@gizmoman im confused .... whilst I absolutely understand that things need to be questioned , at what point do you decide that actually that questioning has achieved the desired result ? .... you have been asking questions of Toilet Duck all though the thread , as have many of us,  But you  dont ever seem to have got a result from which you are happy before pursuing the next item on the agenda which would fall under a similar umbrella ...  at what point do you think that your questioning of things might cause someone to make a decision that could have life changing consequences ... so for example someone not choosing to take a vaccine based on something that has been found from the depths of the internet ? questions show intelligence but so does learning and accepting the answers . Im trying here to understand but cant imagine how id struggle with questioning just about everything ....

It's somewhat interesting that before you've pushed before the idea that governments are using fear around the virus to keep us locked-down where possible, and monitored where not. While I think that's nonsense, if there were such a conspiracy, I would say the scientist advocating "stop vaccinating people right now" would be at the forefront of it. Given that if he got his way we'd be back in lockdown again for the foreseeable future.

Well we are still in lockdown and are being told we will have restrictions for the forseeable future and that is with the vaccines. Lockdowns are not inevitable they are a choice, we could go back to a normal life now and shield the vunerable until they had been vaccinated but that doesn't seem to be an option being considered.

If this guy is right and we do see a massive jump in cases in the next few weeks then we will certainly remain under severe restrictions as the NHS will come under pressure. I hope he's wrong of course and we do rapidly return to normal but since the Welsh first minister says we will still have restrictions for the rest of the year I have to ask how does he know what the situation will be in 9 months time? He either has a crystal ball or they are following a long term plan.

It's true I'm still not happy that this situation is as presented, I still believe we are being deliberately manipulated, I've said before I think the vaccines are safe, but that doesn't mean they are needed for everyone in society, kids for example. Early in this thread I posted links to youtube videos that could be seen as conspiracy theory but since then I've been careful to only link to scientifically valid questioning, I seriously doubt that anyone on here has been influenced much by my posts but I take your point and I'll take a break, for a while at least. (I know I've said this before but this thread gets weirdly addictive!).

by no means im not saying people should not post this thread is about learning for all of us ... completely new stuff ... but it is about appreciating that what we post can be seen by lots of people and decisions will and can be made from what is shared 🙂

The majority of scientists are saying there's no evidence (or not enough) that Vitamin D helps protect against Covid, a small number believe it does, on this one I'm going with the minority not because I'm a contrarian but because even if they are wrong there is no risk in taking Vit D supplements. In your example I wouldn't take it as the risk would far outweigh the benefit, even if I caught Covid there is a very good chance I would be minimally affected.

But to contain it you need to have the vaccine as the evidence shows that it limits transmission. The issue is that you cant be let a small group not take it because its never a small group. It puts themselves and other people at risk. Theres a reason why diseases such as measles are having outbreaks. It starts out small but more and more people don't vaccinate because they are either lazy or stupid. Im totally for a vaccine passport. Its your choice not to take it but if a business/ travel/ Glastonbury say you need it, then tough.

"do you actually understand the science? " Do any of us? (Toilet Duck excepted), that is part of the problem, it is very difficult for a layman to read a complex scientific paper and decide if it is valid so we are left with the views of experts, and they have differing views, you can choose to trust the consensus but the majority are not always right.

You making my point here. We don't understand the science so I rely on the experts. The majority isn't always right isn't an argument. Flat earthers follows the same logic. The VAST majority of scientist agree that the people should take the vaccine. They are more likely right than wrong. This is the focus of 10,00s of medical experts.

To be honest, the scenario presented by Dr Bossche is one that actually drives the necessity to vaccinate kids even more so. I too don’t know what happens when we make this a disease of early childhood. The hope is that kids continue to experience mild or no symptoms, but it’s as big or bigger an unknown than the hypothesis he is putting forward, and one we actually will have to deal with. My own daughter has had all her shots (apart from BCG as there none of it to be had!), but even someone as pro-vaccination as me would still question giving an emergency use vaccine to her if the risks from the natural infection were exceptionally small. Long Covid in kids is something I worry about and there are many valid unanswered questions that we need to get clarity on. So we don’t really know what the risks are of not vaccinating kids (as much as we still don’t have data on how safe it is to vaccinate them, though that’s on the way). I’m not an outlier among my peers in wondering about these things and thankfully they are all being looked at, but it’s entirely ok to ask the question. The grain of comfort you can take from Dr Bossche’s hypothesis is that it is really only concerned with transmission, even if he turns out to be correct, there’s no reason why a vaccine evading virus would necessarily be more virulent and cause more severe disease. In fact, it’s better for the virus if it doesn’t (incapacitated hosts aren’t great at helping you find a new one). So, selective pressure and viral evolution works the other way too.

    • I'm inclined to agree, but if GC sell out the dates they have in Nov, I'm not sure they'd settle for 3rd down is my feeling
