Its.... in Memphis. The regionality of the u.s plays a big part in how certain lineups come together. This hits the right spot for the city pretty much.

Sure - I saw that Iowa had one with surprisingly larger acts than you might expect that you posted the other day. But it makes sense acts are hitting up a lot of festivals around the gaff.

Agreed. It’s just not Queen, it’s almost a tribute act.

I've seen Queen live numerous times with a number of singers, including 3 times with Freddie. Obviously you'll never bring back those glory days, and it's a shame that Queen, as was, never graced the Pyramid. That said, the current iteration of the band is as close to a replication of a Queen gig of old as you're going to get, much more so IMHO than when Paul Rodgers got the job. Yes, they are effectively their own tribute act, but no more so than a lot of acts that have kept going despite big line-up changes. And it's one of the few remaining big British acts that have never really been represented on the farm

Bri has also just had a stroke. Dunno if I would bet huge amounts on him doing big live engagements again.

Yeah I've also heard of those unfortunate events. His wife has said he's improving, which is a positive sign, but it's a long way to from that to feeling fit enough to tour.

Re: The 1975 (only just caught up on the last dozen or so pages)

I've mentioned on here a couple of times in the past that my uncle, who is as close to to the Healey family as it's possible to get without being a blood relative, casually dropped into conversation with me at a family get together in December 2019 that The 1975 has been asked to headline in 2021.

He is someone that doesn't understand how big a deal it is to leak info such as this, and only mentioned it to me as he knew I was a regular Glasto attendee. Obviously with both 2020 and 2021 being cancelled this didn't happen but, I'm sure there must be an element of honouring that initial offer with them rumoured to be headlining this year. Especially given they toured the arse off their most recent album in the UK including x2 nights at the O2 in January 2023, a huge Finsbury Park show that same summer, followed by 4 more O2 shows in Feb 2024. And that's just London. By any stretch of the imagination they are bigger than they were when they got that initial offer and are big enough to headline now. Especially when you consider the multiple R&L headline shows in quick succession.

I went to see their Finsbury Park show and even though I've always thought Matt Healey is a prize bellend, that show was a two hour masterclass in stadium indie-pop.

The crowd was a really eclectic mix, from screaming teenage girls all the way up to couples in their 50s. For example I was there (43yrs old) with my 16yr old son and 4 of his female friends, along with my mate the same age as me who went in blind not knowing a single song, and traditionally only listens to classic rock and metal. He absolutely loved every minute of it.

The only thing I find strange is the timing of it, considering they've only just wrapped up a mammoth 2 year world tour less that a year ago. I would have thought that it would have been a far more viable option when they are back with a new album ready to go (which might still happen between now and June) but with no other festival appearances rumoured, and no sign of new music at all, the timing of them headlining Glasto just seems off.

(Cue them announcing a new single and album to be released in September!)

I think the easiest way to rank artists by comparable size is to ask me. So Queen are dreadful bollocks that nobody beyond the age of twelve should be listening to, Taylor Swift is a load of old toot, and Cattle Decapitation are woefully underestimated by today's record buying public. More soon 👍

The Balti Scale... The Pie League... The Balti Pie-Chart!

As good of a measure as any other. 🤷‍♂️🙈

the Iowa  fest is also playing off of being the same weekend as Lollapalooza so they have a much larger pool of avails at their disposal.

You lucky lucky person 🙂

Yeah, that would have been the pinnacle. I saw em with Paul Rodgers who is way better than Adam Lambert as a sound alike so imo the better gig for someone who wants them to sound like OG Queen, and that was epic...but Freddie man. Greatest rock vocalist ever? In a small conversation, that's for sure.

Dispatch all eFestivals Uncles to discover.

The S*n suggesting new music was incoming this year makes me think they are active. Will be curious to see who they've roped in to help. Wasn't fully convinced on Jack Antanoff's production on a few tracks last time out, but Warren Ellis was a welcome surprise.

They cut the last record at Peter Gabriel's gaff too, didn't they?

I'm not sure many festivals would choose such a trio but... eh. It's in keeping with the everything everywhere all at once vibe of a lot of festivals these days.

Didn't realise anderson paak was that big, wow

Aged 16 having a dad who can get people i assume free tickets for the 1975 must be worth a few social points!!

Re your last paragraph, they come and go all the time. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if they did it as a full one one-off.

Congrats.

I saw them 2 nights in a row in December 1975 at the Glasgow Apollo, when Bohemian Rhapsody was first at #1. Definitely one of the best bands I'd seen at that time.

I've had zero interest in seeing them for many years. I love Paul Rodgers (with Free), but for most bands I loved I'm not that enthusiastic to see them again without a crucial band member (There are exceptions I admit).

On a similar theme, this week's press release on the upcoming Lynyrd Skynyrd tour made me laugh, it mentions all the band members from the original line up (all dead) before listing the current band (all 9 of them).

    • I also dont think Deftones will tour next year.   But I think RIP will have both Foos and Blink and if SOAD fo festivals that will be your 3.
    • Bearing in mind the Maiden point could just be nothing. They should also get Sabaton on second bit if i was them with their stage show I wouldn't take it. It would have to be headline due to how Download program and they won't
    • Nothing wrong about the lineup, which has been great over the last few years. But it just doesn't balance out my experience anymore.   Also, there seems to be a shift in the festival to cater towards US clients? This year felt like a 'cool' version of Coachella for some reason but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.   Maybe I'm just getting old.    Many locals get in for free either via friends of the organisation or just plainly using the QR codes multiple times. I had a chat with many of them over the weekend. They told me it is a 'thing' among locals. You just don't pay Primavera Sound
    • I'm not a Bond fan or anything, just a fella who will happily sit and watch a Bond film - so from that perspective I will say that Brosnan is my favourite, I really love all the ones he has done and can quite happily watch them over and over.   favourite individual film tho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.   absolutely hate the Dalton ones - I used to think it was just the way he chose to play the character, for some reason he thought Bond should be a thoroughly unlikable person. but actually, Dalton plays this exact same character in every single thing I have ever seem him in... so I think he is either just a properly sh*t actor, or maybe he himself is just a thoroughly unlikable person.   dont really have any interest in any future ones tho... didnt really like the Craig ones.
