She'd be keen as mustard, just the festival have cold feet for some reason.

I am sure you’re joking. But many here may not be…

Kate Bush is not playing Glastonbury this year. If you think it at all likely, have a look at her setlist.fm page and get an idea about her touring habit and fondness for playing festivals. Then dig a bit deeper into the style and format of those shows she has done.

guns n roses only have 6 albums. You could easily listen to them all in a weekend

As I've mentioned before to really get into them, to be a Guns N Roses equivalent of a Swiftie all you have to to is listen to all of use your illusion 1 and 2 on repeat for 7 hours and then you will be all in

What you quoted was about younger people - kendrick and billie would be played on the radio far more / in popular culture whereas GNR won't nor will most other artists that peaked before the 00s.

It was a silly argument anyway given someone said the average age at glasto is 39

I meant the arenas were more accessible than the festival.

Well yeah, that's exact reason I'm going this year. One of them (Elton for me) plus the rest of the line-up brings the value in. But the point being if you're not interested in any of the three, it's a lot tougher. And if this was AM/GNR/Taylor we'd be putting our tickets back in the pot for Matt.

Because the festival prices have shot up, and the cost of seeing those headliners elsewhere has shot up, but the cost of gigs in the middle hasn't had quite such a hike, and at the low end, and in comedy/circus, barely gone up at all.

I dunno, I've been on this forum since Glastonbury was always without fail the best weekend of my year. It's not any more. I enjoy it. Last year was good, but honestly, I enjoyed my weekend at Machynlleth Comedy Festival even more.

(Also worth noting: I don't really drink, so the other big cost saver for Glastonbury - cheaper booze - doesn't factor in for me)

Super excited for Mach fest this year after going for the first time in 2022 🙂

Tried to get a thread going in the other part of the forum but it never got much traction.

i think you meant to quote someone else

Every human with a computer has the capacity to listen to every guns n roses album, even younger people

And young people don’t listen to the radio nearly as much as older people.

Wasnt there also some speculation about Madonna touring this year?

Pink would have been such a better Friday headliner. Was a possibility too before she added a second BST date but I don't think she plays 3 on the trot.

Probably out of Glastonbury’s price range

Yeah, it makes sense - it's a shame how it has timed itself. Still though, I would have expected Emily to try and pull something out of the hat considering how much she's brought up that issue before, I'm sure there would have been someone willing to do a one off show/touring around that time that would want to headline the biggest show of their career.

Just makes 2024 look all the more promising from my point of view, I guess.

I’m pretty sure this almost never happens

What radio stations are Kendrick and Billie played on? Is it Radio 1? I stopped listening to the radio years ago but the other half has it on in the car and mostly the local commercial stations and it's rarely those acts. It's mostly George Ezra and Elton John from what I can tell.

I assumed the likes of Kendrick were just big on the streaming?

Yeah last year was my first time too, after about 5 years of people telling me I should go!

It happened (of sorts) in 2015 when Florence stepped up.

I still think that if they decided they needed at least one female Pyramid headliner, Dua Lipa (despite not being on tour, and especially given the Elton John connection) would 100% step up and do the job.

Kendrick very occasionally will get played on 6Music, on some of the shows anyway, but even then not often. I assume they're both on Radio 1 constantly but have no desire to find out for myself.

Regarding an artist or their songs being in pop culture, I feel an aspect that often gets overlooked is the use in Movies and TV Shows - which in some cases can stick around for ages. GnR have a decent level of that - including recently several tracks being used in the Thor movie. Same reason I always wished for Bob Seger in the Legends Slot before he finally retired - few over here know the name, but they'd recognise enough of the set.

I'd love to, but sadly I've already penciled in rubbing my genitals in singing nettles.

They play Kendrick on 6music but not Billie Eilish or Taylor, hence why I know way more of his songs than either of theirs!

Yeah it had been on my radar for a while and I bought a bunch of tickets as a surprise for my partner's birthday. Have only got two for 2023 so far as want to wait and see what else is booked but am very much looking forward to going back.

1st year of getting tickets so just being at the festival will be amazing:

AM: 25% - depends who else is on, I like their older stuff
GNR: 100% - mate who i'm going with wants to see them - i'm not bothered either way,
Elton:  0% - If the rumours are true that The Prodigy are on the other stage

if you are not going to make even the most minimal of effort you don't get to complain about not knowing enough of an act's songs.

You can listen to almost all of every musical artists back catalogue for free on almost every currently operational computer

If it was 1995 maybe then you would have an argument but even then I would tell you to buy their cd's

Sorry was I too subtle?  😊

I thought they were shite when they first came out, yes enjoyed about 5 songs in their heyday but certainly wouldn't come along to see him be a nob or endure the other two hours of self indulgent guff.

There will be loads of stuff I'd love to see instead.

Arctic Monkeys headlining the festival for the 3rd time in 12 festivals is super low energy.

GnR is very risky. Could be great, could be a shambles or Axl could throw a hissy and be late and/or walk off or thump someone in the front row. Unmissable either way.

    • Possibly not as there are chair size restrictions in the seated area, for the guidelines see here -  https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/bring   Have a look into applying for Access and I would recommend contacting them for further advice before buying a ticket - https://www.bbc.co.uk/backstage/radio2inthepark/access  They should also be able to answer if you can take a wheelchair into the seated area 🙂
