So we're now looking, potentially, at Macca/The Cure/AM with Liam Gallagher and Stormzy as 2 of the subs?..

Possibly, but 1. it's a very beige set of headliners and 2. they've never had three repeat headliners play in one year, so although there's always a chance they could start next year, I'd say it's more likely that one of those is wrong.

firstly there's the tweet by the guy in the USA who seems to know what's what.

I've also had a further bit of info which doesn't say they are but does suggest it.

Could his tweet not have been referring to IOW possibly? Just said 'iconic festival in June' didn't it?

could be.

But I've had something else suggestive of Glasto, too.

AM were the most logical bet but slightly disappointed, as long as them and The Cure playing doesn't impact Macca playing then i'm fine with that. Please tell me that he is still likely!

Bloody hell, all white and all male. Depressing.

no matter how hard a festival tries, at the moment that's going to happen.

Simple fact is that the majority of acts who are suitable to headline Glastonbury fall into that category.

Things are getting much better lower down the line-ups of big fests, but it's going to take a while for that to work thru.

I'm just refusing to believe it would be so uninspiring across the board. It's just too safe

This is why I'm leaning solidly into the concept of Stormzy. I wouldn't be opposed to The Cure/Arctic Monkeys/Paul McCartney - it's no more white than 2013 or 2014, for example - but it feels keeping in touch with Glastonbury giving the heave-up for some artists.

Surely no artic monkeys again.. It would be really nice to see a headline spot with all bands that haven't headlined before or at least the last say ten years..

Why is macca so much in the frame? Cure and AM seem likely for the reasons as states before, but I'd have thought macca would do his own gigs/Hyde park over Glasto again?

He's doing his own gigs over here at Christmas then an extensive US tour in May/June. Looks like Glasto is another stop on the tour for him.

I'd very happily shell out for a Glastonbury headlined by The 1975, Pink and Iron Maiden. I think all three of them will be in Europe next summer so it wouldn't be utterly implausible, except it kind of is.

To be honest most Glastonbury headliners, especially recent ones anyway are about as safe as they come. The festival really isn’t as into taking risks with its headliners as people like to believe.

Kanye was the last risky one I suppose and look how that turned out.

I had some info that he's doing it, along with the best-sourced Cure info i had. If one is wrong, the other is likely to be too.

Thing is though at some point it's going to have to happen. Choices run thin and if FM can't agree and FATM is off what other choice is there?, remember people still have to say yes to do it. They can't turn down Macca and Arctics is a easy booking for all parties.

True, but even Neil Lonsdale would look at that three and think "that's a bit bland".

I agree with you here, looking at the line ups the past ten years it has mostly been white and male, normally a rock band. I think there is a unrealistic expectation of simultaneously wanting 'risky' bookings, which we then get annoyed about being booked and demanding more beige bookings. I think there is no pleasing us. I for one am very happy with the current beigeyness of the predictions and think there is more diversity in there than people are willing to give credit.

    • My party again had an outstanding 4 days in Barca. We made the right call to leave the festival site early at about 10.30 on Thursday to get ourselves some excellent steaks in the city. I am with everyone that the organization should have been clearer about what is going on and also if you would like to get rid of some attendees open more exits, they sent us from gate to gate until we finally were able to get out. Biggest 'disappointment' was the beer price, a YoY increase from 5 to 6 is absolutely nuts!!! (i am living in Switzerland so me making this comment says something 🙂)   Top 10:   1. Men I Trust 2. Role Model (could have been first as well, what a great artist and great songs) 3. The XX 4. The cure (the last 90 minutes) 5. Gorillaz 6. MBV 7. Ninajirachi (another big miss of the organization, clearly on the wrong podium and wonder if Olivia's surprise set had something to do with that and they had to reschuffle late the Occident, Cupra and Port schedules) 8. NewDad 9. Big Thief 10. Annastashia      We did 3 years Barca now and for next year looking at the Porto or Bilbao festivals as an option.
    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
    • No complaints about the sound. We were like 2nd set of steps facing stage right in like the middle row.
    • On the whole then, yay or nay...I've had a look on festivals united and there's people who seem converted by Rock Im Park, I can imagine it might be different if it was a washout as RaR is tarmac.   The hotel side would be more to convince the non campers if it's an option. On my first visit to rock am ring we were shuttled into the area where you could stick the car next to the tent which was fantastic as it meant zero lugging of camping gear.
