Daphne and Celeste are now 8/11 on SkyBet.

Also, I think the consensus is still The 1975 somehow, and Olivia Rodrigo.

I'm very, very excited about some of the names banded about on the Stage Predictions thread, so I won't be too disheartened if I (for the first time in 7 Glasto's) don't see one Pyramid headliner, but I am a little disappointed for the 3 first timers who are coming with us this year. I know they won't be arsed about any of the "three". Which is a crying shame.

My first Glasto was 2024 and none of the Pyramid headliners appealed to me (Dua was closest, but I fancied IDLES a lot more; I despise Coldplay; I know nothing of and hold no interest in SZA), so I've not seen a Pyramid headliner yet. It in no way spoilt my first Glastonbury experience -- the whole point of it is that there's so much choice; you make your own festival.

I am hoping to see a Pyramid headliner this year because I think it would be another element to experience and also the current names in the ring are more attractive to me (I enjoy O-Rod a lot and saw her on the GUTS tour last year; I am a fan of a lot of The 1975's material; Neil Young is obviously legendary) -- but if there's better stuff on elsewhere then I'll just go elsewhere! Pyramid is in no way the be all and end all IMHO.

As in the famed borderline riot that happened during that set? That must've felt intense.

I was at Reading in 2000 when that set happened but wasn't at the main stage for it -- from what I heard about it from friends and fellow festival goers that day I still think that was a good decision. Call me traditional if you like, but I don't really enjoy bottles and cups of urine being thrown over me.

Having said that part of me feels like I missed out on a little piece of history.

So wait, a black artist decided to make 3 concept albums about music genres which are historically black and you think its careerist?  Shows you how ignorant your music knowledge is. House music is black music. Country music is black music. And the Blues is also black music.( thats album 3 )  Just cause you think Led Zeppelin and The Chemical Brothers are god's gift doesnt mean they didnt get influenced by the ones who started it. How the hell is somebody from Texas not growing up without country music in their house. The album cover for Cowboy Carter should explain all of this to you pretty clearly. But you know what, why would I think anyone would look past a few yourube clips they watch and say its not their thing.

I don't think she would've done a country album if there wasn't so much money in that market. She's a business as much as (or more than) a musical artist.

Yes sir! Was 17…it was full on. TBF they soldiered on while bottles of piss rained down on them.

Much to be said for glastos generally inclusive atmosphere

No it doesn't you grumpy git 😉

After you've been there sure, you get the joy of watching headliners elsewhere. But as a first timer it's entirely reasonable that you'd want to be excited about at least one act you want to see headlining the big one.

We've been often enough to be blasé about the pointy one, but when you first go it's absolutely something else.

Crikey.

I have seen footage and it did look pretty intense. It's certainly a contrast to now as I don't think Reading is necessarily a place where this would happen now based on my visit in 2017, let alone now. Although even then I remember Enter Shikari encouraging acts to throw bottles when I went there in 2011.

Corey Taylor and James Acaster talked about it on Off Menu during lockdown. Makes for a fascinating reading: Slipknot's Corey Taylor comforted Daphne & Celeste after infamous Reading bottling: "Hold your head high"

In 1999 Keanu Reeves played the Other stage, with his band Dogstar.  They were incessantly pelted with fruit for the entire set, with one particularly well targeted peach hitting his fretboard and creating an impressive sound.

It took him a couple of songs to get into it, and eventually just grinned at his bandmates and got on with things regardless.

The funniest thing I saw though, was this dude who had a carrier bag filled with baked beans that he tried to twirl round his head to launch at the stage and basically only succeeded in covering himself and those around him who hadn't cleared out of the way in beans.  When launched the bag travelled about 3 feet and landed in a soggy mess in front of him.

Reading sounded like a spectacularly more feral place in days of yore. I've heard of the deckchair being thrown at 50 Cent, for one.

Least Keanu was able to grin and bear it, although kinda wild this was in the year The Matrix came out given that part of his 1999 is recalled very well.

So, a bona-fide legend, arguably the hottest properties in pop back to back and even if it is the 1975, they're still one of the biggest and buzziest bands in Britain. It's a decent trio.

I was there for that. Keanu was great afterwards and spoke to fans for ages from behind the fence to the right facing side of the stage. Lovely bloke!

I was also at Reading for the Daphne and Celeste bottling. That was quite a spectacle!

Was there that year, The Rasmus got a similar showing.

