I'm going to go with it's a diversionary tactic, after this afternoons discussion I have convinced myself it is going to be Floyd. In set up for a massive fall.

It's sort of beyond hope though isn't it? A bit like Led Zep, it's one of those things that is theoretically possible but is realistically in the realm of pipe dreams.

One last get together on the Pyramid would be fantastic, but I just can't see it.

Have we totally ruled out the possibility of it being an act who hasn't announced any shows yet .. But plans to announce some between now and 1st June?

Somebody like Rihanna for example?

The problem with that is they'd be leaving it quite late to announce their own shows, assuming that those shows would be this summer as I don't see why they'd hold back an announcement for someone with gigs later in the year.

They're leaving it a bit tight to sellout tickets to shows by 1st June though. Unless they're confident of them being a hot seller....in which case see my post above ^

But Blur for example .. Their Hyde Park gig has been on sale for what, 4/5 months is it?

What would be the proportion of the 180,000 who are going Glastonbury who:

a ) want to go to a Blur gig

b ) want to go but haven't yet purchased a ticket

c ) won't go to see Blur if they see them at Glastonbury

You're talking a very very low number of people who would fall into this category.

Let's be honest, the Hyde Park show is fairly expensive and I'm sure people are saving for other things, rather than for a show that was announced months ago.

There's IOW as well though. It's possible that if Glastonbury have booked them late on as we suspect that at least one of IOW and BST have said they can only be announced in June to limit the effect on ticket sales for each.

Because if they get announced for Glastonbury there's a load of folks who will see them there, and then not buy tickets to later shows. If you hold back the Glastonbury announcement some of those folks will buy a ticket for the later shows, as they have no clear knowledge they will see them at G.

Last time he talked about the festival was in February where he said he "probably was not" going to be there.

He's free on the sunday - and it's not like he's going to be doing 4 nights on the trot or something.

Fact that they've turned to someone relatively late doesn't make me think this final headliner is a massive one, I think we're getting our hopes a little too high.

In consideration of all of these factors, How come Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds aren't complete front runners? I know they aren't massively popular on this forum but to me they have to be the most likely candidate of all!

They've never had to do that before though, have they? It would make more sense to just announce it after Glastonbury like other acts do. While some people who went to Glastonbury might not see them again there's others watching on tv who might decide to go.

Latitude headliners usually aren't in the running to headline Glastonbury. One of their headliners has already been announced for Glastonbury and when it looked like they were subbing you were pretty critical of that.

Noel is a pretty big latitude headliner though, a much bigger booking ticket sale wise than Portishead or Alt-J. The fact Noel is heading TITP and Calling just makes him appear as a very strong booking for latitude.

Well he only spoke about Glastonbury because people were asking him about Glastonbury. He stopped speaking about it when people stopped asking after he said it didn't look like he was playing. Him being kept under wraps for the sub slot seems like it could definitely happen with some of his own shows to sell but not for the headline slot. Why wouldn't they have just given it to Florence?

...what? Almost everyone is predicting Noel as one of the two acts. Going by the posts on here he is the frontrunner. I think he'd be the sub, but still, everyone's already predicting him for the exact reasons you have listed...

Why wouldn't they have just given it to Florence?

In later consideration of this, is it mad to suggest that Florence may not have wanted headline spots at festivals this year? Considering she's only doing one... if a headline spot was what she was after she could of always turned to reading/Titp/V is it looked like Glastonbury wouldn't give her one.
