Am i right in saying the speaker towers side of stage at the park are slightly different this year, look more substantial with support at the back. What could this mean? Bigger speakers? Maybe even screens? something for decoration?? who knows. All we know for certain is am I overthinking it? almost certainly.

Well if any stage needed better setup its the Park - no good putting on secret acts on and then not being able to hear/see anything.   Remember this really was nightmare when Radiohead/Pulp played in 2011.

It definitely looks that way to me. I've had a look back to 2017 and while it's a bit blurry, it looks as if there's only a single tower to the side. Looking at photos of the Park stage during the festival it also looks different

They look like they are same as the video screen post for the other stage.

Pretty much yes. Main load will be lighting, sound systems and catering equipment all adding up to a peak load of a small town Id assume. Especially at around 10/11pm when all food places, soundsystems and lights across the site will be on. A grid connection will be possible but like you said will probably require major infrastructure changes far up the supply to allow for the increased capacity. I once got quoted £35k to bring a 3 phase supply to a not very rural house.

Theres probably a lot of bureaucracy involved in who would own and maintain the new network as its largely private and would require specialist (high voltage)technicians to look after the substations and switch gear.

At least with generators they allow each stage to be independent of the next and will be familiar to the crews. Downside diesel has a much higher carbon intensity than the grid.

I thought they just got the work experience lad to scale one of the pylons and clamp onto a cable.

If my memory serves me correctly, it looks like they're putting the fence-up in an anti-clockwise direction this year, when they normally go clockwise.  Unless they usually meet in the middle and I've just never noticed it coming the other way.

Was anti-clockwise in 2017 too.

I'm really not keen on screens at The Park.  There's a real directness from seeing the band directly.  They were a welcome addition at W Holts, but there's something really 'live' feeling about lacking that intermediation.

Are we sure there will be screens? It may be for other aspects of the structure, possibly?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
