Eight? Why so many? Did you really think the best the festival had to offer every night for the past few years was on the Pyramid? Every night?

A good Pyramid headliner is a wonderful thing. But so's one at W Holts. And t'Other. And The Park. And (presumably) JPT and other places.

I’ve been going enough times to know what’s in offer elsewhere and I have seen at least one headliner on all of the stages you mention above. For full disclosure (and having looked at it again it’s seven not eight):

2015:

The Who - Thought they’d be good, was disappointed.

2016:

Muse - Didn’t fancy anything else.

Adele - Thought I’d see what the fuss was about - loved it.

Coldplay - Mrs Jass wanted to see them, I wanted to see LCD. She won.

2017:

Radiohead - Was never not going to see them. Loved it.

Foo Fighters - Was drink and fancied a bit of s rock out, was ok.

Sheeran - Another Mrs Jass pick after I’d dominated the day. Bored after 10 mins.

Macca/The Cure/AM although not a horrible lineup, it doesnt feel right to me. It would also mean 8/9 headliners from the last 3 fests were male, and although i know its a bit of a "we take what we can get" situation, I remember EE saying something about there being an imbalance that needed correcting. It might just mean more females with higher billing?

Personally Id love to see Gaga, Florence in her own right, or FM in one of those slots.

FM is a weird one for me. Really like the Rumours/ Tango In The Night stuff and would have definitely gone to see them if Lindsay Buckingham was still there.

I also really like Crowded House/ Neil Finn. Some amazing songs and want to get round to seeing him at some point.

Just seen some footage from the other night with Finn there. Nothing wrong it at all...and his voice certainly stands up better than Buckingham’s these days.

However, it just doesn’t sit right with me for them to play. Were they contractually obligued to go through with these shows and had to pick a new male vocalist/ guitarist?

If they were to have finally made themsleves available (within budget) for the G, would the festival book them with the lineup missing one of the “original” members? And such a key one at that. Probably. But can’t help but feel that some of the magic would be missing.

There's the classic Rumours era line-up, but otherwise they've always been a revolving door. Buckingham's been gone before.  Christine sat out for 15 odd years. From the fest's point of view, them being a man down shouldn't be sufficient reason to go from wanting them to play to not wanting them.

If it's The Cure, Paul McCartney and Gaga/Madonna I'd be tempted to be there every night but I just can't see it. Could still be in for the first two though, but does depend who else is playing. I tend to average one pyramid headliner per festival I think.

If Madonna, me too - but without a ticket it might be tricky. Aaaaaaaargh!

I really need to be disciplined and do what I want to at the next festival rather than going to see what I feel I should. I get all caught up in the efests ‘oh my god last chance to see/legends/200 quid to see them at their own gig’ type thing.

And then end up seeing somebody dull but worthy. Not going to do that next time. Need to be more *partridge shrug* about these type of bookings and follow my gut instinct of what will be more fun for me.

I’ll fail, of course, but my intentions are there

Yes! Exactly this!! I've had some stinkers over the years. It's actually what stopped me going with my regular mates and go solo....which led to joining a solo camping group in 2014 (Camp Ralph 4 lyf ) which is the perfect balance now. A group of mates who all feel comfortable doing their own thing but can also meet up for common interests. Like 2017, the group saw Radiohead which I had zero interest in seeing so went and did something else...unlike 2003 where I felt obliged to stick with my mates and got bored. So very, very bored.

The 'Partridge Shrug' is a perfect analogy ?

    • They are going to have Blink 182 for sure, early June upto around Werchter weekend I'd say for them. Two of Sweden Rock,  Greenfield and RFP are going to miss out.
    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
