Would anyone be so kind and explain what it means to be a gammon for those of us who are not native English speakers? I’m quite confused :D

It’s to do with having bigoted beliefs, normally impacted by patriotism, but it’s been hijacked by these losers who want to make people feel bad about the music they like.

It also appears to be used in place of Generation X, which btw is a cool as fuck name.

That's it ! We can't have a great name, let's take it away and replace it with something derogatory then use it to beat Gen X with when we don't agree with their choices/music.

I missed the Killers gig at Glastonbury for a bit of a closer-fuck of a reason....then me and two friends (who LOVE The Killers) got tickets to see them in Sheffield in December 2017. And OMG they were one of the most boring acts I've ever seen. Maybe I expected too much after hearing how amazing they'd been on the JP. At the end, my massive-Killer's-fan friend turned to me and said, "rather unbelievably, Blink 182 were WAY better".....

Daft Punk though I'm 100% down with. And as they are also a "couple of guys", we basically have info on them already ?

I skipped the secret set because I gave 0 fucks if I saw the Killers. I had 0 regrets about that (and still do).

So when I saw them in September they were headlining a fest in BC and I had 0 expectations and it tuned out to be a massive party.

Daft Punk is the only possible thing that could take away the fresh sting of no Macca for me. Imagine if they pulled that off.

My ears are stilling ringing from how loud the crowd was during The Killers' secret set (especially Mr. Brightside).

I think if The Strokes were to be announced it would be like when Kasabian was announced in 2014. People here would shit their britches, but in the end they'd get the biggest and most liveliest crowd.

I can guarantee The Strokes would not get the biggest or livelist crowd of the day let alone of the 3 headliners.

But the difference is that Kasabian have quite a lot of big tunes. The Strokes would have to play Last Nite on repeat for two hours... ?

Honestly out of the 3 I'll probably see the Strokes. It has nothing to do with them and but more so them being the final headliner without any "wow" headliner I'm dying to see. If there were no contenders for he 3rd spot I'd actually be happy about the strokes because I would still have Macca hope in my heart.

New York City Cops always goes down tremendously well at Strokes shows!

How could I have forgotten that. They’ve definitely got a strong back catalogue. And Albert Hammond jnr is an amazing guitarist. I’d be happy with all the strokes side projects also appearing.

Fighting the strokes corner hard over hear.

Meh, people on here said the same thing about Kasabian, and they got, as The Guardian wrote, the "the most vociferous reaction of any of this year’s Pyramid stage headliners". A live show with The Strokes lets you go crazy to some of the best rock songs of the last 20 years. That's what most people want at a festival.

If we’re going with The Strokes headlining then surely 2019 will be the emptiest the Pyramid field has been come headliner time across all three nights by quite a margin (by the end of each headliners set, at least). No big marquee name. Nothing much for the TV audience back home. Not a whole lot to get people talking outside of ‘is Stormzy really big enough for this?’.

Mentioned The Strokes as a potential pyramid headliner to the mrs last night and she laughed at me. I then played her 5 or 6 songs on spotify and she knew them all and liked them but didn't realise that was them. However they were all from 2001 or 2003, anything after that she didn't know and thought it was a bit meh. Barring those "core" songs a lot of festival goers wouldn't know that much of their catalogue and i'd bet a lot of them would be the same as my mrs and don't even know that it was The Strokes who did those songs that they did recognise.

So i'd think they would get a poor crowd, i'd say even Stormzy would get a better crowd.

Tend to agree with this. I reckon I will be looking elsewhere rather than the pyramid in the evenings

I think one big difference between Kasabian and The Strokes is that Kasabian were at least near their peak when they headlined. Third and fourth albums had been recieved well and the fifth had just come out and was doing well. Theyd been touring extensively and people are generally pleased with their live shows, they also get a lot of play time on stuff like Sky Sports and had featured heavily on the 2012 Olympics.

In comparison The Strokes peak was probably fifteen years previous, there last two albums have mostly fell on deaf ears, they are noted for not playing great live shows nor really wanting to play together and have barely done anything of mainstream appeal from at least 2010ish.

Not that Im down on the Strokes but Kasabian went into theres on a much bigger wave of momentum than The Strokes would be.

    • Going with Oxfam.  Just booked my ferry today.  Looking forward!
    • The Radio Dept.?! That's a surprise to me, they haven't toured in like 8 years. Hopefully they will announce some more shows.
    • I was assuming September in Stirling might have a different issue tbf in the form of it just pissing it down.
    • Yeah so many of mine seem to be just France v Spain in one semi and England/Brazil v Argentina in the other. But the fact those combos are the obvious ones mean it feels unlikely that'll happen because in World Cup history, you very rarely end up with what pre-tournament looks like the obvious final 4. We all see teams outperform and underperform. Which one is the fall guy is a different matter.   I've said elsewhere that for me, there's a hierarchy of Spain, France and Argentina as the 3 strongest looking, then England and Portugal, then Brazil and Germany, but that overall, they'd be the 7 likeliest to win. So I dunno, maybe this will be the time the Netherlands avenge the failure of total football in 1974 and achieve what they couldn't achieve through whatever the f**k Nigel de Jong was with his 2010 final karate moves.
