  1. Not even sure where to start from.. so much things I want to say. It was my 8th Sziget and for the first time I am back home without having the famous “Sziget cough”. During last two days you could occasionally feel the dust, but it was clear they had put a lot of work into trying to keep it minimal. Arriving at the festival it was all very green. There was, again, loads of different solutions for ground moistening. What was new and really helped were trucks that drove around main streets pouring water on it. They helped against those annoying scooters pulling dust up. We’ve been coming early for years now with moving-in ticket. I just want to point out that I think paying 65€ just to come a day / two days earlier while there’s nothing else to do than get drunk is unreasonably expensive. I wonder what is Sziget’s approach to this? Do they WANT people to come or actually is this a counter-measure? Who knows.. As mentioned in earlier post we stumbled on the build-up of secret party, which was cool. It meant we were first to enter when it opened, got to enjoy it in empty glory without anybody knowing. And we got hats saying we were there! I had a little chat with guys running it. Turns out they are some Belgian dudes who just pitched it to Sziget years ago, this time they were invited back. They are just friends, DJs playing are themselves. Very fun guys! Of course at one point it got so popular that they asked Sziget if they could get security at the door. Not so secret anymore. I’d say generally food was great, like.. 7 places out of 10 delivered. It did feel like there was a lot of options, but still.. after 3-4 days you’re gonna struggle finding anything new and interesting. You don’t want to eat bread all day. Thanks kristofm for recommendations here, Smokey monkeys was just AMAZING. Pricing of food felt too high for Hungary. It was cheaper to eat at Glastonbury. You can feel that it really affected people and it is definitely going to drive some people away from the festival. I can’t see them forcing lower prices, but they have to figure something out. That 2500HUF deal did not work out as they wanted, these options were a joke. Now comes something I can’t believe I’m saying. They way they did toilets this year is probably the best I’ve seen at any festival ever. It was cleaned regularly, meaning you almost always got a cleanish toilet seat. There was paper. There were enough toilets for crowds. Urinals were amazing as they did not feel nasty due to a bit of privacy and there was a place to put your drink. Past years if something broke at the toilet complex, it usually was broken until the end. This year it was clear everything was being fixed as quick as possible. We stayed at Sziget Ville, there was not a single time I waited for showers or toilets. There was cleaning 24/7. Showers did miss basic necessities like a place to put your things to.. Sziget Ville was not crowded anymore due to regular tents not being allowed in. Perfect location, close to everything. We had a private DJ-area as well.. which literally nobody cared about. But i absolutely recommend it. Everybody seems to know about the bar with much cheaper prices now. We’ve been drinking there for years, but crowds have gone too big this year, not worth the wait in queue 😞 Did not wait more than few minutes at any other bar through-out the festival, even at main stage during headliners. Don’t know about Billie Eilish, but Billie Eyelash and rest of the Magic Mirror Queenz show girls were amazing. Magic Mirror once again managed to book an amazing program. , Magic Drag Brunch was great as well. Stand-up comedy was hit-and-miss but Ria Lina was one of the best stand-ups i’ve seen for years. Most of circus and theatre we saw was good. I love Traveling Funfair, I hope they never get rid of it! ArtZone is great entertainment during the day, there is actually so much casual stuff to do. I did not have any music to see at DropYard, but for the second year in a row, all star dance battle was the thing to witness. The sun killed me tho. I have to give shoutout to living statues as well, although I think last years were a bit more stunning. 🙂 And I still have not gotten to music yet. Everybody else discusses it anyway. 🙂 M83 was my top favorite. I had chills and girls with us were literally crying. Great stuff. They need to figure out something with Europe Stage, current way of booking is just not attractive enough for audiences. I do understand a need for mission-projects like this or Global Village, but there is something missing, not sure what it is. Anyway, I really think there are only two large-scale festivals in Europe that manage to put together such an in-depth program. Glastonbury and Sziget. Sziget is huge, but a great small alternative to Glastonbury. We do compare Sziget here to a lot of festivals regarding music line-ups, which I do agree with - they are not always competitive enough with regular arena-type festivals. But that’s the thing - Sziget is not a regular arena festival. It’s a completely different experience. I do feel like a lot of visitors are missing out cause they're not putting much effort into finding out what's going on. Sziget is for people who go for overall festival experience. And they nailed it this year.

