The point is, she was double jabbed. Yet still caught COVID. If everyone is double vaccinated and cases numbers continue to rise, then we need to continue with NPIs.

Forever? You do realise the vaccine will never stop you catching it.. that's not how it works.

Double jabbed people will continue to get it year after year.

I’m genuinely not sure how so many people don’t know this!!

Anyway, the point is case numbers are currently high and growing fast, so I do think we all still have a moral responsibility to wear face coverings indoors.

I wore a mask indoors before the government told me to. I stopped arsing around with sanitiser before the told me to. Government guidance should mean precisely fuck all.

Do the right thing, sorry if that sounds like virtue signalling just because it's a discussion on what is right.

all true...but maybe this will mean more people will wear them here when they have a respiratory virus like they do in far east. I'd see that as something positive to come from this. In Japan it's just a totally normal thing.

Yes and as I’ve said nothing stops people from wearing one. The change in rules doesn’t ban them being worn it just relaxes the rules to make them mandatory.

And how is she doing may I ask?

I also assume from your comment that you won’t be attending Glastonbury going forward, or any large gathering for that matter, as it’s unlikely masks will be worn there and places like that are a hotbed for catching something.

Genuine question, did you wear a mask when you were feeling unwell before the pandemic? Because viruses have always been around, and you said government guidelines should mean ‘fuck all’, so assuming you have always protected others in this way?

Presumably case numbers will rise every winter and covid will never leave us. So you’d wear a mask indoors every winter forever? Seems unlikely

I'd like to think whilst still living with the virus people could use common sense in busier places or on public transport use them. Continue to be more careful about personal hygiene. If you do have to go out and about and have cold symptoms make sure you wear one. It would actually reduce all colds/flus. Hopefully offices will be more tolerant to people staying home and working when they have minor illnesses and we'd actually be better off and not lose as much money to minor illnesses in the first place as well.

Agreed.

trying to find something someone posted on here about any mutation that was enough to avoid the vaccines completely would also render the virus unharmful to humans but cant find it.

the number of people on twitter that seem to think a vaccine resistant strain is inevitable is alarming.

I think we need to start looking at deaths and hospitalisations as a whole, and not just look at Covid on its own. When you look at deaths from flu and pneumonia (as mentioned a few pages back) they are significantly higher deaths from these than what is currently being seen from covid, yet we are only talking about restrictions due to covid. Maybe its time to consider what we should be doing to reduce the number of deaths from other air borne transmission causes. Also I think it puts more context as to the 'bigger picture' when looking at covid, serious illnesses and death from covid are a relatively small number compared with other causes, now the people at most risk have been double jabbed, and it doesn't look like there will be a massive spike in deaths even if cases continue to increase. Deaths will still be a lot lower than other causes we largely seem to accept. Perhaps we should looking at more measures to protect the vulnerable during flu season rather than measures to protect the less vulnerable from covid now?

I don’t mind wearing one on trains etc up to a point. Going to London end of august which is like 5 hours on the train and no way a mask would be staying on that whole time anyway, I just don’t see it as realistic.

Shops it might be up to them to make their own guidance I don’t really care much it is not a big imposition to pop it on for ten mins.

I will look forward to masks going at times when I think it makes no sense like when being shown to your table at an outdoor beer garden, things like that

Just back from a week in London and the 4.5 hour train journey from to and from Edinburgh was pretty easy. Mask on when not eating or drinking for us, some other people seeming to be mask wearing for getting on and off the train/using the toilets but not in their seats.

When I was last up I was coming after the football and didn’t see one single person in the carriage wearing one so at that point I’m kinda like aw what’s the point.

It defo is a psychological thing tho where people will follow the crowd and have more confidence to not wear one if others aren’t imo

Twitter was a glorious place last night with all the stuff about the German football GoFundMe until someone started retweeting countless anti-unlocking/Fake Sage posts onto my timeline. It put a right downer on proceedings!

Makes sense - original estimates were all done in lockdowns/heavy restrictions, and as we're seeing, as it spreads more then more vaccinated people are catching it. The real numbers are catching up to the original estimates/hopes for a vaccine

Nah that sent me into anti-vax Twitter so I exited immediately.

Is this more of an "acceptable" source, an actual Israeli newspaper? Even though the other one sourced this as the story...

It was from research done by the Oxford vaccine team and what you said it pretty much what they said.

There is an article, I think, on the Twitter of one of the lead Oxford folks.

Haven't got time to look down their timeline but I think the mac n chise account said something about this?

We've talked to our people to ask how much time people would like to spend in the office. Most people were either 2 or 3 days a week so we're planning around that. We've got a few who want 100% office so we're letting them do that. Most of those folk have been in for the duration.

    • Same’s happened at MSG recently with Rush and Phish alternating nights. I guess each band has its own unique production so their riggers will be kept busy
    • The rumour was uk arena tour late this year.  Same as Charli xcx cant be announced until Reading headline is done.
    • Latest from the sun at least is that harry is still headlining but Olivia has turned down a spot next year to work on new music and hope for 2028.   So they can't have Fender, Fontaines, Harry, Olivia and Madonna.
    • I mean I don't think EC and FFDP are borderline sub, they wouldn't be any lower now.   2025 is about as strong as Bloodstock gets yet this year only one headline would sub and the others would play 3rd down or lower.    Machine Head wouldn't sub at Download regardless of rarity, they don't sell enough tickets and I'm not sure Gojira would sub either. Their last UK tour was a mix of smaller arenas and academy dates. Ally Pally being the only London date, not even Wembley Arena.
    • live music / main stage will generally end around 11pm but theres dj’s and late goings on right till 4am if you are so inclined.   Drinks are about £7.50 a pint probably and yes theres lots of mixed drinks / spirits / cocktails available to buy   wonderful festival, back for my third year in a row and 4th overall
