(Re: Tame Impala)

It took a while for them to click with me. With AM at Fins park was weak. Since then they've developed serious meat live. Last couple of times the light show has been spectacular, and is a real key part of their set (See: Mad cool).

Those screens, that drop during let it happen... ?

Out of about 300 gigs attended, that Tame Impala set in 2016 remains my standout favourite. Wasn't even a massive fan of theirs beforehand.

Fair enough, its not really my thing to be honest. Was one of the worst sets ive seen, In contrast to explosions in the sky the same year they weren't even on the same playing field so to speak.

Dancing in the 30 degree sun with all the confetti cannons going off is one of my favourite gig memories of all time. I wouldn't even say i'm a huge fan of the band (certainly a fan, though) but it was a hell of a moment.

That opening to let it happen with the canons going off was insane. What a set ?

I'm sure the Madonna fee was mentioned in here as to what she would normally ask, not necessarily what she has/would ask of Glastonbury. Too far back to check that now. I'm clutching at this straw wholeheartedly. There is the possibility macca was never in the frame for this year, we've all just assumed he's being replaced.

Madonna isn't happening. She's not going to turn up and do a greatest hits set on the cheap. If she ever plays, it'll be to promote a new album and be setlist heavy on that.

Nah she's too clever to pull a 'here's a load of new songs'. She may wait until she is doing a greatest hits tour but she would research and see what has gone down well with other artist sets and festival crowds are greatest hits sets.

I do wonder if Macca is signed up for 2020. I'm sure Emily or Michael said they've been working on both as 2020 is the 50th anniversary he could be the big name for that.

Yeah I mean that's just as good as it gets really. Phenomenal stuff.

You've just made me 10x more pumped for Mad Cool in the Glastonbury headliner thread ?

The visuals and sound quality at Mad Cool on the main stages were top-tier.

More festivals need to adopt those screens.

As much as I would like to be proved wrong, in no way do I think Madonna is going to headline.

However, she is supposed to be releasing a new album this year and embarking on a world wide tour ??‍♀️

Any clear reasons it couldn't be Roger Waters?  His 'Us+Them' tour has recently finished, he hasn't played for 17 years, and his political stance fits.

Saw him last year, a terrific gig and yes his politics would certainly suit. The stage effects wouldn’t work on the pyramid

Yeah best stage set up Ive ever seen. By some distance. The Nine Inch Nails gig in particular was a standard everyone else should aspire too.

I saw Arctic Monkeys headline Leeds in 2009 and it still remains the worst live performance I've seen by any artist.

That gig (and Reading of course) is talked about amongst AM fandom as the peak of their fucking about days and it annoyed a fair few people. Dropping a Nick Cave cover as the second song is taking the piss a bit tbf.

Yes, that was it! First time at a gig I was glad not to get a seat near the stage. The effects were tremendous from the tiered seats

There is only one way to solve The Strokes debate, is to have a second referendum, now everyone just needs to phone their mum and ask “do you know who The Strokes are”

My mum said "they were that band you used to be into."

So in summary back in June she was rumoured, Oct - Emily said "Not booked" doesn't mean weren't still trying? A mention of being Madge or macca - well now we know not Macca. Fee a possible stumbling block but they got round it for the stones.

Reading 09 was amazing - the people getting annoyed was a great bonus too

it's not impossible of course, but in interviews the autumn before a festival she tends to kill-off any of the bigger rumours that aren't true.

Of the rumours that were going around for 2019 Madge was the biggest, so it seems reasonable she'd want to kill it just as she has big rumours in other years.

I enjoyed the show immensely for that reason I think, appreciate it was dreadful for a casual fan, but that they came on and played loads of Humbug tracks a couple of days after release was funny in my eyes.

    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never been the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them after Thursday & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