It wasn’t even just a bottling for 50 Cent, it was deck chairs, turf, the lot. I’m sure at one stage G Unit even wheeled a trolley of Fantas onstage and started lobbing them back.

Got to be said you've got this massively wrong and it doesn't even need explaining.

Think your spot on. You don't need to be told what you need to like or want to see regardless of their status as a musical act.

Again, whatever his peoples are that are first timers has nothing to do with your interpretation of the trio of headliners if they aren't bothered about them. You can't spoonfeed interest. Personally it's also a bit of a dull trio with one that is massively phoned in.

On paper, it's a decent trio.  If you don't like them, its not.

It's not ignorance either - I know Neil Young well from my dad's music growing up, have seen 1975 before, listened to O-Rod a fair amount and I don't want to see any of them.

I don't think it says anything about me other than I don't like them!

It's all good though, other stages are available.

May be talking at cross purposes then, I thought you were criticising for being upset that they weren't going to get to see someone they're excited about headlining else pointo.

But I still disagree with your real point! 😂

Yes it's a decent lineup as a booking, but none of them excite me either. Happy enough for the fest to have booked them, but I'll not be making a beeline for any of them. Maybe Shakey, but none of them have me excited.

From what we can gleam, they’ve now had a couple of years where they haven’t been able to book the acts they most wanted, for various reasons (Taylor: fame and schedule; Madonna: cost; Stevie: health).

At the same time they’ve been fortunate enough to have landed on an incredible run of all-timers of Macca, Elton, and Coldplay (I’m not suggesting the ‘Play are in the same league but in terms of putting on a spectacle they’re about as good as it gets).

At some point availability and cost of huge names had to catch up with the festival. I respect that Neil Young has had a hell of a career but he still feels like a charitable booking for Michael. O-Rod ticks the boxes for rising pop act with momentum, and The 1975 seem decent enough for those who like them but aren’t realistically going to thrill most ticket holders in the run up.

All the usual caveats about number of other stages, strength of the undercard, etc. etc., but as a headliner trio - if all three rumoured acts do actually materialise - the festival is somewhat hobbling into the fallow, imo.

I think it’s too early to say that, or write it off based on our personal tastes… all 3 plus rod will be well received, if it’s them!

As for hobbling into the fallow, it’s all about the rest of it. The festival will mark it with some sort of spectacular, as is their style these days… they’ll have something up their sleeve.

Also, the rest of the fest seems on a good footing at the moment - Arcadia set for a special year 2 of the dragonfly, improved silver hayes and the levels, iicon, the big glade and the OG glade etc.

I'm very excited for this year, despite my lack of enthusiasm for the top 3.

    • As many said before, not my favourite Primavera. sh*tty weather is something I'm not really used to when enjoying music. Poor communication (more than 1 hour long radio silence during the worst rain) didn't help, but the main problem was me. I decided to leave the venue after things seemed to be getting back to normal. Massive Attack were supposed to play again (with Hymn of the Big Wheel back on the setlist!) as were all other artists on the smaller stages (including Fcukers with one my favourite albums of the year). FOMO was at an all-time high. However, after 4 hours in the rain, I had to admit to myself that I'm not cut out for this. I wasn't even that soaked (water-proof jacket worked). I was just fed up with the rain, wind and cold and wasn't able to enjoy music anymore.   Also, they should stop ignoring the growth of some artists between signing them up and their actual performance. Both PinkPantheress and Ninajirachi sets were ruined for me by completely inadequate stage choice.   However, I felt very much the same way after the 2022 edition and have thoroughly enjoyed all subsequent editions. So I'm still buying early bird tickets for 2027 and hoping this was a hiccup not the start of a downward trend.
    • I will definitely be buying a 2027 early bird pass, partially because of the priority reservation privileges for the Ciutat sets. Hopefully the organization will take action to improve upon this year's failings. Because I thought the free water options and sound quality were an improvement over last year, so clearly they can actually implement positive changes.   I also hope all the douchebag chompers get in the sea, cause I was more bothered by them than in the past few years.   Highlights: The Cure, Ninajirachi, Knocked Loose, Current 93, Blood Orange.
    • Similar feelings to a few others on here. Not my personal favourite edition but a long way from giving up on it. Felt overcrowded at times and there are just too many people there that don't seem to like music that much! Hardly went to main stages which was the plan. Highlights Ralphie Choo, rusowsky, Gorillaz, Geese, Gelli Haha, The Sophs, PinkPantheress, Dijon. Accommodation booked for next year. Thanks for your company and comments over the past year.