  3. Finally, my wife and me sold our tickets in the exchage service and decided to organize a travel with our little daughter who had some medical issues last summer, and we thought that she deserved it, so instead of going to Pukkelpop we are going to Legoland in Germany... hehehe. I hope that 2024 will be our 10th Pukkelpop after going every year from 2009 to 2017. We are looking forward to it. I hope that all you you will have a great festival experience and I will wait for all of you in the 2024 thread.

  4. There's two VIP levels, Luno Garden and Luno Pit/View. The garden one just gives you access to a VIP bar, seating area and flushing loos. Can't remember that the prices were any cheaper, there was a nice cocktail bar doing things not from a can. The Luno Pit gets you into both the bar area and the front pit on the main stage. View last year was great and very convenient as it wasn't massively full, but its obviously only for the one stage and I don't think worth paying another £100 for. Last year I got a Luno Garden ticket on twickets for about £60, and I won Luno Pit for another day.

  7. The most important thing for me to mention is how great the festival looked like. It’s not only the lights and all the decorations (they were beautiful!) but also it was clean, it seemed like the organizers poured a good amount of money on that, there was soap available, toilet paper, great toilets. It’s important to have good toilets on a 6 day bender. People were okay, I’m a bit sorry that I wasn’t really active in meeting new friends and stuff but the agenda was quite packed, I already went with a group of friends (who are rather introverts) and stuff. I did talk to a few Dutch and Slovenian people and they were amazing. Everyone was brilliant. Most of the concerts were great too, Yungblud is still a crazy little creature. Probably the best gig I’ve attended this whole year. A huge high five for Call Me Karizma, he was my biggest surprise. Frank Carter was great too. Hugs to Girl in Red, she seemed super awkward but in an adorable way. I really liked her gig, but the atmosphere could’ve been better, the crowd didn’t seem to know her at all, that was annoying. It was great from her when she paused when fans were injured and she barely got an applause for that, that seemed a but unfair. Few people clapped and that was it, though it was a really cool moment from her. Baby Queen and Destroy Boys were also great, I’ve known them a bit but didn’t know what to expect, good gigs. The negative ones were probably… Well, at Amyl and the Sniffers I could barely hear the music, everything was super noisy, even the bass seemed “high”, that kinda ruined it for me, although based on what I’ve read it could be that I was just standing in the wrong place. Next time I’ll walk around in that tent so maybe I can find better spots for my ears. I also went to Viagra Boys but it was a bit boring for me for some reason so I left early. Foals were okay but I’m pretty much only into their first album and they played like one song from that one, but that’s, again, not about their quality, it’s about my taste only. Billie was okay, I’ve never seen her perform but somehow it was exactly what I expected. Wasn’t incredible but it was a good show, I had a fairly good time. But overall, as always, I had a very good time. Last year was a bit scary with all the decorations removed and with constant dust in my face, this year the island looked beautiful, had a great atmosphere, it’s very easy to fall in love with this festival again and again. Let’s just forget about last year. The only thing I could wish for is a little bit better line up, but again, that’s not about the quality, it’s just that sometimes I couldn’t really find indie/rock/punk music (especially in the Guetta day). I think Hungarian additions to the bigger stages is a wise move from the organizers, I think we’ll see more Hungarians in key positions next year, maybe one Hungarian performer each day at the main stage. It’s a lot cheaper than getting someone from Britain or the USA, while the crowd was about as big. Especially if you’ve got a big headliner, at least one Hungarian will get a spot (like Carson Coma + Imagine Dragons or Dzsúdló + Billie Eilish). I think there's a good chance of Azahriah as a subheadliner playing ahead of a big USA/UK pop headliner (that's based on just rumours I've heard, nothing more). Buying my full festival ticket tomorrow for next year, that’s the biggest complement I can give, and the best way to say thank you for this week. (Also because tomorrow there’s a huge discount haha)

