They would smash a headline slot on Other Stage. It was a phenomenal show. Considering they headlined Coachella (at fairly late notice, standing in for Kanye) I think they could smash a Pyramid headline set.
efcfanwirral
Alvvays were great at Gorilla last night. Loads of new ones as expected plus quite a lot of older ones. They get through a lot of songs in a short period of time!

Really good but we got in quite late and it was insanely crowded. Only space to stand was basically at the bar. Good for getting quick drinks but not a lot of fun otherwise. New songs sounded great and obviously the old ones go off still.

Would like to have seen them but am having to cut back on my number of gigs. They are victims of my cost of living crisis. Usually this time of year I'd be at 1-2 gigs a week but cut right back so only doing a few a month.

Suprefan
So was at Desert Daze Festival this weekend covering for a publication. ( line up below ) Nice small festival that leans into psych rock, experimental, noise with some dashes of electronic, new wave, punk, pop and rare bookings. Iggy Pop was supposed to headline Sunday but his backing band couldnt get their visas sorted so Beach House filled in. Mostly a camping festival but you could stay at a local hotel and take a rideshare if you wanted to. Phone reception is not the best for better or worse so that kind helps with the audience paying attention to the music and interacting with people. Lots of characters and random weird things happened over the weekend, likely due to people on mdma, mushrooms etc. weather was warm, but its set on a beach by a lake so you can swim. Programming does go late into the night and they have a whole slate of things on the Thursday you arrive. Highlights include The Armed, Tame Impala, King Gizzard, Nation Of Language, Soulglo, Shame, Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul, Working Mens Club. Would compare it to End Of The Road but in California. Weird shit I witnessed, somebody in the audience during Viagra Boys was grating a block of cheese onto peoples heads ( or hands if you asked ). During Fuzz a dude who goes by Jello Man was surfing on a piece of wood or boogie board and was shooting Jello Shots into the crowd. 1

Been a lot but i survived. Welcoming a nice 2 week break before another week of madness.
Ayrshire Chris
Frank Turner in Glasgow last night, terrific! A good old fashioned gig, no plush seats etc, a warehouse style hall. Sound desk in the middle of the floor, all standing, decent support bands, very few folk with phones trying to film it, a bit of punk, everyone from front to back dancing, no groups of tossers talking about their mortgages, hand ink stamped by security , floor sticky with spilt beer, Frank had a tremendous rapport with the crowd and a great tribute to Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit. all in all a great night out, even for us with advanced years! Hotchilidog
Went to see Peaness at The Green Door Store in Brighton last night. Just a delightful band would love to see them at the Farm, early JP, Park or Greenpeace would be good fits for them.

Suprefan
Ok, Primavera Sound Los Angeles. The smaller more expensive cousin of Barcelona. Set adjacent to Downtown at Los Angeles State Historic Park, it was another small festival. Very lightly attended except for Sunday cause if Arctic Monkeys. Had some logistic issues such as making thousands of people have to pick up their wristbands at the box office and waiting an upwards of 3 hours on friday. Also they separated drinking areas because of underage attendees, it ypset a lot of people because under 21 got shafted with how they could see stages. This is a rule by the city due to it being a public space. At private events you can do what you like. Solid production values, really good sound which was loud and clear. They gave a ton of tickets away so I dont know how its going to come back next year if nobody was willing to spend $475 on that lineup. And i doubt they can do much to change that. Highlights include Darkside, Jehnny Beth, NIN, Bicep, Special Interest, Machine Girl, Boy Harsher.

I toyed with getting tickets but didn’t want to spend too much time at a festival watching acts I’m not that bothered about when I’d rather be exploring the city. My son likes Arctic Monkeys, but I don’t particularly, so didn’t mention it to him in the first place 😬

So i was out in the audience taking my photos. The most useful tool all weekend was a simple step stool. Best $5 I spent. 1 hour ago, henry bear said: I happened to be in LA on vacation that weekend. They were giving them out like candy if you signed up for any local contests beforehand. I had even won tickets which i obviously didnt need. But i saw somebody selling a single day wristband outside for under $100. You couldve made it work. I clearly saw people who were attending just because they were curious and such. Which is oerfectly fine if they get into acts and such. But thats not sustainable. might make it a trifecta and do pitchfork fron july cause i def missed that. Hugh Jass II
Saw Suede at the Electric Ballroom in Camden last night. First half was the new album in full (which was ace). Then they went off for 15 mins or so then came back out and did an hour of so of the hits. A good night.
