5 or 6 songs. Do some homework bonny lad.

I'm a bog-standard, 40 year old, Glastonbury goer. I've just had a look at the last Who set list on line and I've heard of 4 songs (Who Are You, My Generation, Magic Bus and Pinball Wizard).

In comparison I know the vast majority of Thumbs Aloft Fab Macca Wacca's last set.

This proves nothing, I know, apart from I'm not interested in The Who.

Ahh another County fan! What'd you make of the Butcher appointment?

If he's as good as he was at Inverness then he'll be a solid appointment.

If he's as bad as he was at Hibs then look foward to playing in the conference. At least he's joined at the end of the season this time so he can't say most of the players will be leaving as soon as he can get rid of them, leading to them not trying and combined with Butcher's tactics their eventual relegation. All that Hibs team had to was win a game from March onwards and they'd have stayed up but they couldn't even manage that.

Surely you must have heard of Baba O'Riley, Won't Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes, I Can See For Miles? I'm not a massive fan either but I don't know how those could have passed you by!

Madness. This whole fucking thing. Beautiful glorious madness. I love the uncertainty.

The Who? busted flush. Dismal dismal booking. Would make my folks happy, but really? what a fucking dreadful set of headliners. 'You can't get one up on Glastonbury'? fuck that, IOW wins hands down this year. (in terms of headliners only, of course)

If you were going to the gig that got cancelled and paid good money I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be all like 'Oh, It's okay. They want to sell a few more records by a big festival/TV appearance'. Especially when it's The Who who really don't need that!

exactly, it's supposedly not a big gig fee, so what's the incentive for cancelling their own gig and doing Glastonbury again? to sell some copies of their greatest hits?

it's not like a new(ish) band like Arctic Monkeys headlining and loads of people who don't know their stuff going out to buy albums. most people already know about The Who.

Stones had a 700% increase in album sales, which were probably low enough before, so I can't imagine we're talking a huge amount in unit numbers terms....

financial incentive isn't even there as the label (Universal) will take most of the money on album sales. I can't imagine the band would make huge amount on increased sales so.

they don't really need the publicity, they're already huge and they're retiring anyway....

they've already played Glastonbury before, ticking it off the bucket list doesn't apply like it might for some heritage act that have never played...

if it was IoW then you could maybe make slightly more of a case for it given their history with the festival.

not to mention their final UK gig being to their own fans in the city they're from, is now replaced 2 days later by a festival they played a few years previously?

there is absolutely nothing I can see from The Who's point of view as to what the incentive is.

Just gone back a few pages and seen 'the Who is playing?' joke has already been done.

I saw them play in the rain last time and thought they were great, but can't believe they would cancel a big show in Paris this close to June. Would be really pissed off if I had tickets to that show and they did cancel.

Can't see it at all - why wait til June to tell people their gig has been cancelled.

That would be wrong on too many levels.

You cannot agree to cancel a gig in April then not tell the fans until June.

Not unless you're a bunch of greedy tossers. If the Eavii are knowing accomplices to it then that's a bit shit as well.

Mind, saying all that, I bet myself and a few others wouldn't be complaining too much if it was a more inspiring booking that was acting the c**t.

Agree with both, shameful stuff if it happens particularly from the Eavii who can't act like they don't know. I've had quite a few gigs cancelled at short notice over the years and took it on the chin on most occasions as they gave quite a bit of notice, were not 'massive gigs' or the act had a plausible excuse such as health issue or not getting the album finished. Cancelling for a bigger gig is just douchebag material

Utterly uninspiring if true (and I fear it is). 0/3 Pyramid for me then

Ditto for me. Shows how great Glastonbury is though that there's so much more on elsewhere that it won't be an issue.

I have been telling you for weeks it's the KLF, Neil come on, help me put everyone out of their misery and all these red herrings being thrown around to cover the outstanding story that the KLF WILL headline Glastonbury on the Sunday night :)

Ahhh, KLF reforming would be great. Drummond is a legend, loved '45'

Don't get The Who booking at all. Might as well bump Flo up to headline. Desperately dull booking with The Who.

Can anyone explain to me why The Who is a dull or uninspired booking? Most people seem to be pointing to the fact that they played 8 years ago, but I'm guessing the average Glasto goer hasn't been every year for the last 8 years? I'm excited at the prospect of seeing them personally.

As for cancelling the gig, I dunno. 6K people isn't a huge amount, although I'd be gutted if I had tickets and they turned around and cancelled. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that it's happened though.

If you're only an asshole to 1 person, it doesn't really make you any less of an asshole.

"It's only 6K people!" is a pretty lame excuse for the behaviour - Particularly if they know already, have known for a while and are not telling those fans yet to make alternative arrangements. Dick move.

I can see it's happening, doesn't mean it's not a shit move.

it could be considerd dull and boring, i suppose, because it's been done before, in the same way. regardless or whether i or anybody else was there to see it first time, Glastonbury isn't really known for exact repeats. that's what Reading and Blink 182 are for.

personally i'm not arsed whether its the Who or not, but i can totally understand that reaction.

That makes sense I guess. I wasn't saying 'it's only 6000', I was just trying to weigh up reasons that they would or wouldn't play. It really is terrible if they cancelled on 6000 people. Any chance they could move to a bigger venue on the Monday?

The only reason they were discounted before was because of the Paris date. If they are prepared to ditch that then they fit all the other criteria although IMO it would be very bad form on their part.

Saw them with The Ox at Wembley and they were great. Missed them in 2007 as was staying in a van and only had the energy left to get to The Acoustic Stage so saw The Bootleg Beatles instead!

All I need now is to win Neil's competition to get a ticket this time!

Not trying for the secret resale?

This indeed! Unfortunately though, if they only used BST as the option, I don't think rumor this will have stopped completely.

It is advertised as the final date of their ' Who Hits 50 Tour', but I guess there is a chance that if they were announced, it could be announced but not on that term getting away from being apart of that?

I wouldn't be against Paul Weller but I've kind of gotten the idea it's Noel now and a point has been made to leave that Sunday free or I'm going with that. I'd love both, Weller does have a tour to sell out but I'd be surprised if he put that big of a tour on for the end of the year which still has plenty to sell out and is clearly pushing his weight anyway/sub is too high and then announced for a show where 135/40k people have the chance to see him before hand.