  9. I'm done for now. Maybe in the future I might look at going and camping in LoveFields but: 1) really physically struggling to lug stuff from the car to the campsite these days. Part age, part fitness. 2) loss of Rivermead/Pylon makes the walk worse, and as we arrive late Wednesday afternoon, it's a pain no longer having a field that's certain to be quiet and still have space. For years we've camped at the back of Rivermead and could all arrive throughout Wednesday/Thursday and be sure we could get a spot near each other. 3) the site is busier. It works when the weather is nice but I generally can't see it working in a muddy year, with everyone trying to keep to the paths. The paths+the grass either side are now often as busy as the paths used to be in the muddy years. I do think the festival is in for a major shocker when they get the first rainy year as they've just not had one to stress test them since the numbers went up loads. The old behaviour of people just staying in their tents at the campsites when it's raining that used to be relied upon is just not happening any more. So much of the camping is so far out... it's not like when half the site camping was over the Pyramid or Other stage so you could walk 10 minutes, go watch an act, and then go dry off in the tent when it starts raining. People camped in South Park, Lime Kiln, Darble are not wondering back to the tent then out again multiple times a day. You'd head there and it'd have stopped raining again by the time you're back. How busy the site is now on a Wednesday shows just how dedicated people are to having as much fun as possible for their money... which brings me to... 4) the price. It's not too expensive. But I think it *is* too expensive if you're not that interested in any of the headliners or most of the Pyramid/Other programming. Used to be "there's so much do, you don't even need to go to the main stages" - which is still true but there are cheaper ways to get your folk/comedy/circus fix. Speaking of... 5) age/fitness again - I can no longer sit on the floor for three hours chilling in the circus or cabaret tent. An hour or so and my back is screaming at me. 6) my musical tastes haven't changed much. But the festival has changed around me. I don't begrudge it that, it's the one moving with the times, while I'm staying still. But outside of the booking policy for the main stages, the rest has stagnated. Glastonbury used to keep physically growing every few years. More stages, more stuff, space for interesting and innovative new ideas and people to give us innovative new stuff. It's how we got Arcadia, Shangri-La, HMS Charity, the Greenpeace installations. But now there's no space any more. But there's also no willingness to let the old things go. Arcadia was going to go and get replaced by a new thing... by the Arcadia team. The Pier is a nice idea, but it's Joe Rush again. Carhenge was a throwback to the old days of the festival, and was also Joe Rush again. Rimski's Yard is great, love it as an addition, but it's run by the same groups with the same acts that are on at the rest of the T&C field. The Atchin Tan at the top of the T&C field... I don't have anything against the cause of Travellers and it's a neat idea but that's some prime real estate to give to over to something people were really uninterested in. And it's the political equivalent of booking 90s Britpop on the Pyramid all day. If we're going to have an area for a political statement to be made, maybe we could give it to some young people? Leftfield have done a good job at keeping up with the issues that affect the younger generation but certainly much of the rest of the place hasn't. Green Futures feels so very, very dated. Similarly the way people engage with stand-up comedy these days: most people go to the theatre and watch hour-long shows by acts they really like. Few people go to comedy clubs and watch a bunch of acts do 10-20 minutes. But the latter is still the format for the Cabaret tent. Maybe more acts doing actual full shows that people could make a point of wanting to go and see, rather it just being somewhere for people to drop in or out of. All of this you can argue either way, that you'd prefer it one way or the other. But to me it's about moving forward rather than standing still. I would rather the music booking policy was what it was in the early 2000s and they booked more of the bands I liked. But it moved on. I can accept that. But the rest of the site has not moved on in the same way. I've been going for 20 years and the Astrolabe still has acts that have played there every year since I first went. And I've read a bunch of Marcus du Sautoy's books and think he is great but does he really need to be doing three shows every festival? (And yeah, it's because he probably does it for the price of a couple of tickets and there's no budget put in elsewhere - I'm not blaming the bookers at these fields - modern cutting edge circus/comedy/theatre acts would cost more. But Elton/GnR/Arctics cost more than Muse/Coldplay/Pulp but we're not using that as an excuse either...) Got a bit ranty there, but yeah, I don't mean to attack the festival or anything, it is what it is and they make the choices to put the money where it benefits them the most, but it does mean it's moved away from my tastes consistently over the past 13 years. Ironically by moving where my tastes are standing still and standing still where my tastes are moving on.

  13. What he actually said was some statement about how there should be no borders and how we're all brothers and sisters, not specifically just Russians and Georgians. His intentions were good but in a lot of parts of the world outside of the west, such a lovey dovey statement. I do think this business of hating on all Russians because of Putin is very xenophobic though, yet it seems to be encouraged in some quarters. Russia is a great country, rich in history and culture, but unfortunately currently in the hands of a warmonger.

