Neil haven't had any confirmation on this Macca pull out.

got a mail back overnight from someone - someone who has *never* sent me wrong info over many years. He doesn't send much my way, but sends stuff every year, works somewhere in the music biz and while I've no idea how/where he gets his info he's very obviously well-placed.

He says he's heard nothing.

The who? Or is that a cheeky exception

(and don’t say that you considered the who because that’s cheating :P )

From what I can remember the who is the only headliner that has genuinely shocked me by coming out of nowhere

The Who were considered that year - and ruled out cos of their Paris gig.

Was that someone who previously told you Macca was headlining?

Thanks for sharing Neil!

Meaning it's still Macca?

The other person who posted in here saying they'd heard the same thing. And also someone on here who'd PM'd me stuff they've heard but doesn't want to post it publicly (I'm not gonna say who because obviously they don't want it posting everywhere).

That's two people in different places who've heard Macca has dropped out (one of them being in a band so obviously having some music industry connections, even if she hasn't got correct info through them), a poster from this site with proven decent info who'd heard someone else was headlining Saturday night, and Neil hearing Arctic Monkeys were approached to headline two weeks ago.

It's hardly mental to think that there could be something to all of that.

Sorry but not buying all this at all mate

more evidence/ people etc leaning torwards him playing than him not

Fair enough, I'm not saying you should buy it, I'm just not discounting it personally. I'm probably 50/50 on it atm.

Fwiw I hope he isn't out. I don't really care myself but obviously a lot of people want him to be there, so I hope he is (unless his replacement is Kendrick).

If it does end up Stormzy Macca Cure that would be ok for me.... all three fit into the “wouldn’t mind seeing, but could miss for something else without losing too much sleep” category. Ive only been to a few festivals, and have yet to see headliners at The Park or John Peel.... so Billy Bragg Friday in Leftfield, Park / John Peel Sat and Sunday works for me, with Macca Cure as back up if I don’t fancy what’s elsewhere. Now who would fit the bill as ideal Park / John Peel headliners for me? Not sure.... are Chvrches big enough to headline John Peel? Saw them on other 2016 but sound was poor, as was crowd... in fact I’m struggling to think of an act I really enjoyed at Other stage. Pretenders 2017 probably closest. As for the Park, I thought Angel Olsen was terrific there, but don’t think she’s considered “big enough to headline” (beginning to hate that phrase on here). Goldfrapp maybe.... made the stupid decision to miss most of their 2017 John Peel set as they came on really late after Killers.... went to see Emile Sande instead... she was very disappointing. Any ideas?

Keenly anticipating other efest users ideas of what fits into my taste in music.... what could go wrong.....

I'd probably say  Chvrches are big enough to headline the Other, almost seem to big for John Peel

    • Very quiet in here at the moment.....again.   I hate this time as other festivals start and we see who Sziget should've booked 🤣   The Cure knocking it out of the park once again at Primavera showed that they have fans of all ages and, even if it's felt they don't represent the direction Sziget is going in, they would've been a huge draw.   Ditto The XX, who I've never been a massive fan of tbh, but put me in my place at Primavera with a cracking set.
    • Ballots for BST and Roundhay dates on TfG
    • Yeah, I feel like people are really overlooking just how fantastic Simple Minds are. ABC have a classic 80s new wave album behind them as well.   That being said, yeah it's not worth travelling for. But it's a lineup I would be happy with if it were local to me
    • On the Wet Leg crowd - the opening day always has the worst crowd of the festival. A lot of locals show up purely because it's a cheap evening, often with not much interest in the acts performing, so, while the talking is an issue throughout the festival (and increasingly at gigs/fests everywhere) it's particularly rough on the Wednesday every year. I'll only bother next year if I really like the act playing.  The wristband is basically a souvenir these days, which I like, as I keep them. Also I guess for the festival it's kind of cheap advertising as people walk around the city with them on.
