Who do we think will be subbing Daphne and Celeste on the Friday night?

I'm thinking run of pulp>Sam fender > D&C would work...

Ok... Gonna give this schtick a rest... Soon.

I think...

At least D&C will avoid getting piss bottles and we therefore won't be partying like it's 1999... plus one.

The 1975 haven’t had a top 10 single? Wow that really surprises me as they get a lot of radio play

Yeah but the charts seem to be based primarily on Spotify playlists now and that tends to lend itself to just whatever's viral as an Insta story/TikTok trend now.

I’m not up to spreed with the last couple of pages, but is it a possibility that Michael Stipe would be there in any capacity?  Would be the dream

Apologies for getting your hopes up...no suggestion at all that Michael might make an appearance...we just went down a bit of an R.E.M. rabbit hole after @Superscally casually and shockingly revealed that he couldn't have been arsed about them in 1999 and walked away a big fan after seeing them! 😁

Somehow a tiny fest in Iowa can afford Tyler and Lana...

Based on this lineup i'd guess they did quite well last year! Noah Kahan and Hozier probably were got on the cheap and shifted tons of tickets - and just spotted Chappell Roan there too!

In this individualistic climate where guitar bands are a rarity and the industry is focused on solo artists, you would think the idea of a British guitar band headlining Glastonbury for the first time in their career would be more welcome, whether you like The 1975 or not 🙂

That truly is shocking behaviour! 😃

One of my big regrets that I never got to see them live 😥

When did guitar bands become a rarity?

Thanks for digging that article out!

If objectively looking at The 1975's popularity (big outdoor shows, sold out arena tours, 4 x o2 sold out etc), can't think of another British band who'd be as deserving (again, looking through popularity lens) of a 1st time Pyramid headline slot. There aren't many contenders, a few bands from abroad potentially yes, but not from the UK.

Objectively, they're not a rarity. My local sweatboxes still seem to be filled by bands and there's even a few showcases for local bands, same as there ever was.

The rarity part is more that since some point in the early 2010s, there's not really been all that many guitar bands rise to headliner status in the way there were in the 90s & 00s. Sure, a couple have come through to be arena level, and a few have even gone to higher levels than that, but it's not to the same degree as what came before.

I meant in terms of rarity on the pyramid stage, in response to the original post, where they are continually present every year, if you include Macca.

I was talking about 1st time headlining British bands - not those who've headlined before or aren't British. Also was referring to bands that are known 1st and foremost as a group, not to solo artists with a backing band.

    • I also dont think Deftones will tour next year.   But I think RIP will have both Foos and Blink and if SOAD fo festivals that will be your 3.
    • Bearing in mind the Maiden point could just be nothing. They should also get Sabaton on second bit if i was them with their stage show I wouldn't take it. It would have to be headline due to how Download program and they won't
    • Nothing wrong about the lineup, which has been great over the last few years. But it just doesn't balance out my experience anymore.   Also, there seems to be a shift in the festival to cater towards US clients? This year felt like a 'cool' version of Coachella for some reason but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.   Maybe I'm just getting old.    Many locals get in for free either via friends of the organisation or just plainly using the QR codes multiple times. I had a chat with many of them over the weekend. They told me it is a 'thing' among locals. You just don't pay Primavera Sound
    • I'm not a Bond fan or anything, just a fella who will happily sit and watch a Bond film - so from that perspective I will say that Brosnan is my favourite, I really love all the ones he has done and can quite happily watch them over and over.   favourite individual film tho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.   absolutely hate the Dalton ones - I used to think it was just the way he chose to play the character, for some reason he thought Bond should be a thoroughly unlikable person. but actually, Dalton plays this exact same character in every single thing I have ever seem him in... so I think he is either just a properly sh*t actor, or maybe he himself is just a thoroughly unlikable person.   dont really have any interest in any future ones tho... didnt really like the Craig ones.
