Yes, but its not without punishment - for getting the slot wrong - Everton have been deducted 10 points - its the only fair way to resolve

Apologies for any confusion, wasn't stating that I think Neil would have crowds as big as Macca or Elton. More that as a live act he's aged more gracefully, particularly in the case of the latter

Nothing wrong with that. I only watched one act at the Pyramid this year (Little Simz), and one on the Other (Disclosure), but didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not hanging around those stages.

Anyone able to provide reassurance that some of these 6 main headliners are wrong? Think they're all probably good bookings outside of Loyle but just don't do anything for me sadly! If they are correct, it'll be a nice chance for me to explore other stages headliner slots, but just curiously excited atm!

theres always a bit of a chance something changes , as it has over the last month or so with some being ruled out / in .... this year seems the most changeable in the years ive been on here .... but might be that its now the correct ones ... can never be 100% sure as sometimes things change last minute

That is definitely how I felt.  NY was miles better than Springsteen but then Blur was one of my favourite Pyramid headliners ever.

 

Most other years I think NY would have been the standout Pyramid headliner.

The hilarious thing about Neil Young is that 15 years ago people were saying the exact same thing as if it was some badge of honour - "I couldn't name a single Neil Young song if I tried!"

 

His popularity hasn't increased in this time, he hasn't had any hits, but nor has it waned. He didn't really help himself by leaving Spotify for a few years, and you'll rarely hear his music in any films or on TV, but that's why he is so legendary - he has remained true to his muse and his art. I would argue he was once the perfect Glastonbury act, but the festival has changed a lot in the past 15 years.

 

In my opinion he's not far off The Cure in terms of status - a few well-known songs, but ultimately an enormous following of dedicated and committed fans.

 

Take this with a pinch of salt, but it's my belief (through various friends who really aren't trustworthy!) that the Eavis's were after Neil Young & Crazy Horse for many years.

 

If he is indeed booked for 2025, my guess would be that CH were booked, but due to illness within the camp, Neil has had to come up with an alternative backing band quickly, hence the emergence of the Chrome Hearts. Promise of the Real are on an extended hiatus, which is a shame as although Chrome Hearts are fantastic (and essentially POTR anyway), I think POTR would have been the perfect choice nowadays.

 

For any doubters, no, you probably won't know many songs, but there was a time that wasn't the point. If you want to listen only to songs you know, in the order that you've already seen on setlist.fm, you can easily stay at home and listen to Spotify.

2009 was my first Glastonbury and Neil my first headliner. People may not have known his songs, but when he played "Rocking in the Free World" he had that crowd in his hand.
I got my ticket to see Bruce not understanding Glastonbury at the time. He was only OK, one of his weaker gigs and I've seen him a few times. Blur were of course amazing.

If Neil plays again I'll be back, shifts permitting. Have to support my countryman 🙂

It was my first one too, I missed Neil Young for Doves but thought that song sounded amazing on the tv. I've never really delved further into his music to be honest. I will do if he gets confirmed though. 

 

Agree on Bruce, and Blur was that "Glastonbury moment" that hooked me into going every time I get the chance

I really want it to be Young. I was torn between watching him, Doves, QTip or Ray Davies on the Friday in 2009 and instead I saw a secret 5th choice-getting far too twatted. I saw the Youngster open with Into the Black and remember almost nothing else.

Anyway if it is him I’m there, though I agree with those that say if it’s Charlie XCX on the Other she’ll have a much bigger crowd.

What I really loved about Neil Young's set in 2009, watching on TV, was the extent to which he was leading the band on a somewhat unplanned journey. Of course they had their setlist, but songs would clearly flex and bend according to NY's mood. Rockin' in the Free World was the most obvious example: it featured several false endings, and at the end of each one it was all eyes on the boss to see if he wanted another reprise. To me this is the essence of live music - that the band should not just be playing but creating, reacting to each other and the audience - but it's really rare these days to actually find it, particularly on the main stage of a big festival, and thrilling when you do.

 

I've loved Neil Young since I first discovered him about 25 years ago. I've seen him once, in Hammersmith in 2008, but for reasons unknown I really don't have strong memories of it. I'd say I'm ready for a refresher. But for all that I'd expect Charli XCX to have a significantly bigger crowd if they end up playing at the same time.

That’s so true, yet there’s very few big acts who dare do improvisation, I can only think of Dylan - to variable success - or Springsteen. Most stick to the safety of a well rehearsed setlist
