I think we might get to that June date and Boris will be in celebratory mood and tell us all to get out and about etc, but with the caveat that negative tests/proof of vaccination will be needed to do some fun things.

Might also tell pubs/restaurants to limit capacity/retain distancing measures but not legally enforce it?

Mass events (including indoor ones like gigs and theatres) are going to be the struggle. Especially with Useless Dowden’s lack of interest/understanding in anything except the Royal Albert Hall.

In connection to this I was in Bath on Sunday and although incredibly busy one thing which stuck out was the amount of pubs / restaurants which had tables & chairs on the pavement. The council had also pedestrianised parts of the centre which weren't previously to accommodate this sort of thing.

With the nice weather there was a very cool vibe around.

Assuming this is happening in city centres etc. all over the UK, do we think councils / government will keep this going for the foreseeable or will it end as of the next step in the guidelines where these places can welcome people indoors?

Personally I hope it stays throughout the summer (and returns in future years)

Very much in the younger age bracket but have just booked my vaccine appointment early due to health conditions of someone in my family. It's all starting to feel real now!

Great news.

This has just reminded me I received an email last night saying I'd be called this week as I'd been accepted in to the Valneva vaccine trial which gives you a 2/3 chance of getting that one and 1/3 chance of getting the AZ vaccine.

I mentioned this to my Wife who was dead set against me taking part...

It looks as though I could be paid up to £600 over the course of the trial which she seems to think is danger money 😂

She’s wrong. Gone are the days you can be compensated based on risk for trials like these (although that did used to be the case). Now it’s a combination of inconvenience and invasive procedure.

Hopefully! There was a video going round of a wheelchair user struggling to get through all these outdoor chairs and tables. Let’s hope companies take note of these accessibility issues.

I guess the answer for this is a common sense approach and pedestrianising these city centre locations where possible.

I'd like to think that councils will engage with the local disabled communities in order to find a workable solution for everyone but the cynic in me can't see that happening.

Over here hospitality venues have been allowed to expand into outdoor areas but they’re more likely to take up parking spaces than pavements. It’s very much dependent on specific environments but it’s generally worked well.

All being well the bank holiday "bounce" is seen here and yet still gives us a decrease (albeit v small) in both case numbers and deaths compared to last week. Good news I'd say?

Are you sure that’s not a misquote? Surely he means 70% of Americans will probably have been shot at by the 4th of July?

Also why do Americans use the backwards date format for 364 days a year but choose the right format for the day when we celebrate getting rid of the colonists?

Vaccination rates are slowing so this is the attempt to try to get more people to get it and reach that goal. Major Pharmacy chains here are now accepting walk ups to get the vaccine so thats one way to stop all the bs when trying to get online and book. Cities and counties are also opening up appointments too.

And we have always been a backwards country, its what we're good at.

I get not allowing unvaccinated people in at all, and I get making people get a test before going in. I like that they're not going full vaccine passport at this point but is it really a good idea for society in general to be pushing that vaccinated people are under such a threat that segregation is needed like this insinuates? Or are they genuinely worried about the unvaccinated? Because I find that hard to believe!

Forum favourites Independent Sage quite rightly taking a battering from all angles in regards to their fictitious video. Are we now all united in our disdain for them or do some remain unconvinced?

Will we start seeing signs on buses and in bars saying vaccinated only?

Probs take some flack for this but a few people on here are in the indy sage camp of almost seeming to want to live under restrictions as long as possible and avoid going back to normal. And i don't just mean for scientific reasons.

Just done my fourth volunteering shift after not managing to get any in April. Was the quietest yet due to a bit of a drop in supply at my particular centre, but they were taking some walk-ins for over-40s as well as appointments, which I hadn't seen there before. Nice to get back out there and see it all happening!

Yes, and I think it's important to treat that as a health/mental health issue rather than sneering and being all "lol what a bunch of weirdos wanting to stay indoors" which the forum and social media in general often veers towards.

It's unhealthy to be so isolated and hermetic for so long, and the combination of WFH + lockdown + anxiety/media fear has made a lot of people not want to know any different, and would feel perfectly safe living like this forever. It has proper mental and physical impact, and if there's people on this forum feeling like that then – multiply by the amount of people in the country – there's going to be huge fallout from this over the coming year. Some people are going to freak out trying to assimilate back, and some will just double down and seal themselves off even more.

The government should be throwing money at MH support coming out of this pandemic because we're going to need it.

good response to a typically shitty little bully post from my man fray.

I wasn't trying to sneer it was more an observation. And yes too right the pandemic has brought up MH issues which need properly funded.

The answer to any of it isn't to prolong this pish a second longer than it needs to be. It is to open things up and for people to gradually (if they want) get back out there.
