So The Strokes are definitely out as headliners I assume with APE confirmation?

?

Nothing about them being an exclusive (I don’t think?) but it would be odd for them to headline both due to the size different of each festivals general headliners.

That’s what I’m thinking.

Too big to sub and I don’t see them headlining other stage (I guess Killers were the exception recently for smaller stage headliner)

I don’t think that rules them out. APE is a one off gig in reality plus Glastonbury aren’t going to not pick someone because of their placement somewhere else. Beyoncé headlines in 2011 but subbed T in the Park.

TITP’s lineup that year was ludicrously strong and they had many headliner sized/big acts playing in lower slots (The Strokes amongst them). Beyoncé was still a major headliner act by all accounts. The Strokes in 2019, not so much. But it’d be silly to totally rule them out as if the McCartney pulling out news is true then Glastonbury clearly had to go somewhere. I just don’t see it being to The Strokes, myself, unless they were REALLY out of options.

I don’t see it being The Strokes but I’m just saying the idea that their slot at another festival rules them out of contention isn’t really true. Especially as they seemingly aren’t down as an exclusive. I think people are premature with their joy/misery

I’m more of the thought that if The Strokes are at Glastonbury then it’s as a strong lower act rather than headliner, but that seems just as unlikely as them headlining to me so am more inclined to think they wont be there at all. APE didn’t list a lot of their exclusive headliners as exclusives last year so it may not mean anything.

Yeah I’m very much of the opinion this APE lineup announcement means nothing in relation to Glastonbury

I'm happy eitherway cause I'l get tickets for the ape show with friends that aren't going glasto, cause people I'm going glasto with aren't a fan of any of those acts that day really so even if they did get announced for glasto the ape show would still be worth it

So APE is 40k capacity and 6 stages. Seems a bit of a stretch that a band that would headline that would headline Glastonbury as well.

Let alone the Saturday night main highlight attraction.

Strokes are Croaks.

It does but it is basically a gig isn’t it? It’s not a camping festival and lots of bands do gigs in smaller venues than 40k and headline. If it’s a strong booking for them and a replacement headliner (or they appear not as headliner) for Glastonbury it’s not out the question.

Why, though?

If you start judging acts that way, they'd run out of options for the Pyramid headliner within about 5 years given that the next biggest festival in the country is approximately half the size of Glastonbury, and only a handful are more than a third the size..

Is there a contingency cheque book scenario where the festival ups the offer to a desired act if they've been left in the lurch by someone else?  Can they double their offer to say, Madonna, if Macca bails? Or offer to make a sizable donation to her Malawi charity?

For some reason this post has got me envisioning Michael and Emily wheeling and dealing like Harry Redknapp on transfer deadline day

Not really. There are festivals that are much smaller than Glastonbury paying a lot more for their headliners. There isn’t a festival in the UK where each headliner is unequivocally a Glastonbury headliner anyway. It’s not as cut and dried as people want it to be - look at The Killers and Mumford and Sons doing Latitude or Florence & The Machine doing Boardmasters.

If anything the fact that The Strokes are going US-UK-US over the course of 2 weeks means the two week gap between Glastonbury and their first announced European date is inconsequential as they're clearly willing to travel over here for a one off gig.
