Avalon_Fields
I’m surprised how few mentions the Pyramid Stage gets, not sure if that indicates we on efestivals have a more specialist taste in music or prefer the smaller stages or what? I’d hazard a guess the Pyramid is more popular with the general festival-goer

Spindles
I reckon you are right at that. First couple of festivals I saw most of my music at the Pyramid, last couple I've seen maybe one a day if that. There's something to be said for a Pyramid headliner a bit further up the hill behind the repeaters though, quite a spectacle at times. Last couple of times that Coldplay have headlined have been a great night out, despite it being an act whose music I'd never put on at home I've had the time of my idiot life with their light show. Hugh Jass
The Other is just an area to watch a band then get out. It’s not like the Park or West Holts for example where you could happily hang out for ages even if there was nothing on to see.

Was Copperdollar the cool bar where people could get their face painted in a coffin and there was an undertaker that would sneak up behind people and pretend to measure them? I've had years with friends where far too much time was spent within spitting distance of Mandela, but these days we go there when dictated by the holy clashfinder, but unlike many here I will happily go there if there's something on I fancy and indeed I've enjoyed stuff there every year. Nearly died (possibly) there a few years ago trying to get in to see Adele at the top entrance (above Nelson Mandela Bar). People were being crushed left right snd centre. I know they don't like cutting down trees but they really need to widen the entrances to the Pyramid field. Just plant some new trees somewhere else! It's more difficult to achieve but magical when you experience it.
Havors
Toughy... Best: The best times I had are at Avalon or Tipi village I think Worst: Not bad but the Glade really feels like something you walk through to get somewhere else.. Upside down frowner
Best- Block 9. Love dance music, especially techno and house. The settings, lighting and atmosphere is tops. Unlike many festivals that are just tents. I could expand bestbto the whole of the SEC. Worst- Other stage, not terrible but the sound can be poor depending where you stand. Compared to the Pyramid where the speakers are good even near the back imo. However the Chemical Brothers on there 2015 was ace. Silver Hayes is weird, the Blues is good to look at and be in the middle of- the acts 2017 on Thursday were good. WOW gets too busy but the boat is ok, the rest feels like a walk through full of scatty people (me included at times). Sonic is a poor design and glad they’re updating it. no other festival I’d rather be at though!
foolee
To everyone slating Silver Hayes, I have never been to Glasto and 2019 is my first year so looking at making it one to remember. I was originally looking to camp in Darble as I am getting the coach, would this mean that to go anywhere or back to camp I'd have to walk through Silver Hayes (Not particularly into dance music and I'd rather not make my trip unpleasant). If someone can put me at ease or suggest the best camping spots for coach festival goers that'd be ace.
Penrhos
Best : SE corner before the main stages close. Worst : SE corner after the main stages close. Silver hayes and the Other need a total revamp - The other could be at V, TITP or any other bland festival and SH is soulless. IMHO they should replace Sonic with TiTP's King Tut's tent and while they're at it put that mesh groundsheet down inside so sweeping up the NOS bottles is easier. I wouldn't worry about it too much - I camp in Bushy and we usually walk back through Silver Hayes, but it's really not that bad. It only gets very crowded down there when there's a big act (Fatboy Slim for example). I just don't hang out there much, but as walkthrough I wouldn't let it put you off. I've camped in Darble and it's fine, but if you can handle walking a little bit further (my fave Bushy or Pylon) then you'll make that late night walk a bit shorter). All the campsites up that end are nice and quiet and not too far to carry stuff from the coach. We travel by coach, don't spend much time in SH and are very happy with Bushy. It's not unpleasant to walk through, you wont get stabbed or mugged.. - it's not on the same scale of awesome as the rest of the site. It can be pretty unpleasant when the weather is bad. The mud gets pretty bad and I’ve seen plenty of pushing, shoving and general aggression as people try to cut through. calamitymaud
This will be my 6th Glastonbury and i've hardly spent any time at all at the Avalon Stage/Field. Every year there's been some newbies in our cohort and they inevitably want to gravitate towards the 'main' stages. Always felt i've had a responsibility to show them the best of the festival but also let them find their own way through it. However judging by this thread I should absolutely should be spending more time there! So I definitely will do so this year. What is it that makes it so great? The lineup is usually very fun, but there has to be more to it than that? Anyway, for me: Best : Park - not the best stage but my favourite area by far. Worst : Silver Hayes... yep. scaryclaireyfairy
There's a definite weird energy suck in that valley bit of Silver Hayes and Other. Maybe some hippies need to bury some crystals around there or something.
Avalon_Fields
Poor unloved Silver Hayes! Hopefully the newly combined Blues & Gulley adds some verve to the area, I’ll certainly check it out. Whats the Pussy Parlour like now? Last time I was in it was it’s first year I think. The whole think could do with looking fun, it’s mainly just unexciting tents

Other than it does feel like a through route rather than a destination, it’s fine. The main downside to exiting Pylon/Darble through there is the slope after you cross the bridge, which can get very slippery in the wet. You can easily exit Darble from the top though, past JP and down to the Pyramid, thus avoiding the SH should you really feel the need.
