Where is that from? Needs a link or at least a source of the data, trying to explain to deniers from just an image is difficult

Have a look at this as well.

Long document but all in there.

Masks outdoors won't happen because it's far too divisive amongst his base and Boris is already hanging on by a thread considering a lot of the anti-mask/skeptic lot will be right voters. Lockdown is going to be as far as they're going to push it now. If it was going to happen it would have happened way before now (and personally I've not seen any compelling evidence that transmission outside is high enough to warrant it). They might fluff it and say "wear them in busy areas" but it won't be mandated completely.

There's also a lot of issues around people thinking it's either masks or distancing and losing all sense of personal space, when it's always been pretty clear distancing is more important.

Didn't they have a value R would be reduced by for all different restrictions? I'm sure the wearing masks outside wouldn't make an awful lot of difference. They need to stop people meeting inside, and if people are infected they need to isolate properly, which would ideally mean the state sticking them in a hotel, covering all costs etc.

Anyway, cases might be coming down now, lockdown might actually be working, we just don't know yet...although saw that they estimate R is between 1.1 and 1.5 for England.

Still a massive amount of cases per day but another encouraging drop to the 7 day average.

1,410 new cases and the 7 day average per 100,000 drops from 645.4 to 599.8.

Another day, another slight drop, four days in a row now so hopefully it looks like our growth has slowed significantly and is possibly going to start falling.

Still a massive 1,500 new cases, but now down from 599.8 to 588.6 per 100,000.

This is an insane suggestion. Will have basically no impact on numbers and just make people miserable.

Except it's already been instituted in several countries recently. So not unrealistic.

In many countries, masks are required outside unless you are:

- eating/drinking

- running/cycling

I think that's a good balance personally, especially as the latter allows for some outdoor exercise.

Seeing them absolutely everywhere is a constant reminder to be on your guard. Unofficially people also take them off if far away from other people and in the countryside.

It seems to be household transmission that they don’t like so the allowance of meeting 1 person from another household could give off the impression to people things aren’t as bad either. Maybe they need to get rid of that and possibly certain support bubbles?

Lots of countries have implemented measures that I don't think we should follow. Banning people doing exercise is definitely one of them. I am perplexed anyone would think it is a good idea. Would do way more harm than good.

God these two women getting fined for driving 5 miles to take a walk!! There’s nothing saying you aren’t allowed to do that- it only says you need to stay in your local area. I would hardly say 5 miles is out of your local area. Also they aren’t breaking any rules- you are allowed to meet up 1 on 1 for a walk and takeaways are allowed!!

This is a joke I hope they challenge the fine. The police are really losing any sense of anything here- they let people get away with house parties etc and don’t enforce masks in shops but they are picking on people for going for a walk. Really not happy when I just read that.

I don't mean to be pedantic but that wouldn't be banning exercise.

Joe Wicks did a live exercise workout to 1million people who spent no money, needed no kit and required no more than a couple of metres of space.

Where there's a will, there's a way...

Maybe they were hoping the women would say 'well officers, maybe there's something we can do to make the fine go away...' like they'd seen on the internet.

The police going for those women walking in derbyshire is fuckin ridiculous, why don't they spend their time enforcing things that actually make a difference, like house parties, masks etc.

They'd driven seven miles to go there, it is a local spot where the car park was getting crowded with people travelling there to 'walk' and complaints had been made and they would not have been given an FPN if they hadn't kicked off. It's also the site where last summer it was overrun with people travelling to it during the lockdown.

Ok outdoor exercise then...

Also that clearly requires kit cause you would need a TV/ Laptop and internet to partake. Not saying it isn't a good thing tho.

Exactly. If the virus is that prevalent and we really need tight action then keeping people inside by saying no outdoor exercise might be a way to help with that.

Plus as you say you can still exercise indoors.

It is in my opinion. Lots more things they could tighten up that would actually have an impact.

Banning outdoor exercise is a double whammy of not doing much if anything to control the virus and then making a shit winter even worse for people.

Imagine!!

I honestly just find it crazy. If they don’t want people to take a walk with a friend then don’t allow it in the law. If what they did is such a crime then exercise needs to be banned altogether and no social contact. Also the government have chosen to allow Starbucks to stay open so fining them for going to get a takeaway coffee is ridiculous. I also would say there is no reason why coffee shops actually need to stay open right now so if you don’t want people to go don’t let them be open.

The housing stock in the UK absolutely fucking sucks and myself and the vast majority of my friends live in pokey houseshares in cities. Getting out for a walk is absolutely vital for mental health, physical health, vit D, and understanding there's some life outside of four walls. Outdoor transmission's extremely low, it's not risky unless you're hanging around with people in a huddled group for ages.

The onus should be and always be on stopping people from meeting indoors, not stopping people from being outside.

This basically sums it up. I have no idea why so many people in this thread seem to be unfazed by ideas like this when there is so many more positive steps they could take to reduce transmission.

The thing is, if we want to go down that route then fine. But it’s not reasonable to ban outdoor exercise but allow coffee shops to stay open for takeaway. Realistically the government are asking for people to be out and about- things like garden centres and the range etc are still open and even the clothes sale in m&s is as busy as ever. There’s loads of people going into work who could be wfh so there’s lots of things which could be tightened up first if you’re going to ban exercise. Banning exercise alone won’t do anything if all those other things are facilitated.

If the government want us to “stay local” then we need to be given a legal radius distance of which we are allowed to leave our house. No good saying stay local but no one actually even knows what it means. This lockdown is another shambles.

    • It would be piss-easy for a bot to manage, though.
    • I've heard that ticket sales for other events that use the same system have included the question 'are you still there?' on each window/browser you have with a place in the queue. If you don't confirm you are, it'll assume you're not and that place will drop.   I've no idea if Glasto/See will adopt this, but it would be challenging to keep on top of with many windows open.
    • People who're struggling are already priced out, so I don't think a bump in price will affect who attends. There'll still be a cross section, leaning young. I also think they'll do a soft breaking of the £400 ceiling, keeping the ticket price just below but having postage take it over. Next year the ticket itself will be over that threshold.
