I know we’ve not had an announcement yet, but it feels like we’re on course to knowing all three headliners earlier than any other year. That Elton post is very interesting and suggests we’ll know pretty soon either way!

Knowing?

There are plenty of years where there have been rumours or strong rumours, as you can see in earlier posts, but as you'd expect from the sale dates we're much later than some recent years to know anything

Are there any BST slots left?

They've got one more allowed date on the licence. Most likely (based on precedent and logistics) it'll be the Friday of Glastonbury, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.

I think Guns n Roses would want too much money for Glastonbury to consider booking them.

Not necessarily, they've been doing huge stadium gigs for a few years now and have got a Hyde Park date the week after to boost the coffers.

I doubt Emily would have been bigging them up had they been asking for too much.

I thought Diana Ross had put me off mega crowds at the Pyramid for life. But Elton may pull me back in. He has rather a lot of bangers. Plus he seems like a nice guy and genuinely interested in new artists.
I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

That sounds reasonable. Unfortunately theres like a week between the final and christmas - i think we could very well be waiting till january.

We had them later than that in the past, think Kylie was December 19th - which would be one day after the final this year

Genuine question (with a bit of shade attached). Do GnR only have one good* album?

(*I will concede, a great album)

Appetite and both Use Your Illusion records stand up IMO.

To be fair "one final date" doesn't rule out Glastonbury, his fans are the target with that Instagram post, it implies a date people can buy tickets to, which isn't really the case with Glastonbury

This was my thoughts.  If anything, I'd see this as a bad sign, as it's "one final date" that almost certainly isn't Glastonbury.

Or……

”Finally, Elton John will headline Glastonbury Festival”

@sheerin_lfc is there some sort of rule that LFC fans have to like and defend acts from Liverpool?

Yeah, we all get given copies of Abbey Road, The La's and HMS Fable by the club and are bound to defend them for eternity. There are non-Liverpool exceptions too. Your Deacon Blues and Pink Floyds.

Either that, or we can just spot WUMs.

If Eminem is the third and final, it's truly a stinker

I'm game for it

Just need Blink-182 to confirm and Eavis will have nailed the "late noughties Reading Festival" set of headliners.

That lineup was potentially the best Reading has put out, let's have it!

it was " Hello! Roxy Music for legends slot at Glastonbury 2023"

from the person who correctly gave me 2022 headliners, and other stuff too over many years.

Doesn't matter who it was does it. It was wrong, you were wrong. What's new!

Had to god knows how many years ago….

Exactly

looks like i might be throwing my ticket back.

GOOD! You aren't needed there anymore

no, but if that's a quality marker for next year i don't have high hopes. but i do have a high ticket price.

You knew the ticket price before you chose to purchase without any bands announced.

Can somebody explain to me why an artist as iconic and popular as Elton John, who sold out Hyde Park in minutes and has been on a massive stadium/arena tour for the last few years would do an hour in the middle of the afternoon?

Come on people, he's headline or nothing.

And on top of that, today, on 1 December 2022, at the age of 75, he's getting more radio play and chart success than Arctic Monkeys, GnR, Eminem or pretty much anyone that's been touted as headliner on here short of Harry Styles and Taylor.

I don't buy this argument really. Its a three week long tournament. And then Christmas. I don't think the WC would change announcement plans except maybe on the day of the final or days England are playing possibly?

See you on December 20th when they announce GnR

I am super disappointed by this possible nailing on of GnR, they just feel like such a average choice. But I'm pleased for everyone that'll be going, plenty of other stages and all that.

I don't think it follows. Equally possible the initial info was "GnR have just signed for a big UK festival in June" and someone jumped to Glasto. I'd be more worried if the initial rumour said they were doing BST and Glastonbury, because then the source would have got something right. As it is, the source didn't call the BST date so it doesn't actually tell us anything other than they're in the country and touring at that point. Which, y'know, so are Blur.

So what is Elton John teasing on Insta? Guessing it’s BST?

No act has done BST twice in a row.

that would make sense if it wasnt a full glasto trio that was given.

    • Same here, when the lineup dropped it looked very strong but this year I’m considering more whether I buy tickets for enjoyment or fomo.   Speaking of that dilemma, I caved and bought a Turnstile Piece Hall ticket so I’ll see you there 😂
