Another one for the Kids

Hmm. Not strong by any means but not completely awful. Not sure where the budgets gone though; usually Governors Ball is stronger no?

I’d take Tyler, Jpegmafia, car seat headrest, lemon twigs, royel otis, Joey valence & brae.

Not checked their schedules but realistically could see Peggy and Lemon Twigs being booked maybe?

I’m shocked Hozier keeps getting these high billings (Reading & Leeds included). Remember watching him mid-afternoon in The John Peel Tent, I think just after Take Me To Church came out… not really aware of what he’s brought out since. Am I out of touch? No, it’s the kids that are wrong! 🤣

He had an absolutely enormous global hit last year.

Yeah I was wondering what he'd done to get a Reading/Leeds headliner but hadn't heard about his big hit.

I mean I'm out the loop with what's hot at present so it's not a surprise that caught me out.

What was wrong with Seasick Steve? I’m not a fan tbh, find him a bit boring, but it seemed to fit quite well: easy listening to start the day off. We happily sat through his set in the sun.

I’d agree with that. Seen him before and his set was really good. Nice bit of Americana on the pyramid.

oh ok, yeah that must’ve passed me by… what was it called?

spotify tells me it's called 'Too Sweet' but I've just listened and it's not familiar to me... and my office sadly plays R1 most of the time haha

Live Nation spends just enough because some of these acts are at Bonnaroo and will also play Lolla and Austin City Limits. The O Rod Day will sell out easily.  They literally cater to teenagers and thats it because NY is such a difficult festival market and this one has somehow survived all the b.s.

I'm pretty young and its come out of nowhere for me (i did delete tiktok though in like april or may last year). I was surprised by R&L and thought it was a mad booking and they f**ked off but both sides of the pond he is getting these bookings. Fair play i guess (crap though!)

Hozier's built up a huge fanbase in the last few years, he has 48 million monthly listeners on Spotify currently.

They're not just streaming the big hits either, he has 17 songs with at least 200 million streams.

I don't know if i agree with this.

Obviously not the best method but his album before this big one didn't do fantastic, nothing really charted since take me to church etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hozier_discography

3rd down woodsies at glasto in 2023 (underbilled maybe, but was it rammed? i don't remember hearing much).

Its a fair come up in the last year I would say personally He wasn't small but nowhere near this size outside of Ireland in 2022.

@wro_lap is right about rare trajectory. Few acts stay mid sized for a decade then shoot to such heights - its really uncommon!

2023 Woodsies was a secret set. Tent was full, but not dangerous Killers levels (it was immediately after Foo Fighters)

Ahh - the way i checked didn't highlight that aspect !

That was 2019 though, it was really during lockdown that the fanbase seemed to grow - lot of his old songs became TikTok hits.

Obviously he's not a stadium act, but he's got a huge young audience now. In the last two days even, he's had two songs blow up on the UK Spotify chart - with his cover of Arctic Monkeys' Do I Wanna Know charting at #16 today.

Yeah for sure it was 2019, but these mega slots weren't happening in 2023 when he first started touring again after covid.

The main growth has happened since summer 2023.

It's just bland manufactured pop with the same production as a dozen other US artists, like Imagine Dragons.  It feels like music made by committee.

He’s Irish isn’t he?

Personally would be happy to see him at Glastonbury, but different strokes for different folks 👍

Apart from Hozier is very talented and has nicely crafted songs and an incredible voice (and is Irish, btw) and Imagine Dragons are tripe.

    • That’s actually one of the clearest rundowns I’ve seen, cheers. The transport setup sounds way smoother than most festivals, and the short queues alone make it sound worth it. The barn capacity thing is good to know though, missed sets like that can be frustrating if you’re not prepared.
    • Really thought 2025 was going to be the year,  but alas we wait
