2019 Headliners

Glasto as a one off makes no sense, a tour would give justification for getting a whole new show. However doesn't the residency come with some sort of restriction on other gigs, so that it retains its sense of exclusivity?

The residency restrictions are a bit unknown. People like Celine Dion had them, Britney didnt. Others have and haven't.

Relatively speaking (compared to other residencies) Gaga doesn't actually have that many Vegas dates and she is doing other events (albeit corporate gigs).

My hunch is the Vegas residency will be like Coachella's restrictions - play no public shows in the US for a period of months. Would be surprised if the contact covers Europe too.

As her Vegas residency goes up to November, there's always the possibility the album is this autumn, and the tour and festival circuit is 2020.

I'm still here throwing my weight firmly behind the Gaga, so that all the rest of the forum will have to grovel and bow down to me as the all seeing eye who never silenced from speaking the truth, even when hope was dullest.

Remember how ME personally drove The Killers to the JP tent for their performance then watched them in 2017?.... It was pencilled in back then...now sealed...

America act hence the lack of concrete evidence but I reckon (and hoping( they are on...

The Killers are never gonna headline Glastonbury again.

I personally think Bon Jovi would be a great booking. They have a huge back catalogue of solid singalong classics. They are ridiculously professional as a feel good live act. No, they are not to everyone's taste but they would be well suited to a late afternoon slot. It would have to be the Pyramid. Their last tour was one of the most profitable ever (yes, I read those industry lists too) so Pyramid or nothing. Cetainly a lot more fun than The Cure.

I completely agree. Just imagine singing along to Bon Jovi then singing (droning) to The Cure. I won't be completely devastated if they're not there though, as I'm already seeing them in June.

I like this idea of an American headliner, Gaga, Killers, whoever.

Im glad the talk has deviated back down to The Killers and Lady Gaga. Trying to give myself the lowest exoectations I can cause if I start building ny hopes uo for Fleetwood Mac and then one of the forementioned is announced then Im gonna be gutted. That said Wu Tang is a solid back up for any disappointing announcements as they come.

How did we end up back on Madonna and Fleetwood Mac etc after ruling them out months ago.

Somebody claimed to have heard Madonna was the last headliner so it got us to momentarily get our hopes up for something better than the bloody Strokes. Things might’ve changed since that Emily interview if Macca has pulled out. And Fleetwood Mac’s tour dates fit in quite nicely so they’re always gonna be brought up until we get the announcement.

edit: oh and somebody claimed to have heard from somebody at a Fat White Family gig that the third headliner was Fleetwood.

You’re safe, looks like they’ve fallen on hard times according to Google, no chance of being headliners:

I live in Rochdale.... the Empire was a right dive when I was young. I believe it's had a paint job, but still full of people from Rochdale.

Still too good for Bon Jovi though.

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
