Someone on the discord is saying that 1975 is out and Fender is back in?

I take it all with a pinch of salt until it comes from the festival.

I can’t see anything on the Discord apart from them discussing what was said on here. I’m still assuming 1975, to my displeasure.

The chat is still The 1975 and O rod. Obviously I have to caveat this by stating this is not confirmed until they literally step on the pyramid stage in June. Also, as ever, it is subject to change but that is where the reliable insiders are currently.

I don't think anyone here has said anything different, that was on the other place.

And there's no need to wait until they are on stage, just the annoucement!

Thanks very much.

Can get back to speculation on setlists, special guests, etc.

If it is indeed The 1975 and the other chat on a sixth record is true, then you'd imagine two things now:

1) The album is announced imminently and released in late spring, before the festival. Three or four new songs make the show.

OR

2) The album is announced in the spring and released midsummer, after the festival. One or two new songs make the show.

I'd probs prefer the latter tbh, I don't mind the 1975 but I wouldn't sit and listen to their full albums but do like a lot of their singles so the more of the ones I know the better personally and then a sprinkling of the best from their next album would be great.

Just had a look and it was JoeyT that posted it.  If my memory is correct he was considered in the know when he was on here but discord seem to think he's chatting breeze now?  Who knows.

Oh, not dissing Murmur at all, I love it too...just have Lifes Rich Pageant at the top, closely followed by Reckoning, New Adventures in Hifi, Green, Document and some days even Fables before it! (Driver 8 is one of the main reasons for that!). To be honest, apart from Around the Sun, I listen to all of them pretty regularly. Pablo Honey gets a bad rap, it's my wife's favourite Radiohead album so we listen to it a good bit!

LRP was the first of the IRS REM albums I had I think. Monster would have been the first at all.  Had the Best Of IRS Years compilation before any albums, so always had a preference for the earlier sound.

Driver 8 is a perfectly viable reason for liking anything.  I've got a similar thing with Fall on Me from LRP. Have you heard the Jason Isbell version from a couple of years back? Love this version

Probably coming in from left field here - but my fave REM album is New Adventures in Hifi, I also have a real love for Up & Monster  as my 2 and 3

They’ve all got some great songs. Always enjoyed their last tracks on albums such as Electrolite on New Adventures

I have indeed heard it, it's great. Love Jason (and Drive-By Truckers too)...He actually played this with Micheal last year (even though it's a dodgy phone recording, Michael still sounds great!).

They did have a thing for quality last tracks. Following up the double whammy of Man on the Moon and Nightswimming with the wildly underrated Find The River, for example

Seems so. I think it’s because it was just his friend who might be in the know as adamant that Fender was headlining and most obvious to drop out would be The 1975. A swap that would suit me fine TBH but doesn’t seem to be based on much.

After playing catch up I was just about to bring up that somehow nobody had mentioned Automatic For The People yet! I reckon that and Monster my two fave albums.

I’m not up to spreed with the last couple of pages, but is it a possibility that Michael Stipe would be there in any capacity?  Would be the dream

Just when I thought it couldn't be any worse... Going from a weak headliner to a completely irrelevant one.

Given how fast the music industry is moving, and if these turn out to be the actual headliners, GF will lose much of its relevance. On the bright side, getting tickets will become easier once again.

Don’t rely on it. One the greatest and most enduring myths regularly talked about on here is that Glastonbury attendance is affected by the line up.

Although I do agree that both The 1975 and Sam Fender as shockingly bad choices for headliners

in what was is Sam Fender 'irrelevant' ? I could understand if people viewed him as boring or whatever but irrelevant? How? What does that even mean in this context.

He subbed last time and had a huge crowd. Only on his 3rd album. He's extremely relevant.

Pretty sure he used to have a lot of decent info.

Sam Fender or The 1975 are much of a muchness, let's all hope there's a huge shock and Stevie Wonder comes to save the day.

Any one of: Beyoncé, Gaga, Eminem (but no Snoop after his latest shocker) Pink, Stevie Wonder would do nicely

There are worse places to be! I live near Bamberg, if you're bored and want to google the small city. It's very pretty. There's also a beer garden close to me where it cost €2.50 for a 0.5l beer last year. Maybe it's going up to €2.60 this year.

It's great for my wallet, not great for my waistline 😃

I've been. I can confirm it is indeed very pretty.

GF was able to book top 10 global artists 10-15 years ago without much effort. None of the mentioned headliners this year are in the top 50. Sam Fender is not even in the top 500. That's what I meant with irrelevant (which I agree is open to interpretation).

It is true that just one year of terrible headliners won't affect attendance. But give it a couple years with bad bookings and a fallow year and it could all change pretty quickly.

What metric are you using to denote this Top 500?

    • Considering how popular of a booking Scooter have been I think they'd go down well
    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
    • Did you camp or go for a hotel? I looked into it briefly and seems easy enough to get back to Nuremberg.
