I don't think it is possible for them to fly all the way from Russia and play one more show in one day..

Only a 4 hour flight I think and the time diffrence works out the righ way if that makes sense so is possible. Would they want to do it is the question and I very much doubt it.

With The Libertines looking likely to have a new album out later this year, maybe they've decided that the large publicity they would get would outweigh the 'small' fee that Glastonbury would pay?

I can't think of anything else that would generate that level

of hype, exposure and publicity than a closing set headlining the biggest festival in the world.

I don't think I can cope with this thread any more it's done for me. We just need someone to throw in a sensible name to prompt some fresh discussion.

Ok maybe not an Oasis announcement as headliner, but if Noel is subbing is it really against the realms of possibility that Liam will show up for a few songs and make the reunion announcement?

The idea of Liam turning up and acting like the bloody Messiah makes me shudder.

I really don't see th libertines as a headliner. I know they are headlining other festivals but to me they have not done anything to warrant the step up.

agreed, they're a fairly niche/cult band, don't think they have anywhere near the cross-over appeal or "legendary" status that Glastonbury headliners generally have. would be a very weak headliner IMO.

True, it would be underwhelming to say the least.

They don't warrant that slot, not even close

If the likes of Mumfords and Travis have headlined in the past, then by that logic, The Libertines definitely deserve it.

I'm sure they would have had a shot at it in their heyday if it hadn't gone all tits up like it did between Carl and Pete.

not really, as Mumfords and Travis have plenty of mainstream well-known songs with the "3 albums a year" crowd.

The Libertines don't.

I'd love to see The Libertines at Glastonbury, but even as a massive fan I don't feel they would warrant the headline slot.

Due to TITP and Reading etc giving them headline slots for apparently large fees I can't see them subbing either.

Perhaps the opening set on Friday for some coverage?

If it was daft punk(which would be great) I doubt anyone would be at the chems so its kind of unlikely no?

On a side note I'm sitting here listening to la roux and every tune is so catchy, I hope shes on an early outside slot for some daytime dancing

I'd see Chems any day over DP personally.

Did they even play at their peak?

The highest they ever played was 5th down, in 2003. They were booked for 3rd down in 2004 just before they broke up. Don't understand how their reunion has made that band so much bigger, especially with no new material in over 10 years.

Higher demand when something is taken away

P.S. I don't think they are 'big' enough to headline but far more worthy than Noel who is being discussed as potential headliner

I don't follow, at all. Mumford headlined on the Babel tour because that album sold 3m copies worldwide, sold out arenas worldwide and won the Grammy for album of the year. When The Libertines have achieved anything close to that the comparison might be valid.

The Libertines are headlining festivals all over Europe so moaning about where they played before they broke up is irrelevant really.

Although, I think headlining the other stage stage wouldn't be beyond them although we know all our headliners now.

Do we? Who are they?

    • I think their best chance is to get at Brazil. I though Casemiro in particular but the entire Brazil midfield was awful for the first half of that game, and if McTominay and McGinn press and run past them they've got every chance of getting the lead. You kinda assume Vini Jr and Raphinha will do something at some point in any game, but Brazil look like they're waiting for their stars to make something happen, instead of having a team plan.   I stand by my claim before the tourney that Morocco put 3 past Scotland, which suggests to me they need to nick a draw against Brazil.
    • The dance and pop acts seem to be going down more than the rest lol. Download has turned into 90s fest of the Midlands haha, but it's all silly music no one actually likes lol.
    • It was never going to be great was it, there is comments of Mickey Mouse all over socials lol which is very similar to Glastonbury.  Someone I know from RIP watched Welcome to the Jungle and left and they went saying they've got to see GNR. It was the only day not to see out as well.
    • I decided to goto bed early for the Aussie game rather than stay up for Scotland. I don't regret my decision, I also love the complete over reaction during the world cup when a player has 1 good game, that Watford winger is now everyones dream signing. Its also funny when clubs get into the hype and end up overpaying for someone who then does nothing in the prem.
