Well he only spoke about Glastonbury because people were asking him about Glastonbury. He stopped speaking about it when people stopped asking after he said it didn't look like he was playing. Him being kept under wraps for the sub slot seems like it could definitely happen with some of his own shows to sell but not for the headline slot. Why wouldn't they have just given it to Florence?

To be fair Neil said something about acts being nailed down for certain days, so if, for example, they had Flo subbing Friday and Noel subbing Sunday lined up, and the Sunday headliner pulls out, the headline slot would go to Noel rather than Flo, even if they think Flo is more suitable for the slot.

I think that's what Neil said.

Daft punk, elusive enough to keep it hush hush, could be classed as a band. Pharrell is there to do get lucky.

Taylor swift supporting doing cut down set of her tour to experience this great festival all her friends play and bang on about.

And Kanye for 'Stronger'

They've never had to do that before though, have they? It would make more sense to just announce it after Glastonbury like other acts do. While some people who went to Glastonbury might not see them again there's others watching on tv who might decide to go.

That's a good point re selling tickets to the TV audience.....so why is keeping it from the Glastonbury go-ers so important? Surely the promoters aren't analysing the relative demographics of Glastonbury ticket holders against TV audience and deciding there's more to be lost by Glastonbury attendees not going than there is to be gained from the TV audience buying tickets?

This all hurts my head now.

In later consideration of this, is it mad to suggest that Florence may not have wanted headline spots at festivals this year? Considering she's only doing one... if a headline spot was what she was after she could of always turned to reading/Titp/V is it looked like Glastonbury wouldn't give her one.

This doesn't make any sense in response to dental's point. Fair enough if she turned down headline slots at V/T/R&L in favour of subbing Glastonbury, but she isn't going to turn down headlining Glastonbury in favour of subbing it.

What has that got to do with your mother asking for heroin?

(I never specified what 'it' was, nor did I say she was asking me for it. You jumped the gun, but your reply has lead me to believe that maybe your mother is a 'sex worker'... Each to their own)

Ps, did your mother win the Eurovision Song Contest last year?

Good banter tbh, tho I don't imagine my ma gets much action from my arse of a stepfather so..

What I mean is she may not be out to headline festivals this year, Glasto bookers may of been aware of that and maybe not even offered her the headline spot.

& Yeah I can see that being the case for why Noel might of got it instead of her.

Plus Noel is already headlining a major UK festival showing he would be big enough, Flo isn't therefore it's harder to decide..

what's the high flying birds:oasis ratio when noel plays live?

anything other than 60/40 oasis would put me to kip.

He's been doing 5 Oasis songs each night on this tour. Wouldn't expect more than 6/7 if he was to headline Glastonbury, it would probably just be the same set he's doing just now.

So this particular nugget doesn't rule out Swift after all then, interesting.

I know I sound like a stuck record but to recap Michael stated last year he would love to get two acts:

An Oasis reunion as Liam had left Beady Eye

Taylor Swift as Dolly Parton had gone down do well. This appeared in The Independent.

Whatever you or Ed Sheeran thinks, this is what he said so to me it is inconceivable that she hasn't at least been approached to play. Of course, since then she has released the biggest selling album in the world in a style completely removed from country hence making her even more appealing. Is Michael sitting on both these dream acts?

Quick question off topic. I see Bob Dylan is touring. Being a fan and never having seen him live is it worth the money/3 hour drive/late week night. Or is he just shit now

Haven't seen him for a few years now, he's mainly one to go see just to tick off the list. His live versions are nothing like the album ones, some you won't even recognise! He's far from shit though. I'd say if you've never seen him then definitely do!

T placings are not really that relevant to English festivals though. I imagine they went for him because the line was headline or nothing and they'd rather have him there than not, whereas the like of V and IOW didn't because they thought their fest would be fine without.

Will raises what might be a good point about acts being lined up to replace the headliner by day but I still think there would be many a better option than getting Noel in as backup and also I would think there's not a sufficient amount to prevent Noel from being announced when you look at it. He's not an exclusive anywhere and as for his festivals; Latitude - Glasto's already announced one of their headliners, Calling - headliners often get announced with London shows the following week, Summer in the City - sold out, TITP - irrelevant to Glastonbury.

Skip posts you don't like, don't tell folk off just cos they're super excited it could be a band you don't like

I detest oasis and all the Gallagher crap, if I got mardy at all the hope on here I'd have an aneurysm

We should remember that no one from The Libertines actually ruled themselves out, the closest we got was don't think or not sure. Likewise with Noel, don't thinks. Haven't been asked it the biggest bull line out there.

I think The Libertines are more likely to headline than Noel, although I don't think either of them are likely to play

I think I would go out on a limb and say it's not going to be Noel headlining for sure, would it be the weakest glastonbury headliner of the last 10 years? Maybe even ever? I'm not sure

I just don't know why they would have booked Noel Gal to headline even out of desperation, Calling, Latitude, TITP AND headlining G, has anyone ever done that many headline slots?

I doubt it highly

I still think it could be someone we haven't particularly thought about or considered, it might not be too ridiculous to think the shows that are stopping an act being announced, haven't been announced themselves yet, I know it's leaving it late, but it could be a massive name and not a particularly massive show, they certainly aren't making it easy for is are they :sarcastic:

Edit: thanks Will

OMG I'm starting to believe it is actually Daft Punk again, so many of their friends there, been about a bit recently with tidal nonsense. Could do with some big promotion as last album didn't do as well as expected. It's deffo them, i'm off to ladbrokes......

Noel isn't at IOW, but yes it'd be the weakest headliner. A Latitude header headlining Glasto, I doubt it. T were out of options.
