I tell you what's going to put people off is feeling as shite as my missus is at the moment.

Everyone I know who's had one has said the same - tiredness, fever, shivering and headaches?

Only 47% for events is unsurprising given all the fear but concerning for their futures

Full lockdown is no longer necessary or proportionate.

Boris should announce an that all step 1 unlockings are moved forward to next week, including the outdoor rule of 6.

There are some graphs I linked to last week that indicated 40, not 60 is the where the hospitalisation danger point drops. I reckon keep going for a little bit longer, but I could see a bit of speeding up once the over 40s have their first doses.

I’m very optomistic and I don’t think a Tory govt will keep these restrictions any longer than necessary ... they will see the numbers plummeting and will be having discussions with the scientists I would think ... let’s see what happens with the press conferences this week and the CRG .. and the schools opening ... that will give us an idea of where we are early ... hopefully things can get brought forward ... but we also know how cases can skyrocket ...

They'll have to decide early for pubs e,t.c. Maybe make the April and May release wider rather than brining dates forward would be easier?

IM sure the geeks would rather we stayed locked up 'Just in case'.

why do you insist on the word Geeks ? do you mean scientists ? the ones that will have helped us out of the mess and saved many lives ? throughout we have had different thoughts and have opened up early on several occassions ...and look what mess thats created previously ...  better to go slow now , but also worth checking data as we go ...

How long did it take you from signing up to volunteer to get approved/access to the app?

So I first registered my interest with St John Ambulance for volunteering on 13th January. Since then I've done an application form, a DBS check, hours of online training and face to face training (and this is to be a patient advocate, rather than actually jabbing!). I got access to the app last week or so, about a week after I'd completed all the steps above. I now have one shift confirmed, I think, (in mid March) and haven't found anything else yet. Been a lot of admin so far! Hoping it does lead to a few shifts in the end but there seem to be easier volunteering routes than via SJA. Best of luck if going for it!

im sure many will be breaking the restrictions already and many more will feel soon that they might be ... the govt decisions will also be based on large numbers not being off work through a sudden surge of infections if we were to lift immediately .... so the restrictions might be in place to enable a slower increase rather than one that hits us over the space of a short period of time so becomes less manageable ... im sure they know already people are breaking them ... they just want to slow this down given that we still have 6000 cases per day

I'm with you on this CF, let's see how the stats are once the kids are back at school. It's all great news right now and there's no need to think it won't improve further still but March is key. If we get through March and the data still looks good, why not look to slightly loosen some of the restrictions? Nothing major. Let's wait and see. A little way to go but where we sit today, it's looking positive

Just found out my dad's cousin was housebound with a few illnesses and had a vaccine and died a couple of days later, very sad. Difficult to know what happened really but reading some of the stuff today in this thread re: immune systems going haywire, it's possible that had a bit of an adverse effect and her body couldn't handle it. Probably quite rare.

This is where we in the UK are victims of our own scientific prowess. Every country in the world has mutations but we are the ones doing all the generic sequencing to notice them, all of which leads to fringe scientists whipping up scaremongering fear porn in order to drive longer lockdowns. Again, I’m sure the actual scientific leaders like Chris Whitty will be largely unconcerned.

It's got everything to do with covid, the pandemic is the excuse to bring about fundamental change to society, as the public realise this there is going to be widespread unrest, this summer will be key, that is why I mentioned protest in my post yesterday. This is not about preventing violent protest, that is already illegal, they are trying to criminalise peaceful protest such as civil disobedience, that is the real threat to them, if enough people protest they cannot get their agenda through. Look at Piers Corbyn, how many times has he been arrested this last year? Was he being disruptive? violent? causing any inconvenience to anyone? His only "crime" was opposing the government narrative on covid, even if you think he's a crackpot, you should be worried about his treatment. If he is a crackpot you have to ask why the government see him as such a threat.

It's not so long ago that Hong Kong was a free democracy, things can get bad very quickly,

Hong Kong charges 47 activists in largest use yet of new security law

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-56228363

This is drivel, there is not going to be wide spread unrest this summer as there is going to be an easing of restrictions this summer*. China was cracking down on human rights in Hong Kong long before the pandemic and I'm sure Patel would love to ban all protest but she isn't going to and she certainly isn't using the pandemic as an excuse to.

*With restrictions easing and a feeling of normality returning we probably will see more activity by Extinction Rebellion but that's not what you're talking about after all the secret world Government agenda for the Great Reset is on their side so they'll be ecstatic if you're weird paranoid fantasies come to pass.

Wonder if there's a behavioural science aspect to this, people relaxing things too much in the sun? The stories out of Manaus are very worrying but compliance will disappear soon without stories like this. Hopefully will go the same way as the Bristol, Liverpool ones and just disappear from the news

The problem is, you're mixing up "jokes" with genuinely held beliefs in a debate. You're diminishing the contribution of scientists who are trying to prevent death. It's not funny, it's dangerous, give it a rest.

When the costs of “preventing death” is such an unsubtle erosion of mental health, society and the economy it’s a debate worth having.

Bit of a coincidence that the same weekend that the parks have been getting busier and people have been meeting outdoors before it’s government sanctioned, they find the super scary Brazil variant.
They must be saving the California one for summer.

I hate saying things like this but I agree, especially when you mix that in with today's lowest cases since September and us hitting 20 million first vaccinations
