In terms of the 'secret set', how secret actually is it? I.e. how long before the 'secret' band play is it revealed/known....

2017 they were all pretty much nailed on weeks innadvance iirc. They even just changed Liam Gs because it was that open a secret.

Everybody seemed to be saying Libertines on the day, but I didn't trust it until I checked on here. I suppose if you don't know what's a trustworthy source, you're not going to fully buy even the most rampant rumour. The Killers seemed to be a different matter though, didn't the King Gizz chaps even make an obvious reference towards the end of their set? Everybody knew it was The Killers.

Do people think The Cure could headline the Other Stage? The Strokes could then headline the pyramid

The Cure are far bugger than The Strokes aren't they??

I always though the strokes were a flash in the pan. Nit sure why there is so much hype surrounding them.

It's true that it's often leaked a bit, but I was at this one and most of the folks there had no idea who was coming on...

I wasn't at that stage, but I didn't find out who it was until the following morning when others in my group told me.  Not that it would have changed what I was doing - I'm not a fan.  I did however get told - and totally swallowed - a wonderful yarn about who was playing by some random in the West Holts field earlier in the day.

Frank Carter mentioned them during his set. There was a bit of booing at which point he told the boo-ers to fuck off until they'd written a banger like Mr Brightside.

Got a good laugh out of me that did.

Where have these Stroke 'rumours' come from? Is it just one person saying it would be cool followed by 3 pages of how it would happen/when it would happen? Or is there something to it?

No. 30 pages.

Grimmy said it twice on the nation's favourite apparently.

yep.

The Cure sold out BST last summer, and pretty quick too.

I'll be mildly surprised if The Strokes sell out their APE show which is less than half the size and with a lot more support too, based on how the APE shows sold last summer.

With that undercard I’d be very surprised if The Strokes couldn’t shift 40k tickets.

The last time the strokes played Hyde park, I got a couple of those £2.50 tickets they were knocking out

He's a bit of a special case though (in more ways than one), before his solo comeback he was barely selling out academies with Beady Eye (and they actually had members of Oasis too) but somehow generated a huge wave of enthusiasm for his solo album by sheer force of personality and novelty factor alone, which is pretty impressive. Whether the second album and future tours will be met with the same degree of enthusiasm now he's been around a bit and everyone's had the chance to see him is another question altogether.

I think the Supersonic documentary helped build enthusiasm and led to Warner brothers signing him and investing a million pounds into his solo career which definitely helped. I'm surprised there was so little made of that video of him assaulting his girlfriend last year though considering the current era we're in (NME didn't even report it and they print nearly everything he does).

My prediction is the strokes doing a set in a tent, a darkish uninterested tent, acting like they’d rather be in a smaller darker even more uninterested tent.

Doing it for real.

Thing is as well, the buzz behind The Strokes doing a secret JP slot and The Killers won't even be on the same level.

    • I am as well not a fan of these side by side stages. too many people at the same places and you have always people around you who wait for the other stage...
    • If only they could get the Bits area back (and add maximum 5k capacity) the site would feel less crowded.
    • Blame it on the side-by-side setup. There are cases where it works well - got a great location in front of the middle screen for Bexter Dury-Big Thief-Little Simz, just had to move about 20 meters each time for a great location. But on most cases it sucks
    • was happy to swerve the main stages on Saturday, but thought it was fine for The Cure, we just went down the opposite side & got a decent spot close to the front, everyone into it (admittedly a bit off to the side)   a festival that now books Olivia Rodrigo as a surprise set isn't going to get any smaller, for better or for worse it is miles apart from when I was first going   personally I still find the people amazing, never have any hassle & the line ups are always so strong & diverse.  We will definitely return for the 25th anniversary next year!
    • I love this festival but Mordor has got worse and worse to the point now that I dread going there. 10 years ago there just weren’t as many people, as many bottlenecks and there wasnt the need to arrive early to have a decent spot.
