  5. I think there are a lot of posters on here who love Pulp (including me) but haven't quite come to terms with how indifferent non fans are to them most of who view them as one hit wonders. Quick sales check on wikipedia says that Pulp lag behind even Stereophonics in sales and (like streaming numbers) again a blunt metric but there is no way Stereophonics can headline the Pyramid Stage.

  6. This makes little sense. The Lana Day performing well was foreseeable. They did not have to "shift capacity" to Friday by cutting down weekend passes, they closed the sales on friday early to encourage people to buy them quickly and also sell some Weekend passes to those that came too late and then reopened them a while later which creates even more incentive in people who "missed out". Its a common sales strategy nowadays and PS has employed it before. Its basically done with every bigger act now, splitting tickets into tranches over different time slots or through a bazillion different pre-sales. Creates a contant impression of shortage of tickets so people are bullied into buying. Also, you simply would not need to "shift capacity, modern booking systems will optimize that by themselves using projected sales, if one of your days heavily outsold the weekend passes. This rests on a false logic. New Order (or any other late addition) were never booked as a reaction to sales-performance, but the contracts had been closed way before the line-up announcement, as with all other bigger acts (these are sometimes done 2-3 years in advance!). It was simply held back for marketing reasons on the bands side. Late additions also hardly ever boost sales, the majority of tickets to be sold has already been sold by this time (with the exception of some day tickets) and many people typically will have made other plans already. Also the cost of spontaneously visiting a fest (unless you're a local) is much more expensive than booking stuff in November. Festivals thus avoid big bands they can only announce late because of the bad cost/benefit ratio. In the case of PS however, adding a band like New Order fortifies their status as a unique fest and pleases the audience that already bought tickets. Thats why significant late additions are the exception, not the rule. Overall it has to be sad that its impressive that PS was able to sell out anything, giving how horrible the state of the industry is.

  7. Muse at the same venue last year was £95. So yeah, as far as pricing goes, it's really impressive to see someone just go all in and try to do it their way instead.

  9. Update on my journey discovering The National : After enjoying Boxer, I've now been looping over High Violet. I prefer Boxer, but High Violet is still rather nice. I thought England was my favourite track, but that may be changing with more listens.

  10. Ever stopped to think why they were not there? Listen to female artists when they talk about how they are treated. This is still happening in 2024. You can't just pretend that in the whole of the UK women just didn't want to make bands or didn't make them. Times haven't "changed". What has changed is our awareness of the historical mistreatment that UK female acts have endured and still endure. Listen to UK female acts talking about this. There is plenty of content on the internet about this. You talk about "merit" but what is merit worth on its own when you have the industry mistreating female artists just for being female? You simply can't expect equal outcomes when half of the artists are being targeted just for being women. Glasto are trying to do their bit in balancing this by giving more opportunities to voices that have been underrepresented. You seem to be under the impression that both male and female acts have always walked down the same path in the industry world, faced similar issues and had similar opportunities. That is not correct. Please, listen to female acts talking about this, we can all help if we listen. An open mind is all it takes

  13. As I told you last week they were waiting for a medium/big artist for Sunday and now they have the green light to announce it. Friday and Saturday names are most of them small, do not expect too much. Selling out Sunday daytickets has been the logical plan in PKP Headquarters in the last weeks. See you tomorrow 11am

  14. Just if anyone is reading this, the charity commission investigate serious complaints of harm and illegal activity about a charity. Being spoken to in a sh*tty way and told to sign in to your shift in a field you can't get to are really unlikely to meet that threshold. Glad they apologised and I'd agree with what other people have said that sometimes you need some self advocacy to ensure your needs are met. Everyone is a volunteer with different abilities.

  17. There is still a lovely gap for Danny Brown on the 30th or 31st May en route to a show in Lisbon on the 1st June. No Spanish dates on his tour would seem pretty odd, when the lesser musical hotspots of Vienna and Zurich get shows. Fingers crossed it is the Friday!

  19. I hope the Avalon have another class act from way back when, I’ve really enjoyed the likes of PP Arnold, The Zombies & Lulu there. Suzi Quatro would be fun! Also, the folkie Sam Lee is playing Glastonbury so I’d imagine the Avalon or the Acoustic for him.

  27. We have a similar idea - on Notes on my iPhone and it’s Definitely, Definitely Maybe, Maybe and No. Keep adding to it as we listen to new stuff and as more stages drop. Helps figure out what’s unmissable and what we want to see when the timings come through. Well I say we but it’s mainly me. Husband occasionally has a different view but luckily mostly goes along with it …. 🤣

  34. You’re right about a significant mark up for their own shows. There’s been at least a dozen times this year where I’ve gone to buy a ticket for a band and have been priced out. Some shows are extortionately expensive, but I’m finding a lot of these shows don’t even sell out. It’s like they would rather rip off half the crowd but not sell out. Very odd. What used to be £30-40 for an arena show 3 or 4 years ago, maybe £80 for a big act is well over £100, which should in theory swing the pendulum back in the festivals favour in terms of value for money but the quality of these lineups is dire. when the stones last played stadiums they were charging £110 for old Trafford, and I thought that was pricey but worth it as the stones are notoriously expensive. Now that’s the norm, some acts crossing £180 for a non-gold circle ticket. It’s mad

  36. The fact that they didn't in 2011 and they won't have in the last two Glastonburys since reforming again probably answers the question. Hell of a Pyramid sub, though. Would love to see them grace that stage again. Next year or bust.

  37. His album is great and really looking forward to catching his set. I feel like it will be a bit early for him to be honest but quite happy he won't clash with some of the acts on later on so on balance it works for me. I hope the park isn't too packed so can have a little dance.

  44. The obsession with Slowdive playing this festival is absolutely bizarre. They've done some pretty wide reaching tours in the US/UK/Europe recently, plenty of opportunities to see them, will be better than on an outdoor stage at a festival too.

  45. Hi everyone, I used to use e-festivals in my festival attending prime, used to double Leeds and Download every year in the 2000s. Switched to Glasto as I became older, wiser and more able to fund it all. Spending my days now refreshing the rumours list to inject some soul into my soulless job. Exciting to join a forum again, reminds me of my youth. See you all on site!

  46. Good news! My wife Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer last October. She has had operations and they have removed the lump and lymph nodes. She starts chemotherapy tomorrow and after discussion with her consultant they have planned her treatment and have confirmed she’ll be able to attend this year. After diagnosis and procuring tickets we have been worried about all sorts as you can imagine and she really was clinging onto being able to go it’s great news for her. Obviously in the great scheme of things going to Glastonbury is a minor thing but it’s lifted her massively. She is resisting my wig suggestions though.
