Why must you constantly suggest there is some sort of conspiracy going on to keep us locked down? Why would the gov do that? The same gov who like 6 months ago did the eat out to help out scheme.

I can’t see any Conservative government willingly shutting down the economy without good reason. They’ll be desperate to get us back spending as soon as it’s safe to do so!

Oh, do fuck off Daily Mail. This is becoming a disturbing habit, but the stated government policy of following the data, not the dates is the correct one. And right now, most people are not protected and the cases fall is stalling.

So, let's follow the data and be cautious. Selfishly, I hope schools will be able to reopen on time. Then we'll see.

He's just spamming nonsense at this point mate, the government will have a measured approach out of lockdown.

Testing left up to parents to complete? No way that happens.

I filled the forms in yesterday for our youngest 2 (age 15).

They’re to be tested on a Monday and a Thursday when the Scottish schools go back.

They go back for science classes this Monday.

We're definitely in the period now where there's going to be a lot of not very nice public tension between the unlock faster and stay inside until September camps.

But at least it's something to discuss and kick us onto page 3,000!

I keep failing to see why people think the two options are "oPeN iT All up!" And keep "everything closed until September".

It's plainly obvious neither of these are the plan. But it's like we've lost any ability to have a nuanced discussion.

That's simply not true, in my area the council are going door to door to encourage people to get a test (and have been for months), they have also done the mass testing in Liverpool and the recent "surge" testing for the new variants. They seem very keen to find as many cases as possible. This is why this is an issue, it makes no difference as far as healthcare goes if there are extra false positives as long as genuine cases are identified. The problem is if these inflated case numbers are used to justify damaging restrictions.

in your area they're doing that (and in other areas too) - whrere there's spacific issues they're trying to stamp on.

But it's still a small part of the number of tests. The majority each and every week are care homes, hospitals, prisons, govt offices, etc, etc, etc, who are weekly tested and so will only pick up recent infections.

What about a referendum to decide and then a festival for the winner to gloat? That should unite the country.

Don't worry about me, i'm a crazy conspiracy theorist, here's a song for you all, Neil might like it.

The idiots claim the govt is out to get us with every single thing they do. If it's not an extreme view on testing with scant reference to actual facts, it's an extreme view on what's in the vaccine. Or stopping the steal. Or Project Fear.

Others have a better balance with reality. 🙂

uh? You've been one of the "keep everything closed until September" types.

Which means no festivals no big crowds and no gigs (no gigs until 2022).

We *need* to get everything open by September, or at least have trialled all scenarios by then. Because what's not opened by September is unlikely to be open before next summer whether it really needs to be closed or not.

A nuanced discussion on nuanced data?

Such as not being concerned with infection levels if there's no associated healthcare overload?

He's also one of those "shouldn't be travelling around the world in a pandemic" types... While traveling around the world.

I don’t know anyone irl that’s travelled during this pandemic but this thread is full of them. It’s usually the most preachy people about how the pandemic is gonna last forever too (exaggerating obv). Utterly mental.

I didn’t get the chance to go abroad last year (2 holidays cancelled during first lockdown and then my Mrs couldn’t get the time off once it relaxed) but I will 100% be going abroad this summer if there is any possibility of doing so without any quarantine period.

It's a bit more nuanced than that.

I'm not saying we open everything up at the same time. But if the vaccine programme does groups 1-9 by April, I dont see the point in taking too long in opening up. And social distancing 'just in case' after vaccinations can piss off

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
