My mum (53) has been invited for the vaccine on Tuesday. She has already had COVID (about 2 months ago) but still great news and shows just how well the roll-out is going if they are down to the lower end of the 50s. I live in Torbay for what it is worth.

My wife who is 50 been offered hers today and we live in Torbay too 😁

I'm sure it won't be helping newly  self employed people in the 19/20 tax year despite the deadline for their tax returns for that year passing end of this month. He seems to hate us self employed

I hear ya.

I was newly self employed in 2018/19 tax year, but as a start up I didn't have the 50% of earnings that year. Had a full year in 2019/20 which obviously didn't count for SEISS, hoping that might change come the budget though, especially now if it's to be extended 6 months. But it will be tapered at a higher rate than CJRS as it was last year too!

So whilst the UK Government forgot about those in that situation, the Scottish Government this week launched their 2nd grant for the newly self employed.

Not sure they’ll go back to tiers, or at least I hope they don’t. Did they even work well when they were introduced? I assume not because the Liverpool City Region went from the lowest tier in the country to one of the worst in a matter of weeks.

It's worth noting that Liverpool was an outlier amongst a bunch of higher tiers, so there was a lot of completely irresponsible 'covid tourism' that saw people from higher tiers (and even as far as London) go up for visits, hotel stays, restaurant meals, nights out. It was a huge error keeping it in a lower tier and letting people flood in.

I wonder if we'll go into tiers...up north cases now higher than down south...bit like after the first lockdown.

Just been sent this briefing re this which might clarify the way we are going:

Lifting lockdown latest
It is anticipated the Government might start asking questions about local outbreak arrangements as expectation mounts that England will start to emerge out of national lockdown restrictions from next month.

******* understands there is an expectation that each area will have recently reviewed and/or is currently reviewing its local outbreak management plans. This should be done with your regional Contain teams to ensure learnings are captured and that there has been some thinking about what happens should a Variant of Concern or Variant Under Investigation be found in your area.

The refreshed plans will be a useful means to demonstrate the capability of local government to lead locally as well as setting out the help and support you might need from Government under certain scenarios.

The Prime Minister’s ‘Roadmap to Recovery’ from lockdown, which is due to be unveiled on Monday, is likely to be light on detail, ***** understands.

As has been reported in the national media there is an expectation that the country will not return to the tiering system and instead ‘move as one’ with plans for a much slower, phased reopening sector-by-sector starting with schools – possibly from 8 March.

Police forces have reported an increase in large illegal lockdown parties in recent weeks, as streams of reports from members of the public expose popup events organised in secret via social media.

“We’re coming across bigger events at the moment,” said Stuart Bill, the bronze commander for Operation Reliant, a dedicated West Midlands police taskforce for tackling significant Covid breaches. “We’re seeing house parties and events in warehouses and derelict buildings, but finding them can be tricky.

“Organisers are sophisticated, they’re alive to the fact we will monitor social media, so [they promote] on closed platforms like Snapchat and WhatsApp. Most of our intelligence comes from the public.”

It's very good news, but I'm not a fan of the tone of a few posts making out that people who are focused on whether it stops transmissions or not and by how much are being stupid- My clients are people with cancer and the families of people with cancer- the transmission rates and odds of me catching covid and passing it on to them are very important to me when assessing how much exposure risk I can take in my day to day life, and what risk I pose to them.

It would be great if I didn't have to give a f*** (and I do hope we reach that point- all this risk calculation stresses me out!), and the more people get vaccinated the less risk is involved, but some of us are in situations where we have to be ultra cautious.

Dunno how you've taken that from what i said. I think that if you mix up 'doesn't stop transmission' with ' we don't know if it stops transmission' then thats a huge error and these people are stupid. And they also assert it on social media as if they're correct.

Reminds me of one of my favourite bits in Spaced

"I had to dress as an elderly Israeli woman once"

"Really?"

"I didn't have to"

Any Spaced reference is gonna get an automatic upvote from me

*THIS* is the key to controlled mass events like festivals re-opening.

For festivals it's perfect.

The cost of the event is already high so the extra test cost can be built into the pricing model.

It's quick.

It's reliable.

Some festivals in 2021 should now go ahead.

Stay how we are till mid April get cases as low as possible and vaccinations as high as possible then unlock

Usual tabloid leaks. with the thrilling prospect (according to The Sun) of being able at some point next March to visit the three remaining clothes retailers, so as to buy a lovely new outfit to sit in at home. Followed by meeting with one other household outside at Easter. I'm practically wetting myself with excitement.

Meanwhile, apparently overnight stays are off until June (if we're lucky - the Government will probably stall and string the suffering out beyond that.) Pubs by September? Any interesting cultural event April 2022?

and let's have ebery single child back in school and licking each others faces. What could go wrong?

    • Didn't stay up for the S Korea Czech game, but entertaining highlights. Lots of very good chances created by S Korea with poor finishing.    Czechs definitely more in that game than S Africa were against Mexico, but Mexico S Korea looks tasty in the next round for that group.
    • I thought the first was absolutely clear, and while I didn't like the 2nd from the 1st angle, once there was another angle showing it to clearly be an intentional slap I didn't have an issue.   3rd felt harsh to me though, cynical foul but I'm not sure that'd be a red in the CL by 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity'.
    • Gelli Haha and Ninajirachi were two of my highlights in Barcelona, so that must have been an insane couple of hours to enjoy!
    • looking for a ticket for today (friday the 12th); if anyone knows of anything... thx
    • Great! Weather was very hot during the day, almost unbearable in the afternoon, but it was nice that it was still warm at night. I watched Nation Of Language, Oklou, Ethel Cain, The xx, Gelli Haha and Ninajirachi. All of them were excellent! Heard good things about the Kneecap show too.
