do you think they’re referring to the lineup, or the actual spider having extra bits on?

If putting El Spido back in is a relatively recent decision then I'd guess it will largely be the same as the last time it hoved into view.

I think the Spider return was a sensible position to take (as well as maybe political). At least the Spider is not vulnerable to wind conditions either.

The decision was made a couple of months ago. I agree with @stuartbert two hatsvideo mapping will feature more, like on the sphere of the crane. That’s come a long way since 2017.  Things will be freshened up.
