Whether he headlines or not, all this talk of my arch nemesis Paul McCartney headlining has allowed me the time and incentive to go back through my half listened to Beatles albums (bought some 20 years ago and dismissed!) and appreciate them a lot more- never got through 'the White album' in it's entirety before, but now find it very enjoyable. Also hadn't really paid attention to this song before:

It's an efestival's thread success story!

Also newly like this one now too:

I'm not sure there's really such a thing as a Beatles "deep cut", but this is one of their more underappreciated songs:

Edit: I know that's a Lennon tune too. But John was better, wasn't he?

Wonder if Bon Iver would agree to that slot? They seem to be chasing headline slots at the mo, but I'd argue subbing Macca is a bigger deal than headlining the Other, or indeed headlining most other festivals in the UK.

Stormzy > Liam

The Cure > LDR

Macca > Bon Iver

Image result for make it so

Only Macca didn't write it, Lennon did and it was credited to Lennon and McCartney.

He didn't write that one either, it was an old Lennon song and Macca added one chorus, again it was jointly credited.

I'll probably see him, hubby would like to, and in his defence he's probably the best Beatles songwriter still alive and probably the best Beatles singer still alive. That last bit was a guess, I haven't heard Ringo sing since yellow submarine.

I know they're mainly Lennon songs, I said in an earlier post that I prefer Lennon's songs, and it inspired me to check that's still the case--it is indeed! but I discovered some more Lennon songs that had passed me by

Thought as much. Just still seeing his name get mentioned a lot and it's the hope that kills ya.

Coachella should be the first to announce him, very early January. There won’t be long to wait after that to find out if he’s doing more shows. If he’s not retiring after Coachella then I think he’s not only fair game, but there being rumours despite this retirement talk would make me think he’s pretty likely.

It is a damn fine tune.  Love it.

I'll give Paul this - his contributions to the other Beatles songs were the most valuable. The way he would use the bass to fill in little gaps was brilliant. Hey Bulldog and Come Together most notably.

John a fearless figurehead of the 1960s but Paul ten times the musician/songwriter. John ran out of steam in 1966.

it's defo not echo chamber from here, but it might be old, or just wrong industry gossip.

However, this source is defo a better placed source than twitter woman is. That doesn't mean twitter woman is wrong and this source is right, but if I had to make a guess and go with one of them, I'd very definitely go with what my source is saying.

---

PS: twitter woman's unexpected solo act: Cliff Richard? :P

IF the announcement of Stormzy told us anything its that the drip feed and industry intel is most likely correct and that the Macca /Cure forecast is correct

Tbh I dunno how much I buy Don Glover's talk of hanging up the Gambino thing quite so soon. Seems to me that was something he started saying before he broke through to super-zeitgeist relevance with This Is America but after that there's got to be a little more steam left in it. He's been going on about retiring at since like 2015, and there's at least another album to come, so I wouldn't be too concerned about him being done by June next year. Doesn't necessarily mean he'll play, mind.

I also think him retiring the moniker probably doesn't mean him retiring the songs/playing live.

Harsh enough. Johns work post 66 includes A Day in the Life, I Am The Walrus, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, All You Need is Love, Revolution, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Don't Let Me Down, Dear Prudence, Come Together, I Want You Shes So Heavy, Working Class Hero, Cold Turkey, Imagine, Jealous Guy, Instant Karma, Gimme Some Truth, How Do You Sleep, Love, God, Julia, Glass Onion....... Bungalow Bill.

Most of his best work. He was on fire from A Hard Days Night through to Revolver though granted. Relentless stuff.

    • Have a great festival to those that are going, I cant wait to get there tomorrow!
    • ah i get ya.. Yeah I hate festivals that have that barrier and front section. Roskilde is gonna be the same, which I'm not looking forward to navigating. Like you say, you end up missing other stuff having to get there dead early. Luckily there's not much we're arsed about on at Roskilde though so that wont be such an issue! hahaha
    • Not directly my expectation but my wishlist   - car seat headrest (it has been way too long these guys did Europe) - death cab for cutie - new constellations - interpol - bush - swimschool - suede - the haunted youth (should have been there this year) - flipturn   and oh yes Yumi Zouma can come any week, day, hour but this is a personal fetish with this band

    • Broco have European dates in Czechia and Slovenia the day before and after so I would be shocked if it were them, despite them having no other UK festival presence this summer.   Bilmuri are a shout as I don't think it'll be someone massive.