I've actually not been on it yet so personally I hope to .... but each year there are plenty of first timers , we often get complaints about things that aren't stages on here , but horses for courses in my opinion not everything needs to be in the same style , maybe id not be excited no but I love the creative aspects and love to see them

  17. Simon Felice and band in the original tipi was one of the best gigs I've ever seen at EOTR. You could get so close to the musical talent. I knew nothing about him and was a few sheets to the wind, so those diagonal wooden beams came in very handy for support.

Red was the route in and yellow the route out after, sorry this is just the Acton Town route, however follow the crowd and there are signs too Be warned in the arena the beers were all just Brewdog cans, recommend having a drink or 2 en route from Acton Town to the park (Sainsburys Local by Acton Town)

As usual another haphazard exercise by Seetickets.....I'm sure there'll be some folks who miss out on ticket day because of this in some manner. Perhaps it'll keep those who have advocated for a ticket 'lottery' happy at least.

  32. Yeah so they could be - I like you am in favour of tax rises that target the wealthy, regardless of inflation (particularly would like to see CGT changes). But yes, this is reducing spending power (by taking the money away altogether), so would push inflation down. Big political impacts as you say though, and tax changes typically have a bigger impact on markets than gradual rate rises, too. There's historical evidence of price controls not working to control inflation, and I think the logic surrounding it is pretty sound. If wages are rising (which they need to in an inflationary market), and you put price controls in place, people end up with more excess money (because their wage rise that they originally demanded to pay for more expensive necessities actually ends up getting spent on something else), and this will push inflation up. Unless you want to put wage controls in place as well, but I don't think anyone wants that. And yeah as I know you're aware, but worth clarifying, these would be governmental policies, so it is a bit of a different ball game. I'd absolutely support tax rises on the wealthy, but its not going to happen with this government. Luckily BoE is autonomous is being able to raise IRs.

  33. AXS is behind the festival, app, etc. so the same credentials are valid for both. The tickets can be transferred via the AXS app if not the APE one, and Twickets has a transfer option. So it would be absolutely fine to do.

  34. I try and avoid emotive, immediate post-festival comments like this but after further consideration, I'm even more resolute that 2023 was my last (whole) festival for the foreseeable future, for numerous reasons. As well as some personal milestones in 2024, I feel like I've wrung the place dry, no matter what changes they make or artists they get to play. As much as I enjoyed it this year, and as much as I crammed in, more than ever in retrospect I got the strange feeling that I really didn't see or do anywhere near as much as I hoped, and I was left with a weird feeling of unfulfillment amongst the euphoria. I've come to the conclusion that I've placed far too much importance on the festival and the build-up and even though I do try and keep a lid on it, especially in the weeks leading up to it, it's still far too consuming. The thing is, I don't know any other way to be, when I really enjoy something, I tend to obsess about it to the point where the anticipation is more exciting than the event itself. Also, I'm at the age and state of mind where I need almost everything to be perfect. Looking at the weather since (pretty much) the week after the festival, if we'd experienced anything like that at Glastonbury, it would have been a thoroughly miserable experience for me. Ten years ago, I would have been much better equipped mentally to deal with rain or mud, but not anymore. And after a very fortunate run of sunny weekends pretty much since 2016, it feels like another good reason to bow out gracefully. I'm lucky enough to be in the catchment area for Sunday tickets, so I'm going to try for that this year. My partner has mentally been in the place I am with the festival since 2019 and only does Sundays these days, so it'll be interesting to enjoy the place over a much reduced length of time. Sure, when the Wednesday comes around next year, it'll be pretty strange, probably a little difficult, but I feel like I can set my expectations quite low and go at the single day with a different perspective. Beyond that, who knows, but if my mindset remains the same into 2024, 2023 may very well turn out to be my last (whole) Glastonbury. And I'm cool with that.

  40. I'm not sure that the new system will even be in place. Sales were impacted last ticket day due to problems with Strong Customer Authentication. 3DS1 was terminated in October 2022 and it was glitchy with some banks, which led to payments failing and people not getting auth requests from their banks etc. It wouldn't surprise me if it's gone back to normal now the system works properly.

That said, I've got Green Man next month, which I think of as Glastonbury without the hassle (apart from getting tickets). GM may yet change my mind.
