Just got back from Fareham Community Hospital for my jab as one of the Over 75 group. Had the text yesterday afternoon, made an appointment for 2 p.m. today and was in and out in two minutes, then had a compulsory sit down for 15 minutes, but no cup of tea. Its like a military operation stacks of volunteers directing in the car park, marshalling in the hospital to the rooms, taking details, so professional. Got a card to carry now, got a sticker for my coat, explanatory leaflet, now await notification of 2nd jab. Must be doing hundreds today, so impressive. I gather that after two weeks I have up to 70% immunity.

That tallies with my mum's experience, she had her jab (pfizer) today, she rang and booked as she hadn't heard from them (she doesn't text or mobile, she's 85) got straight in and then had the 15 min wait, she said "there were loads there getting it". They told her the second jab would be in three months so it looks like they're going with the plan to do as many as possible first.

Nothing here either!! Last time we did and it felt right to do it despite me being slated on here by some!!! This time it just felt superficial. I think the best we can support and show respect to nhs staff and other key workers is stay inside and not mix with others unless necessary!!!

Similar situation to my Mum....call on Tuesday....straight in this afternoon...15 minute sit down in a big tent.  Done 👍

I didn't clap. But I did email my MP asking him to raise a request in Parliament to increase pay for any and all NHS and frontline staff. I will send this email every Thursday evening. It feels like a more practical thing to do than just giving them a round of applause.

Vaccination stats have been updated including UK’s latest figures from 3. Jan.

By all means UK is catching Bahrain. With the oxford roll-out could definitely see us catch Bahrain but not UAE or Israel at the rate they are vaccinating (Israel has increased by 1.26 in one day). USA remains at a steady pace.

Interesting to note Italy have really started to increase the pace (0.43 to 0.64 in one day). However, moving one of the fastest is denmark. An increase from 1.09 to 1.43 in just one day!! That’s super fast vaccinating when looking at population adjusted rates.

Other countries to keep an eye on are Estonia and Croatia, they are starting to move quickly now too, and Sweden which has published data for the first time today. France increases from 0.01 to 0.07 in one day and totals now at 45,000 vaccinations done. Germany, however continues to move at a relatively slow speed.

We will see how the rates change as UK starts to distribute AZ and the EU starts to give out Moderna which can both be done a lot quicker.

International travellers will need to show a negative Covid-19 test before being allowed into the UK, the government has announced, in a significant toughening of border controls to try to stem the spread of new coronavirus variants. The new rules will take effect next week and apply to returning UK nationals as well as foreign citizens. Passengers will need to produce a test result taken less than 72 hours before boarding planes, boats or trains to the UK, and could be fined £500 in border spot checks without a negative result.

Hopelessly late.

And why "spot checks"? Why not check every passenger? I was checked 3 times on arrival in Spain and every single person was checked. In addition, every single person had their passenger locater form checked, whilst in the UK I have never had to show it.

Patients with covid on a specialist non-covid ward are not isolated from other (non-covid) patients. Freely able to wander around the ward (with nurses saying that to family as a sign of covid patients ok health).

We're utterly fucked.

As a society, we seem to have got drink driving down to a very low level. They used shocking ads, showing people in horror accidents.

I don't know why they don't do the same to get people to comply with the rules. Covid deaths are unbearably awful, people desperately gasping for air endlessly until the end - nurses say it's like watching someone drown in front of them.

Too many people are in denial and don't realise this. Might wake them up.

The BBC were showing a harrowing piece from inside a hospital during the news. They should put that on between programmes.

Exactly. In an ad can also show the connection between a young person going to his mates for a few drinks and then as a result infecting his gran, who suffers terribly.

Better to scare a few people than have people too complacent.
