Jeez we’re going to have too much vaccine and not enough people to vaccinate aren’t we?!

Might be a good thing if it turns out the delay between 1st and 2nd doses was a huge mistake. Then we can move on to breaking the manufactuer guidelines in another way and give people a 3rd dose

but you have no idea if they are or not.

You don't know what the vaccine supply rates will be, and you don't know what the vaccination rates will be.

I'm merely pointing out that someone within govt will have those details (or at least, someone saying what they should be) and that info is exceedingly likely to have passed even detail-light Spaffer's ears.

These same people who have made a cock-up of everything the government has done in the last god knows how long?

Strange but I find it hard to trust them. Everything this government does is through a lens of incompetence.

And the clincher is that even the ministers are already backtracking on the target - listen to Johnson, listen to Zahawi. They know it's hopelessly unrealistic but love the short term positive headlines.

The 13 million simply represents the total of the most vulnerable groups.

It's the 'date' that's been set plucked from the air, not the 'target'.

AZ said they may be able to supply up to 2 million doses per week at some stage (although short of that at the moment). I think we are running currently on about 300, 000 Pfizer doses per week.

Multiplied by 5 that makes 11,500,000.

They've basically wanged the projections solely based on future supply and added a bit on..

Khan is asking Boris Johnson to tighten restrictions in London, including closing places or worship and making facemasks mandatory outdoors.

Completely sensible - amazed they haven't done this already.

Close everything apart from supermarkets !! This lockdown is failing and chemists obviously

Yeah that makes sense. Probably stop people mixing one on one for exercise outside too?

I think the big one is getting people out of their workplaces.

Don't leave it to employers to decide. Needs more money for furlough.

Short term pain for long term gain...

There's govt cock-ups (and just occasionally: successes) and then there's Spaffer's bullshit.

There's things long into the future that can be talked about, and then there's things 6 weeks down the line.

And then there's things that aren't known how to be done, and there's things which are known how to be done.

Not all of these things are the same, and some can be based on real things.

There's incompetence, and then there's the utterly fucking stupid.

Spaffer has a record of the utterly fucking stupid of course, but to be fair to him he's also managed to ballpark-hit* some of the shorter-term claims he's made (claims he's made on the basis of information rather than wild hopes for the long-future)

(* ballpark-hit = close enough, even if not quite there).

Zahawi isn't going to want to be hung for something Spaffer said, and (gawd help us all) as one of the smarter tories he knows not to string himself up with his own different claims.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying I expect the govt to absolutely hit what Spaffer claimed, I'm saying what he's claimed is likely to be within the possible from what 3rd parties are telling govt. I'm expecting something like 10M+.

Yeah, I think private vaccines for things like yellow fever and rabies are about £50 each, and that's for diseases you're not going to catch in the UK.

£500 for a covid vaccine isn't going to happen, but you might need to pay for yearly boosters like with the flu jab.

I spent best part of £300 on my rabies vaccine! That's for two doses. Yellow fever was probably quite a bit cheaper but can't remember now.

Not sure what it means in practical terms but sounds serious...

Yep, very serious. Possible invocation of the Civil Contingencies Act if needed to cover some pretty serious and imminent actions and institute a whole range of measures to reduce demand and concentrate resources.

I was working on a small piece of this last March relating to one small area.

Have a look at these two docs.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pandemic-flu (flu but principle are the same). The Covid one is not public.

Except it's not the same people is it.

Its not the ministers doing the doing it's just people doing their jobs.

Eek, is that London prices? I'm sure I was quoted £60 per jab for rabies, & I paid £40 for the yellow fever one.

£300 for a vaccine for rabies?? I'd want actual rabies for that.

Well it's pretty much certain death (I think one person ever has survived full-blown rabies; got really interested in it and read up on it at the time!). So I reasoned it was worth it despite the low risk and insane cost.

I'm actually rounding up but from a quick search, it's £174 for the first dose and £50 for the subsequent one. So it was £225, not £300. All in all, with other jabs and anti-malarials, I just remember feeling pretty cleaned out!

Obviously it would be bonkers to charge anything like £500 for the Covid vaccine, though. Demand so much higher for one thing.

Short thread on what the Mayor is asking for, nothing seems unreasonable. I don't know a lot about this but isn't it effectively just a trigger to formally ask for more help from central government in bad circumstances?

Christ I would hope not! It was at Boots and am sure the prices would be the same across the country. As I say above though, I was exaggerating a bit and it was a bit less. Sounds like you've already had the initial jab and just needed the booster.

Edit: actually it looks like there is another version that involves three doses at £60 each, so it may have been that one. But still pretty pricey!
