I've just had a terrible revelation.

What if Neil only created this thread and revealed this rumour to keep us away from the Headliners thread, because he knows that when the Headliners thread reaches 2000 pages, the Purple One will be revealed...

Are you drunk?

That made me laugh.

Anyone know why Chromeo pulled out last year?

Has anyone thought that maybe when blur said they weren't headlining it was bullshit to push there ticket sales

Or they weren't book at the time?

With the info Neil has had recently, sounds like Glasto maybe lined up someone else, they pulled out, and old ME has given Blur a ring and said 'fellas, any chance we can work something out?'.

If they announce late enough, it shouldn't hit BST ticket sales too much. It would even be possible for them to announce it after the BST gig. Though I imagine it would've leaked by then.

Of course everything above is pure conjecture but that seems like a possible scenario

I still can't believe that the people in charge of the festival leave it this late to finalise the headliners. So it seems there has been a pull out within the past week or so (likely to be Prince). Why don't they have a deadline of Christmas for example. If it's not all signed on the dotted line the move on to the next act.

It's the biggest and most famous festival in the world and any band/artist should be knocking on Eavis' door wanting to play. The festival shouldn't play second final to any ego maniacs and their demands.

I think the fact they are on the rumours page for Sunday might (not sure on this) be a hint. It all makes sense what youve said!

if they did it like this then i'm sure we wouldn't have had half of the exceptional headliners we've had over the years. the Stones only apparently signed on the dotted line the day before the announcement. Prince (if we're just assuming that it is him they were after) just seems to like to lead them on a long time only to say no last minute. and, to be far, if it is Blur who they've got as a replacement, that really isn't a bad result, is it? it ain't Prince, but it ain't Basement Jaxx or Gorillaz either

True, but you'd like to believe there was a strong indication that the artist in question is likely to sign. The Stones may have only signed late - but everybody seemed to be sure they were going to play and it was just a matter of time before it was officially confirmed.

You'd like to think that a gentleman's agreement was made with the act, and if they then back out this late in the day then it's a pretty shitty move on their part.

I just don't like the thought that Glastonbury needs to 'beg' to an artist to get them to play.

Glastonbury pays significantly less than other festivals - a lot of the time, bands headlining are doing the festival quite a favour (in return, i guess, for the BBC coverage and the prestige of playing the festival). i suppose an act like Prince just doesn't get that, and i'm sure Glastonbury will do everything they can to try and sway such acts until it becomes totally apparent that a deal can't be made. thankfully for Glastonbury it has people like Albarn (we assume this time round) ready to step up

If we were talking whether they'd be booked initially then yeah sure but I think Glasto would be foolish to turn their nose up at them based on that if they needed an urgent replacement for someone.

Oh yeah, they'd be crazy to let such a great opportunity pass them by...

I think I just find it hard to believe that an act finds it so difficult to play a one-off gig for a reduced fee. Especially since all the headliners are usually touring at the time of playing. Let's be honest, whatever Glastonbury pays they aren't going to be out of pocket are they!

Surely everybody is aware of the history and heritage of the festival, and as you say the coverage and expose a headline slot gives will more than make up for the reduced fee.

who knows what goes through Prince's head (or even if he was ever in the running to begin with)!? he clearly has some former irks with the festival that are always going to prove a sore point when it comes down to it. hopefully this will be the last time they try for him (at least for some time). it would've been incredible, but it's silly to pursue him any further. guess he's just one living legend that they won't be able to tick off

I'd rather give a lap dance in a club sober than have Take That headlining the festival. It'd be the worst most underwhelming headliner of all time. I'd rather have Mumford.

I can't even believe them waste of sperms are seriously being talked about.

I wonder if the fact Roskilde and Coachella have bagged Prince makes Glastonbury more eager to bag him? Idk stupid comment but the fact other festivals HAVE done it, it must make it possible somehow!

those festivals will've no doubt thrown insane amounts of money at him - money that Glastonbury just doesn't have

You are aware that glastonbury pays significantly less than the going rate?

I think they must find it easier to get the UK acts as theyre more likely to understand the benefits of doing it than a US act. Who must have to have it more talked into them over time.

I am - and as I said, I find it hard to believe that artists can't play a one off Glastonbury gig for a reduced fee. If it's down to money with Prince (as I assume it must be) then they will never be able to pay him what he wants. In that case - thank you and move on.

    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
    • Did you camp or go for a hotel? I looked into it briefly and seems easy enough to get back to Nuremberg.
    • Been last time in 2018 when the festival was happening in parque Bela vista. ls the new location good for such a big festival? What's the temperature in the evening near Tejo? Should we bring a raincoat or a jacket?
