Going from previous years though i do think it's likely to be someone who will drew in the viewers on BBC, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was Madonna or Kylie, maybe Swift,

Swift is already playing a gig on the Beeb a month earlier, so not sure that would come into it for her. Plus they always say they don't book headliners based on the TV coverage anyway. Edited by Zac Quinn

Saw them once before and thought they were crap, and yeah, they haven't got enough material for a long set. I guess if they are at least it means one less difficult choice on Friday - Already upset about Foos vs Hot Chip, I'd hate there to be a brilliant Other Stage headliner in contention too.

There is strong info they are

Maybe the high slot is seen as an act of good faith that their set got cut short last year

I saw them at the weekend there and I can confirm no amount of narcotics could convince me they'll make good other stage headliners, absolute piss water

Who the hell are Rudimental?

I'm not masisvely up to speed with groups these days but I've never heard of these before in my life

Sub headline yes, headline, is just such a weird choice of the back of 1 album and a few successful singles.

Rudimentary headlining the Other should be more controversial a topic then Blur or even Flo headlining the Pyramid. One fairly popular album cannot make them a viable option as an Other stage headliner surely? I can see getting them back as sub headliners to make up for last year but anything more than that is a waste of a booking.

Ben Howard is another questionable booking as an Other headliner but slightly more understandable then Rudimental. Chems are a tired booking.

Considering Other stage headliners in past years have included, QOTSA, Bjork, Pet Shop Boys, (a reformed) Orbital, Massive Attack and Portishead then the 3 rumoured acts are very poor in comparison. Hell, even Smashing Pumpkins and Pixies are better options and they only managed to sub!

Btw, I saw Chems headline in 2011 and they were excellent. I just think they seem to be there every few years and so there's little 'wow' factor when seeing their name linked to the lineup once again.

Rudimental will have new material by the time the festival is out

Lets not forget they've already have a top 3 single this year, and are headlining smaller festivals

They are a big act right now, a safe booking but a big act!

First post of the year after coming on here last year, forgive me if what I propose has been discussed because I'm steadily losing track.

Emily's comments regarding Flo: is it not possible they will put her against Kanye on Saturday on Other? I can imagine the beeb being nervous about Kanye (N bombs, etc) and perhaps wanting a solid, popular act for TV coverage/competition?

On the other hand, we've also had Skrillex (on only one proper album), Jake Bugg, Panic at the Disco, Razorlight (on only one album) and Basement Jaxx (on only one album)...

All their set consists of it

Singalong

Weak drum n bass album track

MC shouting a lot of mashed totty

Extravagant dancing

Weak reggae DnB remix attempt

Special guest who isn't particularly special

MC shouting more totty

Singalong

In other words, boring shit

The closer the festival gets, the more I just don't want to see the Foos. Was up for it when they got announced but realised I only like a handful of songs and not really that bothered.

Same boat! Haven't listened to the new album but I may decide to see someone else if there is. If not I'll just go see 'em anyway

One of those singles is off an Ed Sheeran album.

Also I haven't heard anything about new Rudimental stuff, unless they bring out a single around the time of the festival.

It's crazy to think I remember people complaining that The XX were headlining the Other stage.

Ben Howard will do that just fine.. pure BBC material.

I think Rudimental are right to headline Other considering their recent festival slots and stuff but it's just because they've moved up from Sonic to mid-Pyramid to Other headline since the fallow year that makes it seem weak. Works well opposite Foos too.

Foo Fighters / Rudimental / Hot Chip / Catfish and the Bottlemen / Caribou for the five biggest stages seems short on options though if all the 'info' and the assumption about Caribou are right. I can see a fair few posters around here not being bothered about any of those.

I'll be fucking made up if it's Blur. Them or Stone Roses were my ideal headliner. Even Fleetwood Mac would make me happy enough. All a big step up from Florence or Taylor Swift.

Why did this get two downvotes, when it is 100% true?

I agree but if you can say we have the biggest star on the planet closing our festival that would tick a big box despite the inevitable outrage. If this is the endgame it would help if you already have an incredibly stong line up out there that the public are digesting/ frothing over. The media would lap it up. I just want her to play!

She is NOT the biggest star on the planet. Your obsession with her is weird.

Very much doubt that it will be Macca. ME said to me the year before last that he was glad he played the Pyramid when he did as his voice is now shot.

Did he really? I think you're making that up.

I am overjoyed to have finished this 45 page trek after a day off...but can I third the motion to merge this thread with the headliner 2015 thread? Such a waste? What say you Neil? P.S. Cheers for the info :)

I would bloody Love it RATM were to play Glasto again!! Ideally if they did, they'd headline - I know people would moan about that, but seeing as they are not currently active, it would have to be a big coup to get them!! Headlining the Other Stage at the very least!!

Really can't see Reverend And The Makers headlining the Other Stage mate.

Roskilde's the week after though, isn't it? The only thing I can see is Werchter on the Friday.

Indeed, my point was though Roskilde isn't in his tour dates either. I'm fairly sure he is booked somewhere for Sunday but if he isn't, IOW sticking out top two Saturday is an interesting one!

I sort of agree. He released High Ball Stepper and was announced for Open'er a couple of days before the Glastonbury announcement so we were sort of expecting him after that, Him being announced for Open'er was a surprise though.

It was but after that it wasn't anymore really.

Do people really think Rudimental can headline the Other stage? I don't see it myself.

No

I've seen people suggest Caribou to sub Hot Chip which sort of makes sense as I guess there's a fair bit of crossover there. You could then have someone like Laura Marling or Belle & Sebastian on the Park that night.

It would be a complete shame to have Caribou playing in the daylight, which they would if they subbed WH, I am starting to think Caribou might not be there, which is an equally sad thought

George Clinton with the Family Stone? That sounds very far-fetched to me. Last I heard Sly and the Family Stone don't get on, but George and Sly have always been pally and Sly is on Clinton's new album.

Agreed, it's a really bizarre suggestion. Some kind of guest appearance seems possible, if unlikely, but really can't see the Family backing George for a whole set. Though I'd be there like a shot if it happened!

As popular as they are at the moment, Catfish won't top the JP bill.

    • They'll get Foo Fighters as well.
    • That as a surprise along with The Cure is the best part of the lineup so far.   Probably means though she's about next year again.
    • I also dont think Deftones will tour next year.   But I think RIP will have both Foos and Blink and if SOAD fo festivals that will be your 3.
    • Bearing in mind the Maiden point could just be nothing. They should also get Sabaton on second bit if i was them with their stage show I wouldn't take it. It would have to be headline due to how Download program and they won't
    • Nothing wrong about the lineup, which has been great over the last few years. But it just doesn't balance out my experience anymore.   Also, there seems to be a shift in the festival to cater towards US clients? This year felt like a 'cool' version of Coachella for some reason but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.   Maybe I'm just getting old.    Many locals get in for free either via friends of the organisation or just plainly using the QR codes multiple times. I had a chat with many of them over the weekend. They told me it is a 'thing' among locals. You just don't pay Primavera Sound
