So, a bona-fide legend, arguably the hottest properties in pop back to back and even if it is the 1975, they're still one of the biggest and buzziest bands in Britain. It's a decent trio.

Decent is a stretch. I'd like a little more than that for the Pyramid, personally. I'll possibly be watching O-Rod.

Our group of 30 have a giant range of music tastes. Plenty of use like artists who's career spans decades. Would have been ecstatic with Billy Joel, for example. Neil Young is incredibly boring and an even more boring headline choice, for me.

Let's not pretend the 1975 are a great choice either.

On paper, it's a decent trio.  If you don't like them, its not.

It's not ignorance either - I know Neil Young well from my dad's music growing up, have seen 1975 before, listened to O-Rod a fair amount and I don't want to see any of them.

I don't think it says anything about me other than I don't like them!

It's all good though, other stages are available.

Precisely.

all 3 plus rod will be well received, if it’s them!

No doubt about that, but aside from a true outlier, it’s not hard for any act to be well received because the Pyramid headliners will always attract a crowd. The battle for success doesn’t take place at Worthy Farm; it happens via public reception, television ratings, the following years’ ticket sales, and so on.

Luckily the festival has so much cultural stock banked that it’ll take more than the odd SZA or The 1975 to reverse public attitude or commercial success. But that doesn’t invalidate the argument that a perceived weaker set of headliners is more damaging for the festival than a strong one.

Got to be said you've got this massively wrong and it doesn't even need explaining.

Think your spot on. You don't need to be told what you need to like or want to see regardless of their status as a musical act.

Again, whatever his peoples are that are first timers has nothing to do with your interpretation of the trio of headliners if they aren't bothered about them. You can't spoonfeed interest. Personally it's also a bit of a dull trio with one that is massively phoned in.

Here he is... 🤫🥱

I think it’s too early to say that, or write it off based on our personal tastes… all 3 plus rod will be well received, if it’s them!

As for hobbling into the fallow, it’s all about the rest of it. The festival will mark it with some sort of spectacular, as is their style these days… they’ll have something up their sleeve.

Also, the rest of the fest seems on a good footing at the moment - Arcadia set for a special year 2 of the dragonfly, improved silver hayes and the levels, iicon, the big glade and the OG glade etc.

I'm very excited for this year, despite my lack of enthusiasm for the top 3.

The dance village and the extra access route by the market stalls and the glade are definitely the biggest improvements. The glade needs to bring that covered part out further though as outside of that it's an atmosphere killer.

You are right but we can't put The 1975 into the SZA bracket. I'm not even a fan really but they would certainly get a bigger crowd that she did. At the end of the day one of the most critically acclaimed headliners and talked about acts in the world in Kendrick didn't get the biggest crowd.

Neil Young boring & ecstatic with Billy Joel might be the funniest thing I've ever read on here 🤣

Most people agree completely with this scally, you're talking garbage and this is your usual response as your opinion is gospel. You've always been the same for the last 15 years on here.

People can like what they like and legends or whatever or not, if they don't won't mean anything to them.

So yes maybe you should....shhhh

I'm just surprised you haven't mentioned Kasabian.

I think it's a decent mix of heritage rock and newer acts.  Whilst it's true that there isn't an undisputed commercial megastar like a Macca or a Beyonce, I think the balance of styles is there and it's not appreciable weaker than some of the other recent-ish headline trios.  It's stronger than 2019 for instance.

May be talking at cross purposes then, I thought you were criticising for being upset that they weren't going to get to see someone they're excited about headlining else pointo.

But I still disagree with your real point! 😂

Yes it's a decent lineup as a booking, but none of them excite me either. Happy enough for the fest to have booked them, but I'll not be making a beeline for any of them. Maybe Shakey, but none of them have me excited.

Neither of you are moaning, which was the point I was trying to make...

It's going to be boss. By the way, for context, I'm not sure whether I'll be at the Pyramid for any, until the lineup is announced. It was the same last year and Elton year. It was only the McCartney year of the last few where I wasn't going to be anywhere else...

Also, @northernangel - you know I hardly post anything here with full seriousness, right? It's a forum, I treat it like a conversation in a pub between mates. If I've "been like that for 15 years", just wondering how you can tell, seeing as you've only been here since 23... Long time lurker, first time caller? 😘

Ah, but OP wasn't moaning chief! @Stokesy10 already said they wouldn't be disheartened by the headliners. And reasonable to want your first time mates to have someone that they'd be excited to see headlining the big one.

You should be happier after the weekend's footy results 😂

Stokesy wasn't, but I was alluding to the fact that the noobs don't have a clue what awaits them and I also bet there's a decent chance they'll see one of the headliners and be blown away by em. Perfect opportunity for a mega life experience. I wasn't arsed about REM in 99 but went along and metaphorically pooped my pants at how amazing they were.

Elephant in the room...you weren't excited by REM? Moving on.

All good points made and don't disagree with them. But they're also all a very different take to your "says more about them than the festival" line. Gonna go benefit of the doubt and say that one was just badly worded.

I write as I speak - if I'd have said that in the pub - you'd have either a) not batted an eyelid or b) got rapid clarification 😉

As for REM, was 20 at the time and Shiny Happy People had biased me against going deep. It was only my love of the Up album when it came out that got me in the same postcode...then...

Right, have people even listened to Joel's music outside of the big singalong hits? Lots of dated snoozers there that didn't stand the test of time.

Shiny Happy People was dreadful. For me REM only made one good album, their first. And for the record I have seen them, in Liverpool in the early 80’s

Yeah I get that, trouble with pub chat on a forum is it takes f**king ages 😂

As for REM, yeah SHP is pretty divisive. I think it was them going full on opposite direction for shits and giggles. Not my favourite, but hard not to sing along to tbh! I'm more a fan of their earlier stuff, but they're still a top all timer for me. Gutted I never saw them at G

What’s the latest hot favourites then?

Strong rumours coming through for The KLF, alongside The 1975 and another band beginning with 'The' so the poster looks even.  The Rolling Stones are ruled out so it might be The Who again.

    • There’s a few in there which could go either way or I’m not bothered if I miss but think that’s now be pretty set.  Few rubbish clashes like Kasabian/Loyle plus Reytons/Pixies/CMAT but I’ll head with the lads to the most popular one.   (And yes no Byrne or Twigs, just can’t into either)
    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
