I did see that but it matches up with what I’ve heard. I used to work for BIMM and heard something through someone from there that knows the band so I’d guess it’s accurate.

Less confirmation of an act and more of a presence - Super League has just confirmed Magic Weekend will go back to Hill Dickinson Stadium in May next year, as the July date - this weekend - is unavailable due to existing commitments.

 

Could be something from nothing, but...

I'm not sure how much truth there is in it, but the word on the street is that Hill Dickinson can't hold any gigs as there isn't the capacity to exit thousands of people off the pitch quickly if there's an emergency.

Seems like a massive oversight in today’s multipurpose stadium environment if so. I watched a decent YouTube video the other week about US stadiums being knocked down as they were mutlipurpose i.e the Pontiac Silverdome which was open for just 48 years

That's interesting, where did you hear that? I can actually see this being true, the lower tier isn't particularly big on any of the stands and it's quite tight outside. 

 

I'm going there for the other rugby this coming Saturday and I'm in a lower tier so I'll look at it through those eyes!! 

 

Though they have said that the fanzone bit outside can have 16,000 capacity gigs and they'd use the stand for bars and toilets etc. the pier head has like 40,000 capacity so it's working at a different level. It is however still more than the arena in Liverpool (11,000) and castlefield bowl in Manchester (8,000) so there's definitely a gap to be filled there. 

 

Long winded way of saying they might be planning to have that in July even if the main stadium can't be used

It was on a Liverpool forum, hence saying I'm not sure how true it is.

 

To be fair, most posts about the stadium on there are positive (good for the city etc.) and there's a fair bit of local knowledge, but 🤷

I’ve been sceptical about the rumours he’s doing Christmas arena shows, given he did exactly that in 2024. I think it more likely he’ll do outdoor shows next summer (inevitably means his Christmas arena dates drop imminently)
