Well, my son becomes a teenager tomorrow and I promised him last month that the line-up would "definitely, definitely, definitely" be out in time for his birthday. I'm slowly teaching him that life is full of disappointments 🤣11 points

Ever stopped to think why they were not there? Listen to female artists when they talk about how they are treated. This is still happening in 2024. You can't just pretend that in the whole of the UK women just didn't want to make bands or didn't make them. Times haven't "changed". What has changed is our awareness of the historical mistreatment that UK female acts have endured and still endure. Listen to UK female acts talking about this. There is plenty of content on the internet about this. You talk about "merit" but what is merit worth on its own when you have the industry mistreating female artists just for being female? You simply can't expect equal outcomes when half of the artists are being targeted just for being women. Glasto are trying to do their bit in balancing this by giving more opportunities to voices that have been underrepresented. You seem to be under the impression that both male and female acts have always walked down the same path in the industry world, faced similar issues and had similar opportunities. That is not correct. Please, listen to female acts talking about this, we can all help if we listen. An open mind is all it takes4 points

The headliners all deserve to be up there, to a greater or lesser extent. Its the other bookings that really tank it - Gossip, London Grammar, James Blake, Disclosure, Sleaford Mods. Combined with a lack of other eye-catching names (Stevie Nicks, Pulp, Chaka Khan, Prodigy, etc)2 points

Update on my journey discovering The National : After enjoying Boxer, I've now been looping over High Violet. I prefer Boxer, but High Violet is still rather nice. I thought England was my favourite track, but that may be changing with more listens.2 points

If anyone's interested I've been having a play around with the Clashfinder due to a few day self-confirmations and to make it look more like what might actually be the case. https://clashfinder.com/s/gm2024/2 points

I don't think I've ever got that impression from anyone.2 points

Same, I'd far rather they get someone new than someone who played a couple of decades ago who would (in several cases) only be wanted for the same material they played back then. That surely presumably would apply to potential attendees who aren't an old git like me.2 points

Clearly because they make a big deal of the visual aspect. I'm answering my own dumb ass questions here.2 points

Weather far and way the most important factor. A sunny afternoon with friends and I couldn't give a f**k what's playing. Could be a band I absolutely love playing 200m away, someone I've been looking forward to for months, a tantalising prospect ever since the poster dropped, but cold pints and laughter and I'll stick around.2 points

Banging that's who! Not heard of her before, but just had a good listen, right up my street that! Drop those beats Peggy 🕺1 point

I know Avalon have a recent reputation for booking acts which will overcrowd the field, but Gary Numan would surely be an epic mistake. It would be carnage IMO.1 point

They are not prioritising female acts encouraging equality is not prioritising! The more women have a platform in the business, the more producers, the more bookers then the less chance that men get away with that behaviour.1 point

I think the lesson to be learned here is that c**ts will moan about anything1 point

Oh no, you clearly care, even if it means we think you're a misogynist too 🙄1 point

i forget the deets now, but i think its in the public domain, prodigy haven't been a regular booking for an act of their size, there was maybe a public complaint from the band about not getting booked when they were at their peak, or a public complaint about the fee they got when they have been booked, but they've never been cosy friends with the festival (as the few bookings over the years suggests).1 point

Totally fair, fingers crossed they are there. Any chance you could ask the people you know who work on it if they’re gonna be at Glastonbury?!1 point

Their Finsbury Park show last year was an absolute barnstormer and could easily have cut it as a Pyramid headline set.1 point
-
It's not as clear cut as I first reckoned. They're a very strong sub, no doubt, but an out and out copper-bottomed no-qualms headliner? Not so sure. Given that the demographic of Glastonbury skews towards that vintage, they might just swing it, but it's far from a guaranteed banker. Can see it being a bit of a damp squib amongst the wider attendees. The fans that like them, properly love them, but there are large swathes of people utterly indifferent/unaware of them, or who only know one song. Not sure I'd take the risk were I booking the festival.1 point
-
I don't think they would initially be booked to headline but could be a bump up if things don't pan out as they want.1 point
-
True, they could also be first on the Pyramid too though. There is likely to be an open slot 5th down the Other stage too by the looks of things.1 point

He put it on insta stories at 10am. It's inside Camden Market. Wristbands available from 3pm1 point

Songwriters - just like authors, filmmakers etc - are capable of creating characters and embodying their perspective. Obviously there are plenty of examples of singers taking real-life heartbreak and singing about it but just because a song contains a lyric doesn't mean that the singer actually thinks that. I would argue that the best songwriters are those who are capable of writing from a perspective other than their own. Really feel like the culture today has a huge problem with understanding that portrayal does not equal endorsement.1 point

Chase & Status is a much bigger pull than the lineup of recent years i think, I reckon it should be ok £18 vs £36 while double the price is still incredibly cheap and seems unlikely to put many people off I think personally1 point

In Kill Bill SZA is clearly fantasising about committing some sort of crime, but ultimately the lyrics are self-critical and are more about her inability to move on from a previous love than they are an exhortation for violence. However, in Bohemian Rhapsody Freddie Mercury confesses to murder, even going so far as to outline the approach and the weapon he used. In a just society he should have done time and never have been free to potentially kill again.1 point

I guessed Friday mainly based on deduction due to: The poster suggesting 5th down along with Keane and Paloma Faith Paloma Faith being busy at headline gigs Thursday and Friday evenings making her most likely for Sunday afternoon. Saturday is possible at a push. Paul Heaton being listed before Keane. So it is a guess - his tour dates only have him down playing in Cardiff on Wednesday so he could do any day.1 point
-
By that extension, any piece of art with a violent theme should be scrutinised and possibly cancelled. That's thousands of books, huge swathes of paintings and sculpture, all horror/murder mystery/crime podcasts, films and TV series and quite a lot of music. Grow up. It's fictional.1 point

Prof Janina Ramirez just confirmed herself for the University of Glastonbury at the Crow's Nest1 point

When you lay it out like that, that's a decent trio. Idles headlining Other will be a proper Glastonbury moment, you know you're getting a guaranteed polished set from Coldplay and if Justice's show is anything like 2017, it'll be the perfect way to close the weekend out. Yeah, I'd have some of that1 point

2008 was ace. A tonne of indie landfill but heaps of memorable stuff. Jazzworld was superb. Eddy Grant for example - quintessential Glasto performance.1 point

She'll likely play the same set at both and likely neither will be a mix, both will be overwhelmingly her new album. Some would call it not compromising her artistic principles to please an audience. People do expect to hear 'greatest hits' at a festival (or at least more upbeat numbers) and likely will be a lot of chatter during her set.1 point

She would make more sense on The Levels or even Other stage… park is a strange placement. And she’s a nob. That is all! I expect this Park placement is to get another female on the top line of the ‘main’ stages though.1 point

As much as I like PJ Harvey, I just can’t see this particular latest album translating well to Mordor.1 point

I'm happy with the poster, just need a headliner for Saturday night. I might send Emily an emotional plea to swap Fonataines to Saturday. I missed them in 2022 as well as they clashed with Turnstile.1 point

People must’ve stopped around the edges of the field then as there was a massive crush/blockage trying to get past or in to the field.1 point
