastructure. I do think there is as much demand for non dance music so moving it to Arcadia might move the crowds a bit to the West? Who knows, we can't lose Avalon though...

Lol yeah cos we need more DJ's and sh*t huh 😉

There needs to be more late night non dance stuff around the site, even if its a dj playing indie/britpop/rock, Avalon could be a good stage to use after the bands have finished that isnt just dance music

Yet again sorry to say it but Emily/GFL fart assing around with the site is just ruining it.  Yes progress is good but Williams Green and Avalon were perfectly fine before they messed with it.  I know Williams had problems in 2022 with Mel C and the crowd problems but instead of removing the tent and Inn on the Green there must have been a better solution.  Weds/Thurs were fantastic at both venues.  Guilty pleasure in the tent at Williams Green made the weekend!!!!

I've always said that moving the Rocket Lounge and Diner to Avalon would be good move. Rocket Lounge has always felt like it needs to be somewhere else other the SE corner for people who want that vibe without having the ordeal of everything else in the SE corner.

Avalon/Sensation Seekers should be the new home for late night cheesy sing-alongs for those who want to party till 3am but aren't chasing beats.

Have always wanted those 2 to come out of SE corner - especially as you have to go through the whole thing to get to them, so that by the time you get there, you just want to leave!

Avalon was always were I spent most of my festival, this year I didn't see one act there. Not that there wasn't anything good, just that there were no must sees. Anything I fancied was out trumped by something on elsewhere.

The Scratch were excellent on Avalon though, despite being up against Shania.

Did anyone happen to see Lulu? Did she pull in a big crowd?

First Williams Green, and now Avalon and Unfairground being massively cut back. Will be interesting to see where they take both those areas from here.

Big I think, without being a field closer. A lot of fun. She dropped more names than Nile Rodgers.

This. Given its proximity to the SE corner, it's perhaps no surprise that they have gutted it. They're probably just trying to reduce the footfall in that region of the site.

A relocation could work wonders for it.

It's always felt to me like it should really be the other side of the railway line. Before they started putting on the cheesy pop act that would cause the filed to be closed. There's been a lot of acts played Avalon and Croissant Neuf over the years. Maybe move it next to Undle Ground so it adjoins CN?

At the same time, if it were moved, that field would likely be given over to late night noisy stuff, currently it at least is another field barrier between Green Futures and the beats!

The biggest factor in Avalon having less things in the field is the much bigger stage than used to be there, rather than anything else, surely.

I'd say it looks quite an univiting place now, mainly because of how much space the stage takes up.

    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
    • 1. Coming with my sister (our 4th Sziget together) 2. 3 days (Thursday-Saturday). Would rather do Tuesday-Thursday but not enough AL 😞 3. Wednesday evening  4. Apartment  5. FATM (will be my 10th Florence’s gig) 6. Parcels/Paris Paloma
    • Temperature was the main issue - luke warm at best
