2019 Headliners

Just caught up on 18 pages of this thread. What a rollercoaster. Started with ‘nuff hype after Neil’s emoji, then resulted in an ungrateful, self-entitled hmph when two of the dullest acts I can think of headlining were suggested, then schooled by the wisdom of eFests about being a selfish, shortsighted sort. I’ve no idea after all if that if I’m a culchie or not. I fear I probably am.

So in a nutshell: bollocks, but oh well.

I'll say this for The Killers - they've done well for a band fronted by Johnny Cab from Total Recall

The worst possible act the festival could have booked, but fair play to him for travelling here from Mars or wherever it was.

Amongst your finest work.

I’ll go and I’ll have a great time, thanks though.

I rarely see the headliners anyway. Although I’ll not deny I wanted Macca.

It’s much more about Glastonbury’s perceived status in the festival hierarchy, especially with International acts. If they’re looking to the future and you’re trying to book acts who don’t know the size and scale and history of the festival, there’s a danger you approach someone and they see it as a Killers size festival. And then it down.

I genuinely don't think a year of average headliners is going to damage the festival's reputation that much, particularly in a year where everyone in Europe's headliners look ropey.

If it really is The Killers, I hope Mendip Council add a clause to the licence limiting renditions of Mr Brightside to one per ticket holder per day (not including Wed/Thurs).

This can be monitored by a chip inside the wristband, programmed to detect Mr Brightside on a Shazam type algorithm. Ticket holders will receive electric shocks every time they so much as hum that fucking tune, starting at 100v and increasing by 30v each time. On the fourth occasion, security are alerted and the ticket holder is unceremoniously ejected from the grounds.

Those who don’t hum or sing it at all are guaranteed a ticket for 2020.

... THis is a little out there is it not?

Bands are not going to turn down 'Glastonbury' because it looks like a 'Killers' size festival. Its a payday, along with huge marketing with the BBC. EIther the band can't play it due to scheduling reasons/holding out for headliner status, or they're too expensive.

Glasto shouldn’t have to resort to that level. Had a couple years with which to plan. Either someone bailed or they fucked it up.

Maybe someone bailed, maybe they got a lot of knock backs. I don't really see how the fallow year helps them that much. It'll still be an incredible line-up even if it's a fairly pedestrian set of headliners.

Is it too surprising, weren't we all told the scope for huge headline acts at Glastonbury was now limited?

Anyway, I do consider All These Things That I've Done is a superb live song, even though I'm now doubting my judgement as the official video seems to be a tale of donkeys and dwarfs (What exactly are these things he's done?):

So first the news about the Killers and now this... You're on good form today Neil.

Very fortunate that thanks to the past few years I have a few ways of getting in, just don't fancy working Glastonbury, its my holiday.

It is a perfectly reasonable argument. Ostensibly this is a very weak year.

Festival gains zilch from The Killers appearance bar mere appeasement.

I've met people all around the world who have heard of Glastonbury festival. Who couldn't name a single headliner of the past few years.
Glastonbury will continue to sell out in minutes. It doesn't need to 'gain' anything. Its touted as one of the best music festivals in the world. It can't really go much higher.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
