The last bit is the difficult bit but you’re right it’s way more complicated than just saying ‘we’re closed.’ I know it’s become an obsession for some but that doesn’t make it an easy thing to do.

Not really.

If they start off with "we're closed" they can then let in the numbers they're able to handle.

That way you don't end up with weeks of delays.

This is clearly the near future...

Leisure events company Eventim has said it has revamped its online ticketing system to allow customers to upload proof that they have been vaccinated against Covid 19, in expectation that this will become the norm once coronavirus regulations start to be relaxed.

Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, the CEO of Eventim, one of the largest international ticketing providers for music and entertainment events, told the German economics weekly Wirtschaftswoche once the majority of people have had the chance to be vaccinated commercial operators should be able to request proof of vaccine before allowing people access to entertainment venues.

“Once there is enough vaccine and everyone has been able to be vaccinated, then commercial operators should have the possibility to say a vaccine is the entrance requirement to events,” he said. Schulenberg said its ticketing service had already been updated accordingly. “We have set up our systems so that they can read vaccine IDs,” he said.

What is brilliant about this is it should encourage many more young people to proactively seek out the jab.

Sorry for being a cynical misery guts, but isn’t that just a complete fucking waste of time?

he's spotted something where he reckons the public might clap along with his request rather than say "fuck off Spaffer".

Unfortunately he's probably right.

If Boris truly cared he'd announce the Captain Tom Project, a scholarship programme that will bring an additional x amount of doctors and nurses or something. This is all superficial nonsense.

Sorry to be that guy, but I do think this is a little disrespectful to Sir Captain Tom. Probably not the point you were trying to make, but still.

Unpopular opinion but I’m totally fine with excluding anyone who chooses not to take the vaccine from society. Vaccine passports are fine by me.

What I will say though is that they shouldn’t be rolled out until every adult has been offered a vaccine. What we absolutely can’t have is all the old duffers down the pub and the young people still locked down.

What if the alternative is the pub has to be closed?

I'll stand on my balcony and clap when that waste of space gets convicted of the manslaughter of over 100,000 uk citizens. Until then, I'm out!

I guess the question as last year is how much they make at reduced capacity vs needing help until they can get to full capacity, and whether they can then survive that with all government help taken away (which I assume will happen as soon as they're allowed to)

I'm completely against vaccine passports because of where they could lead to, but it's pointless arguing against it now, it's happening (and always has been). I'll definitely be proactively seeking out places that don't require them though once I've had my vaccine.

The only issue I have with the Vaccine passport, selfishly, will be subject to when I'm able to get the vaccine. Fortunately, I'm in the least vulnerable bracket and rightly at the back of the queue. The official government line is that I should receive the jab "by the Autumn". I very much doubt if events or trips that I have booked and will go ahead as planned will refund if I'm unable to attend because of not being vaccinated. A slippery slope, perhaps?

COVID-19: Boris Johnson says it is 'not practical' to shut borders as he defends hotel quarantine plan.

I genuinely think they cant be bothered with doing anything else beyond vaccinating all adults and then telling everyone to go back to normal.
they’re probs thinking we’re home & dry by sept/oct so why bother

Leading a clap helps people forget how we ended up at this point where people like Tom are dying in such huge numbers

They absolutely have to put it into law that refunds must be given (or the event/trip moved) if people haven't had a chance to get the vaccine AND giving reasonable time to allow people to get it too. So the event/trip happening the weekend after the first round of under 30s appointments is not an appropriate amount of time to expect someone to have been able to get it sorted

Older and more vulnerable have been more isolated and less able to do socialising activities for a bit longer than younger people, so I think it's fine if they get to cut loose a bit sooner (as long as it doesn't increase the spread of the disease - don't want a reversal where older people are passing it on to younger people!)

I'm guessing you mean the Captain Overlord bit rather than the aversion to clapping?
